it's been called the best place to live in america join us as we take a deep dive into how the growth opportunity and culture of clarksville are paving the way for a promising future [Music] this is clarksville well clarksville has a wonderful unique story long hunters were hunting in this area long before the town was ever established one of those long hunters was named john montgomery and he is the namesake of montgomery county and when the american revolution broke out he enlisted under general george rogers clark we are named to clarksville because john montgomery served under general clark and loved him as a commander and named the city clarksville after his former commander clarksville montgomery county has a rich history and in the most recent years clarksville parks and recreation as well as the montgomery county government has really worked tirelessly with visit clarksville to make an experience for not only the people that are coming into town but for those that live here and want to experience and learn about the history that has made clarksville montgomery county a great place to live what now is austin peay state university was established as austin p normal school which was a school dedicated to educating teachers went on then to become one of the leading liberal arts universities in the in the state and still has a very robust growth pattern graduates of austin peay went on to make great names for themselves so it's an illustrious university and a wonderful asset to our community it adds to the rich diversity of what clarksville is and what clarksville brings to the world i think that historic downtown clarksville is really the cultural hub for clarksville montgomery county you have the architecture you know the culture i just like the sense of community reminds me of where i grew up just that homey type feel that you don't get in major major big cities it's really interesting to see how much clarksville has grown not just population wise but grown with a sense of community we have several cornerstones of arts and culture that being the roxy regional theater and the customs house museum but that has expanded recently with the new f m bank arena and the growth of the downtown commons so the downtown commons hosts and oversees about 70 events a year with montgomery county being the youngest county in the state of tennessee we really offer a variety of things for families to come and do we have those concert nights and we also have our movies but we also offer a great civic space for all your families to come and enjoy we have the water feature that kids can enjoy we can also pick up a couple rounds of tag football and soccer as well but also you can take a moment to appreciate all the art and landscaping located here right in downtown clarksville one of the other great factors that impacted clarksville is the establishment of fort campbell the fort campbell community which is now extremely well established has impacted this community immensely i mean the diversity that has brought with it over the years the the talent the dedication we've become one of the i think truly premier patriotic communities that loves and supports the military and military families i think one of the most interesting things about clarksville and what makes us so unique is that this community is always looking for new and historic scenic places that maybe the community didn't know about before the roxy regional theater has been here as a live professional theater for 40 years i think the customs house museum makes us incredibly unique and the architecture that we were able to celebrate and preserve is something that makes this community unique so the museum was established in 1984. we expanded the museum's role from just being a history museum to being a cultural center that means we get to interpret all types of wonderful events activities history art and a newly renovated children's floor called explorers landing and really those institutions are putting on different events throughout the year working together to bring back the downtown market and film series and the first thursday art walk and a ton of different events that really kind of spreads our fingertips across montgomery county to bring them into one centralized location to experience arts and culture you
