[Music] [Music] [Music] w I'm here at motivation 38 we've just had the unveils done I'm here with Boris and his HQ Sam Ute that's a door Slammer yep that's exactly what it is you built the car pretty much yourself a lot espe total onean band sort of thing yeah that's why it's taken so long it's taking years to get together and where did it all start like what it start with the dream to build something like this uh my original car 38 40 years ago first car was a black hpu so the whole build was based over that I reproduced my first car yeah yeah and upgraded from there did did the plan start out as making a door Slammer or uh origin was going to be a skid car yeah and we're building two of them so one was going to be the young fellow yeah but then blue out proportion so was thought I'll make the first door slamer as this one yeah yeah and did you so you didn't this didn't start with a HQ you you built it from had the chass started out as a one ton of cab yeah and then we realized the wheel base is too long for door Slammer so we had to go back right we're going to make aute now so we grafted all Ute and parts together and shaped all back to that the car obviously the body is immaculate you've built this yourself a lot of people might not know that but what's it take to get it to build a body like this to get in a way that's to get the body to that first stage when you're fiberglass and you got to build a plug first y so you got to make that a perfect car right so sh finish Body Lines gapped everything so we done that we take the molding off the car and basically theut that first product called the plug gets thrown away and that allows you to stick the C to the well then we make the mold and we pull that apart wax molds up yeah wow and then we go through the building process to making all your parts yeah wow which we've made basically we've made three of everything so far trying to get to the perfect part yeah so you got plenty of spares but plenty of spares but they're not usable but they in the junkyard yeah and have you done a you do this for a trade or you've done this for a long time or you just I got into fiberglassing like one of my first jobs yeah so it's been in my background my whole life and I don't actually do it much now it's just help friends out and I stick my Earth Works what's the been the biggest challenge of building a car like this year I uh just a time frame cuz we're only doing like 2 hours a week night 3 hours a week we got a little CR that come on Wednesday night and then the last 2 months we made decision we book it into motivation we got to get it finished so I've been spending hours and hours rubbing it out hanging it coding it to get where we are now and all this is is 15 years though in the in the yeah that's the same thing I've been building mold parts and changing the mold Parts making set doors they not right making new set of doors get it right same with the front end I'm sure you got points where you're sitting there going is this ever going to are we ever going to get this thing on the road yes it is a bit it's like that s you get sick of it then you know you're going to but it's yeah it used to sit for 3 months 4 months sometimes 6 months then we bang we're on again you know what I mean so you've got it looking absolutely perfect tell us about the chassis who built that and what's what's the go with the motor um the CH is All Chrome Molly yeah so we've done that many mods on it now and changed it to how we want it it's still not perfect I'd like to build a new one the way like a suits me sort of thing but that's just another story on saying another job on saying and yeah probably going the post all that if you want so with the motor it's uh this is a brad Anderson Motor so it's a full Billet motor probably drag racers understand a lot more than your local like three car deal yeah uh solid block runs on methanol the motors make like 3,000 to 4 and 1/2 you know I mean they're getting 4,800 horsepower now so on methanol yeah all meth but even all the engineering on it's like we've designed a lot of stuff on there that people don't do and just upgrading things and is it about running a fast number for you in this car or it's more about the you like the project or the building process I love the building side of it the racing like bit secondhand to me but now I got to P for it go through the whole deal yeah and you are came to race it yeah yeah we're hopefully get some test runs April March April and hopefully we'll be loading up for October start of the Season yeah okay but in the meantime we got to build a bus so you want to do a full door Slammer year with this all around the country yeah we do a full Tour on it yeah yeah I'm sure people love love to see it it's yeah that many people have been hanging out to look at it and see the finishing and yeah that was the hardest part holding people back it's certainly different you know like a lot of people you can buy molds right off the off the shelf it's call it in a certain sense but yeah you can buy set GDs guards and D but not we built yeah but even like engineering side making all our own oil tanks and designing the Zoomies so they're adjustable for downforce and thrust and all that which is a major part in the tuneup side of things so yeah yeah do you have an inspiration like from dors that you that sort of gave you the um well years and years ago help all mates build cars and Chapman brothers and and cud we zapia for a while so all that you know a thing or two about running yeah all that all the building of all that gives you the bit more information of the knowledge of it yeah so and all through these guys I've learned to um perfect the problems that they've had I'm sure they've got their eyes on this they kind to see there's a few people looking at see there's no secrets with me everything's on Facebook's on Instagram yeah even all designing of these tanks and that we done them 8 years ago with that Designer filter and now everyone's got them and the big companies that make them actually produce them yeah yeah same thing we don't hold back on all that when are you came to race it um hopefully October okay so this season coming yeah but we need to get the test runs in the license and done all before then yeah so you do a few test test sessions and stuff with it yeah yeah yeah going a shake down and whatever yeah it's all setting the suspension then and P the tune up right for what we want which is another game I say yeah yeah sleep nice again that's cool this sound a little bit Lou than that you never know yeah I know now it's all finished what do you love about it the most are you are you um that I've got to this stage now like I say if I didn't book this in a motivation it would have dribbled on for another year gave me the motivation it gave me the motivation to get it there and done yeah so and now I've got this out the way got a bit of housew work to do yeah keep the wife happy as she comes and then uh I know all about it don't worry and then we'll get the bus underway which is another project say making the load system for it and tooling it up and just to get get to the track just touch on the rear end and what leads into the transmission is pretty special right well we um originally started out with a sheet metal diff with all the floaters on it and time change revolves so we end up getting Mark Williams 12 in which is a diff that goes 600 odd runs they don't break if you run a 9 in or a 10 you have gear problems so to me it's a smart way of starting without having a problem y um so preventative maintenance yeah so saying all that the Shaz was built so we end up chopping half to back off again and starting again with it so that was another beat for the guys helping wasn't what you originally planned but you knew that it was well we had to BU for a different type diff where this one's so big bulky and yeah and that changed that so and the transmission pretty uh trans yep with the transmission we got like a B&J box with a tire Drive uh converter package on the front of it um that's all Jeff CER our main race Cary from the East he organized all these parts for me and kept me up to date with what we need to be at this level of drag racing yeah so I put me hand out for him he he knows everything the benefits of a gearbox like this much easier to drive would you say one benefit is with the clutch yeah all the dust and dirt inside the car yeah and we I don't want that yeah got a nice clean car now not this beautiful car now so we just get in there just plug the O lines in and that's all we need to do for maintening and the other thing running to the auto I've got rid of one guy from the crew which is you need a clutch guy so trying to turn this into a oneman race team hashtag it won't happen but in me head I need to build it so I can handle it with me and the wife and after a bit of tuning you never know maybe you and zpp in a final one day 100% ye versus a c too good yeah we'll have it the Western Australian race off yeah that's it and be good we'll hopefully get to do the tour around and do the states that but same it's a big sponsor buildup to get there yeah which we got a little plan for that and hopefully it all pulls off right and that's and been building it this long looking forward to that long it'll be surreal to be in the position where you're at a start line in a proper competition yeah you know we want to be a like take on Australia if not the world yeah but um to do that we need all this all this money to make this package happen cuz it's not like 10 years ago or 6 years ago 500,000 was your full Australian round yeah now you basically need like a million dollars to do all around yeah yeah lucky the wife didn't hear that 15 years now they been saving your money ready to yeah I've been saving my money but that's it I've been putting my money in it to get to this stage you can't expect sponsors to give you money to build a car it hasn't even run so I got to prove the car first then we'll go to the next level yeah with' the rear end what we've done is we've fixed on other people's problems you know what I mean so the engineering sides are P better that's what I can say what sort of numbers do you want to run you reckon oh we got to be in like a 580 bracket anyway so we got to be crunching under that to to play with everyone and I'm guessing coming up the first year we just going to be waste of time not waste of time but lot of tuning and suspension working out all the power sides not a problem at the moment it's just all suspension getting it running straight I got the patience that to do that but everyone else hasn't they want once you fun then you can focus on little things like you know another bit more mile hour or whatever else yeah well that's that's down the track a lot of people jump in they just want to Pedal it straight to the board do that I'd rather spend the time and if it takes another 6 months that's that's good yeah a long game yeah well I was saying it took me 15 years to get there affect it and it might take me 2 years now to perect the hit to the top you were talking to before too it was interesting the whole body only weighs about 120 Kil yeah yeah obviously we're going to lighten that up this first body was designed to build the Chazzy y so so you're going to build a whole another body again yeah but don't let the wife hear that okay yeah she let anybody know got good this would be would would it be fair to say this might be a show body and you'll have like a sponsored race body we'll keep that as just a backup body and then the GL we'll do a proper carbon body cut the weight right down cuz the car is actually heavy okay and we need to be around 2700 lb Run f that ret if we're heavy it's just it's not our game yeah so that's just a plug with a throwaway oh throwaway my God don't throw that away garage art don't don't throw it if you want to sell it I'll put it on like a I'll put it on like a Canam or something like that make it look sick that's awesome car like this doesn't build itself any people you want to thank for uh the main person I I need to thank is the wife she's right there and a young fell James he's uh he's in riding the cars and everything himself so he's always there he's TIG welding does fabrication so he's really good um Jerry Jerry alridge he's been there from day one ins every time he comes explaining and what's going to break what's not going to break how we're going to rechange it make it good he's he's like the heart of it uh Josh Lawson from promarine he's there every Wednesday night and ringing to say I'm coming we're going to do some work on he's he's the PowerHouse going pushing the next stage to get get this all happening yeah there's a few other guys that come around helping that but they're all they're all part of the team but there's like a heap of them yeah I bet a a lot of these cars don't build themselves even though we all no I started out the whole build was me it's my problem I created it yeah and I can't expect someone to come and rub my cars down cuz you're not going to rub them how I want to rub them yeah it's one of those things I like the name j you did the uh the unal with Sandman you had a bit of Metallica plane yeah well that's the whole car is BU around the theme of into of the Sandman yeah so that's why we got that on the number plate there James a big comment himself I'm sure if he could get his eyes and spend 10 minutes looking at he'd appreciate it yeah yeah exactly yeah yeah it's cool so like I say we got over this point of the stage so next stage is racing and never started with a real car though but no yeah you built your own D yeah yeah that's [Music] right
