okay so I got to give you guys a bit of an update here something pretty freaky just happened I got my first experience being harassed by the public I was pulled off on the side of the road very secluded spot there's nothing around nobody's homes nobody's businesses well out of town and I can sort of hear a man and a woman talking very very softly couldn't make out what they were saying and then you know it's like I hear someone leaning against or something like that touching and touching the tube and basically and then I hear like knocking on the back door like on the roll-up door they walked all the way around knocking on the van pushing it so like rocking it a little bit then they tried to get into the van they actually tried to get into the van via the front doors which are both locked so they couldn't get in that way but that was I mean that was really quite scary this whole thing was I'm just just really freaky and then after that they start opening the roll-up door and I guess I forgot to lock it when I closed it um that was stupid they opened it about a foot they didn't the door didn't even make it over top of the secondary wall here and I did have that second luckily I had I have that second row of protection there when they did that though that really freaked me out so I grabbed my hatchet for splitting wood and slipped into the cab I figured if they were at the back there's not going to be anyone in the cab if they'll if there's someone out front not in the cab like in front of the cab if if there is and I'll I'll confront them but I prefer to just like not engage right yeah so I slip into the front you know and I see that they're parked right in front of my van there's no room for me to pull out so with them at the back and parked in the front I'm basically blocked in I'm not gonna you know run over a pedestrian and so I hear the door shot so I slept back into the into the into the house portion of the van and then I just sit down on my couch I put a shirt on and I wasn't wearing well it was way too hot I've been running the wood stove and I just waited and because it was right next to the river I couldn't hear them pull out and I just sort of waited and I didn't hear any movement I didn't hearing knocking so I turned off the light and just sort of like hold the roll like the sliding door sliding to the cab slightly looked out and they were the car was gone from the front so after that I just just to make sure that they were you know fully gone I did like a tour we've got walked around the vehicle made sure I locked the roll-up door this time that was a dumb mistake so yeah I just waited for them to go away they never said a word uh other than like a whisper to themselves and they left and after they left I sort of sat there and you know I'm really kind of hyper right now I'm not going to sleep anytime soon because now I'm all like you know I've got gentlemen and all that and I was kind of debating like whether I should move or not but I just to play it safe I moved anyway there was really no reason for them to pull over in this spot at like it was almost midnight other than to harass me my kind of idea here is it's just a sort of appeal to people's apathy when I'm doing boondocking like if it's not don't give anyone a reason to harass me and I didn't but there's still gonna be you know that small few people you know just people who want to be a dick so just something that I'm gonna have to you know learn to to deal with basically learn to expect and just to sort of take that extra precaution that extra step of you know making sure that all my doors are locked it's just one something that I thought about for the roll-up door because it's not really like there's nothing back there that I give a about if anyone steals but I hadn't really thought about whether or not someone would want to actually you know break into my home when they knew that I was in there I guess I wasn't really prepared for that sort of level of aggression although for some reason I'd still find it very strange that they weren't you know showing come out or anything like that clearly that's sort of what they wanted but yeah very strange not terribly abnormal from you know what I clean from other people who are doing this sort of thing you know it's not something that I'm gonna be hung up over you know for any longer than I have to be like I said it's a learning opportunity for sure and just something that I can try and think about is you know I'm I made sure that I had an exit strategy but they were able to basically negate my exit strategy so that's something to think about too when choosing choosing spots as as well yeah so that's all I have to say about this experience here with security in mind after that incident I fixed a problem where my passenger door lock couldn't be locked from the outside basically I glued a nickel behind the spring that pushed the locking mechanism far enough back to actually work the way it was intended and because I had the epoxy out I put a big dollop on the door rollers so that they don't get lost ever again so I fixed another problem with a little bit of a hack here up above the wall there was a big draft coming in like because that backdoor just doesn't stop the wind so it would come in and really bring in cold air at night hot air during the day so what I've done is I bought two beach pool noodles cut them so that they fit across and then stuffed them up there so I can still if I open the door they'll just pop out and I'll have to replace him but they could be pushed up there to sort of fill that air gap another modification I made is just this little pinch right here it's fantastic having some place to put those I wanted to make bay - carrot fries but I need an oven for that so the trick for doing that with just a stovetop is to take a Dutch oven and place it on top of a saucepan that way the bottom doesn't burn it's not directly over the flames and you get a pretty good result oh yeah I stumped on the brakes and found out that I forgot to secure my wood stove to the floor [Music] [Music]
