These Sports Cars Are CHEAPER Than A New Family Car

[Music] foreign hey guys no surprise but cars are quite expensive in 2023. I don't want to pick on any vehicles in particular but the cost of a Honda Civic for example is 36 000 pounds a Vauxhall Astra might set you back as much as 42 Grand in fact according to our research the average new car in Britain costs 39 038 pounds average but here's a question for you who wants to spend 39 Grand on a car that's average not me and that got me thinking what could you get for around 40 Grand that's genuinely exciting well I made a list of cars that cost as much as the average new car in the UK only there's nothing average about these let's fire up the site now let's start this off with a car that I actually own it's a Ford Mustang GT I've got it included because it's one of the best affordable sports cars on the market today and it's got a special place in my heart because it was the first car I tested on Top Gear back in the day it was bright yellow and then I went out and bought one for good reason this is actually one of the only sports cars that you can actually buy today that comes with a V8 engine yeah you can buy one with a 2.4 liter EcoBoost as well and if we search for those on the site we'll see that they come in at around a 17 000 pound Mark which is crazy good value but for around the 25 000 pound Mark you can find some really good examples I mean look at this that one's really cool that one's really cool and actually breaking news I'm selling my own Mustang giving you a little sneak preview here this way it looks like it's the best looking Mustang in the UK I think got the Shelby body kit custom exhaust custom everything big Power absolutely insane looking vehicle I love it to bits okay next up is another car that I used to have I own this one for about nine months just before I bought the Mustang and it is a BMW I8 I love these things criminally underrated because they're hybrids they only use a 1.5 liter petrol engine from a Mini Plus batteries and an extra motor but they only make around 362 horsepower which makes people think they're not that great but they weigh less than 1500 kilograms so they're actually very agile lots of fun to drive and most importantly they look great those dihedral doors just make it look like an absolute spaceship especially from the back and look at this on auto trader they are going for as little as 33 000 pounds but for a decent lowish mileage example you're still looking at less than 38 000 pounds so less than the cost of an Astra plug-in hybrid I still miss this car and I think that for the price there's not many cars on the market that are exotic looking as this I would thoroughly recommend this car now the next car I want to recommend is a Bentley Continental GT these have been around since 2003 and have sold by the bucket load over three generations I've had so much fun in these cars over the years and looking at them you'd think they'd be too expensive to afford but not necessarily because on auto trader look how cheap they are I'll organize this by lowest price first so 11995 and this one's got a bit of mileage on it but these w12s run forever and look how gorgeous this car is adorable inside and out it still looks expensive doesn't it north of 62 in 4.7 seconds 200 miles an hour down there from a 550 horsepower engine this is obscene value love this [Music] okay next up Aston Martin the obvious choice is going to be the Vantage or we can also consider the DB9 I'm going to switch it up even more though and go left field here and select the Aston Martin repeat now in case you don't know the repeat it's aston's four-door four-seater Supercar which automatically gives it a big advantage over the DB9 and db11 those cars aren't very practical but with this car you can actually use it as a family vehicle pretty much every day which I think makes it better value for money in the sense that you actually get to use it more often and in more places now we can see some incredible examples on the site this one is less than 30 grand this one's finished in white morning Frost five second not to 60 time rear seat entertainment headphones screens I remember the first time I tested this car I was blown away by it and I'm actually blown away now that I see see them available for less than the cost of a brand new car that's crazy okay should we get exotic now how about a Ferrari yeah how about Ferrari four-seater let's do it so this is the Ferrari 456 and for about 40 Grand you can get yourself a fairly modern prancing horse I say modern this car came out in 92 as a grand tourer with four seats and a 440 horsepower V12 Plus either a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic Ferrari say this car could do 192 miles an hour which at the time made it the second fastest production four-seater behind the Porsche 959 you don't see a ton of these on the road which is a shame because I think they're quite pretty it's got the pop-up headlights nice big smiling Grill the wheels look a bit small but still a gorgeous car I found this one it's in Immaculate Condition it's got a private number plate and comes with a cover as well to protect it I mean you can't tell me that this doesn't appeal to you Ferrari it's great [Music] okay let's get a bit more modern now but stay on the Italian Flex for the time being Maserati Gran Turismo baby yeah a pretty pretty car these first came out in 2007 and are available in Coupe and convertible body styles it's a two plus two it's a two-door and it was initially powered by a 4.2 liter V8 developed in conjunction with Ferrari locking out 405 horsepower through a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox let's see what options we have on auto trader so this one is a 2012 model which has got a bigger 4.7 liter engine with 450 horsepower derived from the 458 Italia I mean look at this one so 27 990 it costs it's a 2011 finished in black 56 000 miles the interior looks lovely as well finishing that cream color difficult to keep clean obviously but just look Sensational and because it's got seats in the back it means you can actually use this pretty much as a daily car you can check a couple of kids in the back of this small enough and and get away with it but what a machine for less than thirty thousand pounds absolutely stunning [Music] right next up is the Audi R8 you can't have a list of cheap cars that make you look rich without including the R8 I mean just to jog your memory the R8 is a mid-engine sports car that came out in 2006 with a V8 engine quickly followed by a V10 and it's always been held in very high esteem unfortunately in 2023 Audi has said that it will no longer be producing the R8 which is a crying shame it's criminal but that surely means that buying a used example is a pretty shrewd investment right now so let's see what we've got to offer on auto trader okay let's organize by price and I mean look at that 30 000 pounds for a 2008 with just under 61 000 miles on the clock 420 horsepower v8 manual petrol and it looks absolutely Sensational doesn't it I just love the look of these cars understated but still quite aggressive as well and depending on how you spec them they can actually look super aggressive as well let me find an example down here there's a white one that I saw which I think is absolutely brilliant looking and just illustrates the point that I'm trying to make so with the white Bodywork and the black wheels it just looks mean doesn't it you see that coming along the road and even though it's a 2007 car it still looks modern this is a proper piece of Kit I've always wanted an R8 and right now I'm super tempted right I'm going a bit left field now most of you are going to tell me I'm mental for this but TBR Tuscan yeah I know it's a bit nuts but these cars are incredible they built these between 1999 and 2006 they were built in the UK in Blackpool now Legend has it that you had to be a bit unhinged to drive a TBR because the company Philosophy was a bit unusual they didn't put anything on their cars that didn't improve performance and that included quite a lot of safety equipment yeah so they rejected ideas like traction control anti-lock brakes and airbags because they just kind of got in the way needless to say that these are for people with a lot of confidence in their own driving ability or very little value in their health let's take a look okay here's one for 35 000 pounds with 43 000 miles on the clock it's a 2002 finished in a lovely blue color I'm just going to go through the pictures here I think it's oh look at the interior I just love that I love I'm a sucker for a white interior with a contrasted against dark color paint this looks absolutely tremendous it's got the big protruding exhaust the circular lights at the rear the little flip up spoiler and at the front the Bonnet is so dramatic those sweeping curves across the front just Sensational to look at let's take a quick look at the specification and talk about performance 0 to 60 3.9 seconds 160 miles an hour not the biggest top speed in the world but thinking about the lack of safety features I don't think I'd want to go much faster than that to be honest tempting but then again I do value my life so let's move on okay this is more like it Nissan GTR these are 35s first dropped in December 2007 and they've captured every petrol head's imagination ever since the beauty though is that they've never really evolved much and what's really sad is that in Europe at least Nissan will be killing off the GTR but you can still pick up a used one for sensible money for example look at this this is an absolute Banger I love the color scheme on this car red and black with the black bonnet absolutely incredible and not only does it look man this particular one has been modified as well so stock we can see that it makes 478 horsepower from a twin turbo V6 this particular carbo is a stage five so it's making 800 horsepower which sounds frightening good value though an 800 horsepower Ferrari will set you back like 300 Grand this one 39 Grand do the math people do the math it makes sense [Music] okay so you can't make any car list without including a Porsche 911 it's only right now we've got to remember that our budget is 39 000 pounds and for that what you're usually going to be looking at is a 996 generation which is 1997 to about 2006. I'm not a big fan of these cars because of the weird fried egg headlights so I much prefer the 997 which is 2004 to 2013. there was a little bit of overlap for the Turbo S GT2 and GT3 versions I actually found a 997 on AutoTrader though for a crazy price it's a little over budget it's about four one nine nine five but I reckon you could sweet talk this retailer Oakwood Oakwood come on let someone have it for 39. I would bite your hand off because this is a gorgeous car it's beautiful isn't it I mean it's just so subtle let's go through some of the pictures here love that dark exterior the wheels look tremendous importantly as well the headlights on this car don't look anything like the fried egg design on the 996 which I think is an absolutely enormous selling point but just a phenomenal machine and a fast machine not a 60 in 3.7 193 miles an hour from a 380 horsepower flat six I feel like everyone needs to own a 911 in their lives and if you're looking for a car for what the average price is in the UK today for a new car this is a strong contender okay last one this is a personal favorite of mine the Alfa Romeo Juliet quadrifoglio I'm going to show you some footage of the extreme gtam version I tested in Italy a while ago go and watch that film if you ain't seen it this was an exceptional car to drive beautiful as well but the standard version isn't actually a million miles away I found a few lovely examples on the site including this one so it's very subtle it's finished in Vesuvio gray metallic with a black half leather interior and 19-inch dark quadrifoglio alloy wheels and it just looks it looks beautiful maybe a little too subtle for my liking but that's kind of the beauty of the Julia chord is that it's basically a normal looking Saloon but with absolutely outrageous performance let's look at the back end as well I've got to say this is my favorite angle on this car by far I love the lights I love the fact it's got this huge diffuser and the big quad exhaust as well again big muscular slightly subtle but if you know you know when it comes to a Julia quad loving that and again 39 000 pounds you can't really argue with that I should point out that every single one of these cars I've shown you might look a bit Out Of Reach but have a think about it because it might not be as bad as you think most people won't have 39 000 pounds lying around but on AutoTrader we do provide Finance so you can put down a small deposit and pay for quite a few of these on a monthly basis another thing we do is to help you sell your car you can either place an advert on auto trader with your vehicle where it will give you a free instant online valuation and tell you what your car is worth and then when you publish your ad we'll show it to millions of people in the UK or if you want the cash now we can give you an instant offer plug your region number into the site we'll tell you what the car's worth and give you a same-day cash offer or even pick up your car so then you're free to spend the money on a car of your dreams or if the idea of a used car is fun but a bit scary a used Ferrari does seem a bit scary we do sell brand new cars as well at pre-haggled price is available with flexible finance options including leasing options as well so there's really no excuse let me know which one of these cars you consider buying drop a comment down below and I'll see you on the next one thanks for watching guys [Applause] foreign [Music]
