[Music] yes [Applause] so eddie van halen back again talking about the king of guitar so you guys really dug the last video and i thought yo i'll hit you with three more cool little tricks that eddie is always doing that just makes everything sound better now before we get too far into this one if you guys would if you're digging the videos hit the subscribe button we actually have a huge guitar course sale going on this week so if you would check that out that's the main way to support the channel and let's get into the lesson alright so let's start with eddie's trill harmonics one of the coolest sounds [Applause] right there every time i do that there's a hair to my eye every time i do that in a video someone's like what did you do who what what is that and it's totally stolen from eddie van halen uh i can't remember the song that eddie does this in but it's real simple and it's just one of those total guitar sounds it sounds like noise guitar players love this so all you got to do is the hardest part is the trill section of it so you're gonna go to fourth fret on the g then you're gonna go to second fret and then open now those are all pulled off and you wanna get to where you only pick the first note because your right hand has a whole separate job on its own so once you get that going take your right hand i use the palm part of my hand here and you're going to let it barely touch the strings to where you're almost palm muting it but not quite i'll show you what i mean how that would be totally palm muted we don't want that we lift your hand up just a little bit to where it's barely muting it and you're getting a harmonic sound right there that's what you do and you kick off a solo you into solo zack wilde does this all the time eddie does it down here you know it's just cool and it's total ebh so now let's dive into eddie's real percussive staccato way that he'll kick off a solo he just throws us in the middle of a fast run or he kicks off a fast run like this what i'm talking about is when you hear eddie go like this and i always thought this was really really cool it's kind of one of those things that once you start doing it you almost can't stop doing it because there's quite a few things happening in here so we're going to think of it as being out of e minor we're just going to go 7 8 10 on the high string but if you just played it like that that doesn't really sound like much it doesn't sound exciting but when eddie does it you know there's so many little things happening here now the first thing is he starts off with a big rake eddie rakes into notes all the time stevie ray vaughan slash all these guys rake into the note so what i'm talking about by that is you're muting with your right hand now instead of muting back here like you would a palm mute you slide your hand up to where you're almost not getting a note it's not a note that we're trying to get we just want that percussive kind of like roll into the note notice how far up i slide my hand and i play all of the strings but you only hear the fretted note [Music] and that adds that percussive you know just power to him to make it sound more powerful all right the third and final i'm going to show you is actual tapping i'm talking about this [Music] that eddie started doing way way back even from dance the night away eddie was doing this stuff i didn't realize it you know as a younger player until i started knowing what he was doing now a lot of people call his other technique tabbing a lot of people refer to that actually as right-hand hammer-ons the actual tapping when he's tapping the notes is when he does like women in love or something like that so we're going to tap out a d major chord so the trick to doing this [Music] go from d major into a major you want to hit the note so you're going to fret your chord so fifth fret on the um a string seventh fret on the d seventh fret on the g seventh fret on the b and then we're gonna go fifth fret on the b sixth fret on the g and then seventh fret on the d get your left hand notes down first you want to not really have to pay attention to what your left hand is doing it just needs to know [Music] so that's the path our left hand is going our right hand is going to tap the same notes 12 frets up so just think of like an octave position of where this is so instead of playing seventh or fifth fret we're going to be tapping 17th fret and then you're going to tap 19th fret now you do want to tap the bar in between 17 and 18. i'm not going straight over 17th fret i'm on the bar between 17 and 18. that's how you get the harmonic to sound out there you go and by bar i mean fret so you go from there and then you're gonna just follow the same outline that you just did [Music] right there all i did was i tapped then i went to 19 on the d and i remember that's the fret between 19 and 20 right there i'm tapping right on the fret same thing on the g same thing on the b that's how you get those notes to sound out real strong okay [Music] then you're going to follow so you're going to tap 17 18 19. and you do this all over the place like i said eddie does it a ton and women in love [Music] [Applause] [Music] and i think that'll be it guys i hope you are just straight up jamming to eddie he was the king and he always will be so other than that i'm going to bounce on out of here hope you all have a great rest of your day if you would subscribe check out all the guitar courses while they're on sale i really appreciate all the support on that and uh yo into bluesy evh style
