there's no place like home there's no place like home there's no place like home there's no place like home why i don't think we're in oz anymore this feels so familiar why we're in kansas juan migo kansas by tin man we're in the oz museum us museum you mean there's some place we can go to experience the world of olives why yes this is the only place you can go to learn about the over 120 year history of the wizard of oz well dorothy why don't we take a peek inside and see what they know about us [Music] learn about the first american fairy tale published by l frank baum in 1900 with characters inspired by events and people in his life learn how his children's favorite bedtime stories inspired more than 40 original short stories and books countless continuing tales by a myriad of authors for over 120 years early 20th century stage plays and films after baum died in 1919 ruth plumley thompson was hired to continue the adventures 1939 mgm movie starring judy garland as dorothy and jack haley as the tin man seen by more people than any other entertainment in history false stories about the mgm production are everywhere but the museum is here to reveal the truth [Music] what shirley temple was considered to play me don't worry dorothy these songs and script were written specifically for judy garland [Music] there's toto but he was my favorite companion throughout oz though he did cause an awful lot of trouble terry a female karen terrier played toto stealing everyone's heart and i made other new friends too the little people were so special and spent nearly seven weeks at mgm and my friends the scarecrow and the cowardly lion and i have been in many shows together at stage place even before the mgm movie brought us together and look i can relive all of those early days right here [Music] i did not like everyone we met in oz the winged monkeys the winky guards and the wicked witch went they gave me a fright to last a lifetime hey dorothy i'd love to have one of these spears [Music] and look at the costumes by gilbert adrian wow [Music] hey dorothy how about we catch a flying monkey fly off to see a broadway show broadway has had two major successful attempts at oz the whiz and wicked i think i'll check out the tv shows first efforts on television after 1939 did not always go well among the best were off to see the wizard the dreamer of oz and the muppets wizard of oz well these movies are great too [Music] oz has inspired so many worldwide actors authors composers directors designers and technicians and we can learn all about them right here jeepers there's so much to learn about the wizard of oz i feel like my brain's been through a twister well one thing's for certain dorothy the wizard of oz will always have a place in our hearts through movies music books television cartoons and that's just the first 120 years who knows where the legacy of oz will take us in the future golly soon they're gonna need a bigger museum tin man the oz museum isn't a dream it's a reality and it's right here right here in kansas in wamigo canton there's no place like oz museum there's no place like us there's no place like homes there's no [Music] place you
