hi everyone welcome back to my channel if you're new here I'm Courtney Ryan and today we are talking about the worst shoes that men wear and I'll give you some recommendations of what to wear instead now I want to start by making something very clear taste is subjective okay this video is not just going to be me calling out shoes that I personally think are ugly everyone has their own personal style that makes them unique and I don't want you all just to look like Cookie Cutter versions of each other for those of you who might not know my background I actually went to Fashion school and I've spent a good portion of my life studying this material I have logical reasoning to back up the items that I'm going to be discussing today things like silhouette structure material quality Etc at the end of the day your clothes should Elevate you and be used as a way to not only express yourself but also to enhance your appearance with something like a shoe you want to focus on the functionality of the item but you also don't want to sacrifice style in the process so if that sounds like something you're interested in this video is for you so take what you need and leave what you don't this is just me sharing my fashion expertise with the guys who want it so I actually broke this video up into two different sections tier one and tier two first I'm going to talk about tier one which is an avoid at all cost except for the given scenario that it's made for type of list these are the heavier hitters in my opinion so let's start very strong here with number one which is hey dudes now I'm starting here because in a recent fashion video I did about casual style for men I expressed my strong opinion on these which surprisingly re received a lot of positive feedback and support from you guys in the comments which was pleasantly surprising I believe my exact quote was hey dudes make you look like you've given up on your life and hey that's harsh I know that but I have far more reasons for disliking them aside for how unfortunate looking they are now these have a soft pillowy like design that probably feels comfortable initially but actually offers little to know our support these are also incredibly unflattering on everyone the silhouette of these creates an odd shape that's difficult to pair with other pieces of clothing especially pants they sort of look like your cosplaying as Freddy Flintstone or like you forgot to switch out of your slippers before you left your house now the time and place for these specifically would be inside the comfort of your home as your pair of house slippers instead I would opt for a true sneaker or something like a leather loafer depending on the type of look that you're going for whether you want to go casual or a little bit more elevated but the hey dudes aren't it so the build and the structure of these just just isn't going to give you that support that you need long term and you would be much better off going for a pair of comfortable sneakers that are going to give you that support that you need and look a heck of a lot better in the process my next one here should be no surprise and that is Crocs Crocs also acquired hey dude at the end of last year so birds of a feather flock together there's a time and a place for Crocs and I need to start by saying that first these do have a functional element to them Crocs were originally created for boers prioritizing waterproof materials and grip focused Souls these pulled a lot of inspiration from clogs and were designed to be easy to take on and off they also have an oddly specific 13 holes on the top of the shoe that's meant for ventilation and to let out excess moisture so I will reiterate here I understand the functionality aspect of these if you're in a wet environment if you're playing in a creek if you're in a sprinkler in the front yard with your kiddos if you're gardening if you're at a water park maybe even but aside from these specific scenarios I wouldn't wear them out because of this foam material of the shoe they don't provide ample support or protection I hope you don't step on a rusty nail while you're wearing a pair of Crocs because that would be tragic now I'll be honest here and also say this yes I think they're ugly too they had a campaign that was actually ugly can be beautiful so I'm not saying anything controversial here again these create an incredibly unflattering silhouette can create unpleasant blisters and excess foot sweat due to the material they're overpriced in my opinion for what they are and are extremely hard on the eyes so a lot of logical reasons to back up my distaste for Crocs again there are a time and a place for a lot of these I understand the fundamental elements that might draw you to a shoe but aside from those really Niche situations I would avoid wearing them I remember I'll even tell you a personal story here to throw myself under the bus in fifth grade I had a pair of bright pink Crocs okay I also had the little jewels that stuck in the holes I vividly remember being out on the playground our playground was made up of little pieces of mulch during recess my Croc would be full of mulch it would poke me in the foot it was uncomfortable it was terrible little things get through the holes if you're going to be outside in the sun good luck with the tan you're going to get from a pair of Crocs tragic but also I just vividly remember how irritating and frustrating it was when my Crocs would just be full of elements from the outdoors dirt sand mulch horrible truly terrible so unless you were in again a wet environment unless you're gardening out in the sprinkler at a water park on a boat apparently I read online that these have a grip focused so but I remember slipping and sliding everywhere in these things maybe I'm wrong maybe they've changed their design but it's going to be a no from me my next one here is one that I hope that we can all be on board with and that is leather strappy sandals also commonly known as fisherman sandals your poor feet are trapped in a hideous cage why are you doing that to yourself now I understand why a guy would want to wear other kinds of sandals okay they're easy to slip on and off they're good for the beach the pool I can be reasonable here still don't like them but I get it however a leather sandal with straps has none of those things they aren't easy to slip on and off and they get water sand and whatever the heck else trapped in them and if you wear these with socks straight to jail wearing socks with a sandal would defeat the entire purpose of wearing a sandal in the first place to keep your feet cool to allow them to breathe the convenience of taking them on and off I just don't get it but to wear a sandal that is a cage on your foot where you have to buckle or strap yourself in and then also put a sock on with it unless you're doing this for health reasons don't let this be you and again I'm going to be honest here because a lot of you come from my personal opinion I don't particularly like any kind of sandal on men slip-ons flip-flops you name it but I understand that there's a time and a place again that time and place being if you're at the pool if you're at the beach if you live somewhere tropical a leather strappy sandal though has none of these positive traits that justify a sandal if you're going to wear a sandal at least get one that's going to make sense there's another shoe that reminds me of these but I think they actually serve a purpose and those are chos or Chocos I see a lot of people wear these on Hikes where they're going to be in water or things like that um so serving that purpose I totally get it but unless you're hiking or doing an outdoor activity in these take them off they are so unflattering they give you terrible tan lines and I would just really not recommend them next up we have square toed shoes once again here which is a common theme for all of these shoes shoes is an unflattering shape and silhouette these also tend to look a lot more casual which isn't really the point of a dress shoe so it doesn't really make a ton of sense instead of the square toe I would opt for a pair of oxfords Derby's or blue chers another thing to mention here on the silhouette of your shoe is this can either elongate you or cut you off because that square toe is really boxy and blunt it doesn't elongate you the same way arounded or slightly pointed toe does again I say slightly pointed because I'm not a fan of the super pointy shoes for men but the square toe actually looks quite heavy and bulky and going for a rounded toe will also stand the test of time and will never go out of style the square toe might work for something like a cowboy boot or a work boot if you need something with a little bit of extra room in the toes but aside from that I would strongly recommend a more rounded toe and still am not a fan of the look of any sort of square toed shoe next up we have puffy skate shoes I'm talking Osiris DC etes by no means am I knocking all skate shoes I think a lot of skate shoes are fine on the right person like Vans for example I don't like them personally but I understand that people like them and rock them and that's their thing I'm talking about these huge bulky puffy shoes now I'm not a skater so I can't speak from personal experience here but there seems to be a lot of back and forth on how great these puffy styles were to skate in anyways that's not for me to argue but what I do know is that these are bulky heavy and unflattering they make you and your feet look much wider and honestly kind of look like an elephant foot that's what I always think of when I see these so I would just avoid these honestly I could also lump into this category anything that has two thick of a soul or something that is very bulky something that has a huge platform on it they always just remind me of something that would be a one-way ticket to a rolled ankle I don't know if you guys have ever worn a shoe with a big platform but if it doesn't have ankle support with it I always just feel like I'm going to roll my ankle or twist my ankle or have a very unfortunate event happen to me so also safety element here not necessarily the best design for that I know these were designed with a lot of padding in the actual foot area to protect the foot um when people were skating but I've also heard that they weren't the easiest to skate in they weren't the easiest for maneuverability or doing sort of tricks and things like that because they were very heavy and bulky and weren't as easy to skate in as more of a streamlined shoe is so if you are a skater I know there are better looking shoes out there than these puffy Elephant Shoe monstrosities now we're moving into tier two these aren't as serious as tier one and not all of these are a specific shoe but more so a feature of a shoe that I would personally avoid the first one here is a gum sole dress type sneaker this whole dress shoe sneaker lovech child concept is a bit strange to me I'm not really a fan of any sort of dress shoe and sneaker hybrid but especially not the ones with a gum sole or a really thick foamy Sole and here's why these don't really look dressy or elevated enough to be worn with a suit or an outfit that you typically wear a pair of dress dress shoes with but they also don't make a ton of sense with a casual outfit either so it's kind of just this weird limbo you are much better off going for a traditional dress shoe like a bler or a derby instead a loafer would also be a really good choice that could easily be dressed up or down which is one of the many reasons why I love them you know instead of trying to make this hybrid shoe work in all these different scenarios when in reality it probably doesn't just get two pairs of shoes that can serve their own purpose and actually give you the function and versatility that you need next I have shoes with impractical Hardware key word here is Impractical if a piece of hardware on a shoe has a practical use or as a functional element of a shoe that's totally fine right it's serving a purpose we might not all love the look of them but at least it's serving a purpose so I'm not picking on that but the issue with impractical Hardware is that it serves no purpose and tends to just make a shoe look a bit gudy or cheap Hardware is something that I would recommend being mindful of in general when you're purchasing a shoe often times this is what can cheap Deen the appearance of a pair of shoes due to the materials that they use for these also because of the nature of a shoe being the article of clothing that takes the most wear and tear you know it's quite literally hitting the cement or ground when you walk Hardware on a shoe might get more worn down destroyed or tarnished so again something to be mindful of if it's not necessary if it's not a functional element of the shoe I would recommend just leaving it a shoe will almost always look better without that impractical piece of Hardware anyway in the fall I actually bought myself a pair of boots and didn't notice until they got to my house that they had this really strange gold piece of hardware on the heel and it just completely ruined the look of the shoe it made the shoe look so much cheaper it wasn't the best quality shoe to begin with it wasn't like a super expensive one it was not a Splurge for me I just wanted a pair of boots that I could casually wear around um so I didn't spend a ton of money but they would have been fine without that little piece of Hardware but the little gold Hardware on the heel just completely cheapened the look of the shoe and I know that with wear and tear it would end up looking really bad long term so I sent them back right so something as little as that that you would never think would make a big difference actually does um and it's just something to be mindful of when you're buying shoes again if you don't care that's totally fine but if you want your shoes to look nice long term I would recommend staying away from that next is luxury designer brand shoes I know we don't all have the same definition of luxury luxury to me is knowing I bought a well-crafted item that could theoretically Outlast me if taken care of it's something that is timeless with attention to craftsmanship and good quality now maybe your idea of luxury is different than mine so that's something to keep in mind here too but one thing I know for sure is that so many of these luxury designer brands are a Flatout ripoff what I want you to know is just because something claims to be luxury or has a designer logo on it does not automatically mean the quality is going to match the often Hefty price tag for the same price as something like a YSL or Balenciaga shoe you could get Carmin Edward green John lob brands that are focused on true craftsmanship and great quality that are going to stand the test of time that could Outlast you if taken properly care of a lot of these have souls that can be completely resold so you get even more use and wear out of the product I mean it is just crazy the price differences between something that is you know very trendy and popular um or has you know a designer logo on it versus something that's actually true craftsmanship and honestly real luxury in my opinion do your own research of course but don't fall into the Trap of buying something that claims to be luxurious or designer and thinking it the quality is going to match just because of the fact that it's designer there are so many Brands out there that are either under the radar or just aren't as popular as some of the mainstream type of designers are that are going to last for many years if you properly take care of them things that are actually good quality so I would highly encourage you to do your own research and do your due diligence before wasting your money on a pair of cheap designers shoes on the topic of designer I would also refrain from splurging on very trendy items that are probably going to be out in a season um and that are ultimately just going to be a waste of money so guys that's all I have for the worst shoes that men wear and what I would recommend wearing instead if you
