The Waltons - The Walton Hamner House & Waltons Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Virginia

now i know most of you at least most of you are familiar with the uh television series walton's mountain are the waltons and it was filmed on actually it was actually filmed out in hollywood somewhere but this is the area this is where the writer earl hamler's from it's where they made the museums and um yeah it showed for nine seasons but i gotta grab something i'm gonna grab an extra battery just in case for my camera and uh we're gonna get on our way here okay the actual museum that is in this old school we're gonna save that for last because i think they have it like the old house replicated you know the interior the old house replicated you know probably better than well the earl handler's house you know i think this is uh his childhood home and then uh they may have done a better job of at this bed and breakfast because even the front you know the whole facade the big front porch the little side room on the right you know this all looks a lot more similar to the the house on the show and there's a replica of uh john boyd's car forget what this was it has uh california plates on it maybe this is from the because it was uh you know the movie was uh phil mountain california so john please whole car didn't uh i think he got this just before he went off to college didn't he all right we'll get inside here [Applause] all right all they call it yeah welcome john and olivia's bed and breakfast and ham their house all right so it cost a couple of bucks to throw it so let me stop the video here real quick uh what i didn't count on with this being a bed and breakfast was you know staff being in here cleaning this morning you know the background conversations uh people just you know kind of walking into the shot so um i'm gonna mute this and narrate and then we're gonna get down to the hamner house and over to the museum so uh we'll make short work of this uh over to the left of the living at this entrance and living room is the grandparents room and there's what i didn't realize in the show was there's two entrances to this uh you could come in through right here or off to the right now in the hallway you could go in uh there was another entrance up there midway in in steps that came came down so so the living room over here pretty good job on the living room very similar uh we'll get back to that the kitchen there's a living room out there uh yeah the kitchen i don't recall those big bay windows over there in the show i don't think the walton house had big bay windows and uh this stove just seems small i don't know um there are some props from the show uh here's where is that mary allen or i forget which ones which one's which again but uh that's when she got married uh in the show okay john boyd's room it's pretty similar you know it's inspired by it's not a replica the desk placement doesn't you know some things just don't seem right about it you know um here's a picture of the girls and uh all autographed all signed i've got a reunion here at one time this is supposed to be the parents room um it wasn't shown a lot in the show it really looks like just about any other kind of room and down the hallway is uh oops there's some stuff i forgot to cut out but uh this is supposed to be the girls room it seems kind of a cramped room with the beds together i don't remember it being uh so here okay this is supposed to be the boys room nothing really stands out about about it really uh they're not similar all right we'll come back downstairs get another shot of the kitchen over here and uh yeah and they're okay the living room is where you know a lot of shots in the living room the family gathering around the radio for more updates or been playing the piano and a lot of gatherings okay that includes the tour of john and olivia's bed and breakfast so i'm gonna get on the street right here and uh this would be a self-guided tour so i've got a key to go in okay now down here yep and there it is yeah down here was the truck this is what i would love to have i would seriously this has always been like a favorite uh except this one's been shortened it has a little short wheelbase and short bed but you have a family truck it had a pretty long bed on it because they had the uh the sawmill and the lumber and trees and stuff on it so this is a house that earl hamner grew up in and inspired the whole thing so i believe it's yeah everything was kind of taken from this house so you should certainly see some similarities good morning good morning how are you i'm good i'm just starting to clean this house but there's information boards i'm going to let you walk around and do your own thing okay okay thank you you're welcome photos of the cast through here you can see the era is uh let me try to stand back here you know yeah this was set in era of you know the from 1932 i think through the through world war ii there's even a radio in the bedroom radios were pretty big uh back then so i don't see any cast photos of the cast in here but let's go to the living room maybe you're standing here through the door another big radio on the tv yet them days old telephone oh there's a tv i don't think that's era correct big family tables country charms though oh here's a cast photo i think this is from the uh from the homecoming yeah i thought that was the one where they went out and left their uh our christmas tree but there's all the kids from yeah oldest the youngest for elizabeth all right let's get up to the museum and here actually the handler house has been registered as a virginia historic landmark all right i want to get up to the uh to the school the old school that's the museum because i think that is where the uh you know where the actual rooms of the set you know that we all seen and loved on tv i guess where they're all replicated uh the best we'll see yeah i guess the bed and breakfast up here was actually um redone with i don't know where they get their uh the layout from and the plans they probably just tried to make it as similar as they could maybe based on what they've seen in the show and maybe somebody just sat there with a sketch pad trying to get the layout right or i mean there was no actual house you know the the uh you know those are all sets out in hollywood of the interior so there's no real blueprints you know of the perfect replica but they their claim is it's inspired by they don't claim it's a replica so that covers that so there's an exhibit room but they have they do have their replicated rooms around here we're going to see them in a minute but you know here's like the the layout uh you know the house and the swing in the chairs out in the front film boys car there was the house and shed over there on the and then uh the sawmill when they built this they did uh in the chickens that's it's pretty nice so what do we have here i think different things that uh different people or fans have sent in different memorabilia uh pertaining to probably their shows production you know other cars that were maybe you know i don't know i've never seen any of this stuff on the set but i don't know how it's related but i'm just kind of interested in stuff that we would have seen on the show oh and this school is actually a school that uh the school that earl hammer went to and graduated from and uh john boy yeah obviously this had been the big uh gymnasium that probably doubled doubled as an auditorium stage but let's go back here i was here was uh a hurricane camille devastated this area in august of 1969 just just devastated where are we at here this is uh this is supposed to uh uh replicate part of the baldwin sisters house so never seen much of their house there was there was the you know the living room you know never seen much of their house but uh this still yeah they were uh you know known for making their a special recipe remember the baldwin sisters recipe but this was a little still that was actually confiscated in this area so interesting this is not the baldwin sisters recipe machine however this is a real working recipe machine confiscated locally just dead fire in the fixins all right there's a picture there's a picture of the bulb and sisters pouring her famous recipe [Applause] oh yeah let's not forget about the yancy topper all right there's uh i think there's having a little bit of recipe maybe good old schools of old creaky wooden floors okay now this is looking better this is a look they have this uh they thought they brought this thing this was actually uh from hollywood they brought one of the devices here they used for filming but uh this kitchen this kitchen looks better a little bit dark in here but yeah see i don't remember the ironing board being over in some bay window that was over and uh bedding breakfast so i thought the prep table was a little bigger too but uh this looks a little more like it all right in the living room um you got the front though this all looks better i guess uh [Music] except uh the other radio was over here i remember everybody uh gathering on the radio over here and it's part of the living room i just don't i just don't have good memories of the piano location but um things look like the i said how you remember it in the show i'm gonna go ahead and narrate uh in the gift shop here this is supposed to be uh ike godzi's store and uh yeah because of some customer you know gift shop customer conversation i'm gonna narrate this part but uh yeah this kind of lost some of the feel here i think because it has modern day gift shop stuff in it you know um but there's a little i i can core beth i think that was her name but look they have some local products here like a lot of gift shops do honeys and jams and you know that sort of thing i could probably get a walton's mountain t-shirt right the old old style phone yeah a lot of modern day stuff and buttons deckers postcards you know coffee cups uh what else is in here there's jewelry and yeah the modern day the gift shop stuff just kind of loses the authentic the authenticity you know the replication of ike store maybe some of the stuff over behind the counter i don't know what we have here there they are there we go there's the clan yeah i don't know it doesn't have the this doesn't have the fill likes store for some somehow maybe this scale maybe this whole scale helps a little bit all right we'll head over to jonboy's room same thing there's just some chatter around here um john boy's room this probably looks a little better than the yeah this looks a little better than the uh replication than what the was over at the bed and breakfast i remember the uh yeah the desk being over in front of some windows and that wasn't the case over there pretty similar pretty similar except for the glass cases over there we do have another location in mind for uh it was another tv series bringing back lots of memories that's probably gonna be in the next video and it's not too too far as is it it's always from here but i think you'll if you enjoyed this video i think you'll enjoy the next here's what sometimes happens look belle's perfectly comfortable i've been out uh and we've been out um what sometimes happened is i come back to the rv and i put the camera down and i say okay well let's see if we need to go outside here and you know before we get back on the road so i put the camera down i grabbed her leash of course open the door and um and off we go and sometimes i forget to pick the camera back up yeah it's nicer to record and uh say hi to bella you know outside and when she's in here just laying here ah so um anyway i promise we're gonna show uh bella bella might have a little video coming up here uh um we got somewhere planned maybe here or we can let her get out and do something extra special so and now for a sudden an abrupt ending [Music] you
