here's a vocal technique I've been hearing everywhere in 2023 used by Fred again Skrillex and bicep just to name a few [Music] this video is supported by my sound design course which now also includes all of my preset and Sample packs check the link in the description to learn more so here's a vocal we're working with from splice if you [Music] can always use an AI tour to grab an acapella from any song you like I'll leave a link in the description below to my favorite if you want to try it out yourself one really easy way to achieve this vocal effect is to use an auto pan and set the phase to zero this can work well but really we're after a bit more control over the Rhythm and swing of our lead let's instead set up a midi track with a sampler trigger in some kind of noise sample let's give it a more percussive amplitude envelope now we have much more freedom to draw out the Rhythm we want our vocal lead to follow once you're happy with the Rhythm set up a new audio track with a gate plugin turn sidechain on and choose the midi noise channel for the input the last step is to make sure your vocal sample is in key with your track but from here you can basically just start chucking in random sections of your vocal and see how it sounds it's also worth playing with both the gate threshold and noise floor as well as the amplitude envelope of your noise trigger we can then combine and duplicate different Loops to create a dynamic vocal lead that changes over time [Music] we can also repetch different chops to create more variations in the melody to get the more polished sound we're after though we can really start bringing this lead to life with some processing let's first hear the vocal without any processing first some Ott multiband compression to bring out some details [Music] then some Dimension expander width using serum's effects mode [Music] a bit of cleaning up with some EQ [Music] finally some Reverb using a return track with some side chain from the kick and vocal and also an EQ so the Reverb doesn't interfere with the rest of the track [Music] one final trick that produces like Skrillex use a lot is formant automation which can be really effective for keeping the sound interesting over time [Music] if you're wondering about the drums and bass sound in this video they're actually stems from a track by pluco the way I got these stems was by using my new favorite AI stem separation software which I'll leave a link to in the description below give it a try for yourself I promise you it will blow your mind as honestly for me being such a game changer let me know down in the comments if you'd enjoy more quick tip videos like this one be sure to check out my sound design course which now also includes all my preset and Sample packs or check out this next video for more sound design inspiration foreign [Music]
