[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so last week I shared my ultimate minimalist white setup and while I love the whole light mode aesthetic I think deep down I'm more of a dark mode kind of guy and this de setup is one that I've been using as my primary over the past couple of months and over those past couple of months I've been making tweaks here and there to really dial this in to what is essentially my dream death setup and this setup is the result of several years of trial and error with hundreds maybe even thousands of experiments with different layouts and combinations of gear okay well maybe not thousands but I definitely have tried out a lot of stuff to optimize my setup and now with this I feel like I've gotten it pretty close to perfect now before we get started I know a lot of you guys are going to watch this and comment about how expensive everything is and while yeah a lot of this stuff on here is definitely on the premium side in my experience buy cheap buy twice has proven to be true time and time again and given how much time I spend here I think it only makes sense to invest in it and nowhere is that more true than with the desk and chair so right from the outset I knew that I wanted something big most desk manufacturers only make desks up to about 72 in long and after trying out a few of those I always felt like I wanted something just a little bit bigger so with nowhere else to turn I asked my friend to custom build me a 80x 35 in top in this gorgeous Walnut which I have been absolutely loving and since I was going custom I asked him if he could also build me a cable management trait kind of like the one that's in the secret lab Magnus Pro I always thought the whole idea of that desk was super cool but a lot of the reviews I saw had complaints about the stability so I just decided not to go for that one basically I just have this basket to hold all my cables and this extra piece on the back to cover it up it just gives me a good spot to store all of the extra cable bulk that I have and it really helps with keeping the setup clean and to help out with that I also got this magnetic cable snake so that all the cables that need to run to the wall aren't just dangling around like one of the huge issues with standing desk regarding cable management is that any cables you have running to the wall need enough slack to accommodate the desktop moving up and down but all that extra cable slack can look really messy and this cable snake just kind of helps solve that problem so for the legs I went with the uplift V2 commercial four-legged sit stand desk so for a desk this big stability was a pretty big concern and these are definitely Rock Solid they can lift over 500 lb easy and have minimal wobbling even at standing height I also got these really heavyduty casters which roll super smooth even on this relatively thick carpet that I have in my room so that was probably more detail on the desk than you guys wanted to know but a lot of you guys were asking about about it in my last video so there you go now arguably more important than the desk is the chair cuz it holds you up for hours and hours every day and in that department I am a huge Herman Miller Fanboy right now I'm using the gaming version of the embody and it is just the most comfortable chair I have ever used it really encourages you to sit up with good posture and it's a lot more forgiving than the airon which really punishes you for having bad posture seriously I just can't say enough good things about this I kind of Bounce Around between this this and the airon but right now this is the vibe okay so before we move on to all the stuff on the desk I wanted to mention the sponsor of today's video me so if you guys didn't know when I'm not doing YouTube I am a professional photographer and every time I go on a trip somewhere I always try to take some cool photos and whenever I take them people always are asking me for prints so I thought it was about time for me to set up a website and I thought a great way for viewers like you guys to support a small Creator like me would be to purchase one of these prints rather than me making a patreon or something where you guys just don't really get anything of value the prints that I have on the wall are just some of the ones that you can find on the website so if that's something you'd be interested in and you want to support the channel definitely check out my website at jm. store it's still definitely a work in progress and super basic right now but I'll be updating it over time I would love it if you guys checked it out and picked something up but if not no pressure I just really appreciate you guys clicking on this video anyways moving back onto the desk let's talk about what is more or less the centerpiece of the setup the monitor the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57 in and beside being a mouthful it is one of the best monitors I've ever used but with a huge as risk I actually made a video about this pretty recently so definitely go check that out if you're interested but it's really great because it's the first monitor to have a 32 by9 aspect ratio at 57 in giving you the equivalent of having two 32-in monitors which for me is the perfect size and in combination with the mini LED backlight which is my favorite backlight Tech at the the moment basically makes this the perfect monitor for me but like I said there is a pretty big asteris like pretty much right after I posted that video on the monitor it just straight up died on me like I just got home one day and it wouldn't turn on so I got with customer service and eventually they did replace it but it took almost 2 months and apparently it's not just me either like a lot of the comments in my video were people who had the same issues and for a product that's this expensive that's just not really acceptable and it was especially frustrating for me because this video was actually supposed to come out about 2 months ago but it died in the middle of filming so unless Samsung sorts out their QC issues I would be very worry about buying this for yourself but if it does work it is a great monitor anyways even though the monitor gives me a lot of screen real estate sometimes I just want one extra screen and that's where the iPad comes in I've got it angled on the stand right below the monitor which is at the perfect viewing angle this is definitely a little extra but it's nice to have I usually use it for watching videos cuz I'm just one of those people who always likes to have something playing in the background which is probably bad for my attention span but is what it is it's also really nice to have the screen on a totally different Computing device because sometimes if I'm playing a game or something it can be annoying to have to alt Tab out just to make any adjustments to other windows and also since I'm using this with a Mac I can use it as an extended screen and control it with the same keyboard and mouse which is really convenient so next to the iPad I've got this mag safe charger from grov made that like one of the densest things I've ever held it's basically just a solid piece of metal with some leather and wood trim on it and it being so heavy is really nice cuz you can pull the phone off without having to worry about the Bas coming with it so I use that to charge my iPhone and airpods but for everything else I've got this wireless charging pad from Tesla it's got this really nice all metal build and it's lined with Alcantara and what's especially nice is that you don't need to line up the charging coils on this if you place your device anywhere on the pad it'll charge and for all my WI charging needs I have this Aviator cable from aoi that I've been loving it's the highest quality feeling cable that I've ever had and I just think it looks so cool with the cable and that bright yellow really pops and you can even replace the end to a lightning connection if you need to but hopefully within a year or two lightning just won't be a thing anymore for the mouse I'm using the trusty Logitech MX Master 3s which I've had basically since it came out and it's probably the best productivity Mouse out there and I just haven't found anything better the keyboard though changes pretty much every other month cuz I just like to try different stuff out but right now I'm using the iix super Zone x 75 this was a custom build and it's got wuku mirandi switches in there with the all metal Alivia key caps which currently I am in love with personally I just really like that feeling when you type on these you get that subtle little cold to the touch feeling on every keystroke that reminds you that these are metal key caps and I'll just give you guys a little keyboard ASMR cuz I think it sounds great as well [Applause] so some sometimes I'm feeling a little lazy and I don't feel like typing even though that keyboard is awesome so for those times I actually keep this pixel 7 Pro around cuz the speech to text on it is unmatched and it's especially nice for when I have to write the scripts for these videos cuz I feel like I can sound a lot more natural if I'm just speaking into the phone rather than typing it out I also got a magic Trackpad that I use pretty much exclusively for gestures cuz even though you can do most of them with a keyboard it's just so much more satisfying and intuitive with the trackpad and I figured since I had the space I might as well put one there so all that stuff is sitting on top of this grov made desk mat this is their matte version and I really like it cuz it just makes everything feel like it's not just hanging out in space like without it I feel like all the stuff sitting on the desk would just feel almost like clutter but for some reason when I have this pad here Everything feels like it has a home it's also a really high quality super durable material with a cork Underside to provide a little bit of cushioning so it's a little bit more comfortable when you're resting your hands on the desk not by a lot like it's not soft but it is noticeable definitely one of the unsung heroes of a good death setup just like a good Thunderbolt dock the one I'm using is the Cal digit ts4 and it's probably the best doc on the market right now and I say it's to unsung hero because it's one of the most important parts of this setup but also probably one of the most boring you basically just connect all your peripherals into this Dock and then connect the dock to your computer computer meaning anytime you want to take your laptop on the go with you all you have to do is unplug one cable and without the STC Cable Management would just be a nightmare but with it I can just Route One Long Thunderbolt cable to the bottom of my desk where I let my laptop live on top of this drawer that I got from Vivo and I really love how it's so hidden and out of view there so one of the things that I value a lot in a good Des setup is good audio so my speakers of choice right now are the CF LSX 2s and man these are some of the best sounding speakers that I have ever heard in my life like it's almost unbelievable how good these are considering their form factor like usually one of the first things to suffer when you have a speaker this small is the Bas and I just never really felt the need for more with these I also think they just look super classy like even the back looks great on these which you can't say about most speakers and they sound awesome too so win-win and if you're looking to treat yourself to a great pair of speakers definitely give these a look now if I can't use speakers for whatever reason like someone else is in the room or something then I've got my airpods Max hanging on this headphone stand from Banks which I really like cuz it's got this Pringle shaped headband rest which really makes it so that you don't have to worry about indentations on your headband and lastly I think one of the most overlooked parts of desk setups is lighting like I think it just does so much to change the feeling of the setup and make it feel more alive but sadly a lot of people neglect it so I've got a couple of things here to try and solve that problem the first is this light bar on top of the monitor it's definitely not as nice as the Ben Q one that I used to have and I wish it got a lot brighter but since the monitor is so curved I had to get a curved light bar as well and this one matches the curve of the monitor perfectly but I really like these onm monitored light bars and I make sure to put them in all my setups because it really just lights up the surface of your desktop where your hands go without taking up valuable desk space I also have this light bar integrated into this Des shelf from hexal and and this is definitely not as important as the monitor light bar but it kind of just does the same thing but from a different angle this thing is also pretty cool cuz it offers a lot of cable management features like an integrated power strip on the back Cable Management tray and integrated storage this is probably one of the things that gets the most comments on how overpriced it is but my hot take is that it's actually very appropriately priced like it's not a great deal but I don't think you're getting ripped off either like the build is extremely premium and there just really isn't any other product on the market that does what this does and lastly on the back of the monitor I've got a couple of hue play bars and this Hue gradient strip on the back of the desk these are basically just to give a back loow onto the wall behind the Monitor and it really helps with reducing eye strin cuz our eyes don't like there to be a large difference in brightness between our bright Monitor and the dark wall behind it and this just kind of helps even it out and alleviate that that and I know this lighting setup really seems very extra and over the top but I think there's a huge difference that you can see between it being on and it being off and not having it but yeah that's pretty much everything going on with the desk setup I am personally very happy with how everything turned out but these things are always working progresses so I'll keep on evolving it over time and updating you guys along the way hope you guys enjoyed it and found some inspiration for your own setups at home I'll try to include links to everything I mentioned in the description box below those will be affiliate links so if you purchase anything through it it'd be really helpful to me if you bought it through those links it won't cost you anything extra but I will get a small commission for everything you buy through those links and if you're interested in picking up one of my prints definitely check out my website at J store anyways thank you so much for watching and I will catch you guys in the next one peace
