leaving the town of San Pedro at 4am and heading out along these Dusty tracks in the darkness felt as if we were driving straight up towards the stars in the incredibly clear skies of the Atacama Desert a few hours of driving then we climbed up almost another 2 000 meters above sea level from the town of San Pedro the temperature got gradually colder hitting -20 degrees Celsius but we were almost there and thankful that our Nissan kicks had survived the journey up to the tatio Giza field [Music] good [Music] [Applause] wow welcome to El tatio we've made it so we've driven about two hours from San Pedro and I've got to say that those roads and that drive is not for the faint-hearted I'm I'm a confident driver and I've driven Lots throughout my life for work and for personal like around the world and that was this brutal drive as I've ever done we were up here at about four and a half thousand meters above sea level and some of those roads and some of the scenery on Route was spectacular and scary at the same time we saw a car that had been flipped over you leave at about 4 a.m in the morning to get here in time for Sunrise it's about seven a.m now 7 7 30. we've got the benefit of the mountains there um so we've got a bit more time before the sun rises in this part we came through some beautiful areas like some plateaus with some salt flats and it got down to as much as -20 degrees here it's about -10 so we are absolutely freezing and we're finding it hard to breathe because of the adrenaline of the drive and because of the altitude but just look at the geysers how cool is this I've been to um the geysers in Iceland which are stunning but this is like real rugged Intrepid Adventure it's so cool to be here kirsty's never seen geezers before so it's amazing for her to see I'm so excited for her to see this it cost about 21 000 pesos for the two of us so it has about 21 pounds and you go into security you buy a ticket and then you've got to go over to announce your arrival and then you've got to go over to the medical and entry barrier and to show you a ticket and there's about three different places that you drive into and park up for viewpoints Unfortunately The Thermals which you can go in are actually closed at the moment they said it's because of the pandemic that seems to be getting used as an excuse a lot in this part of the world I've got to say but yeah we're gonna drive to the three different viewpoints cannot wait to see it it's absolutely absolutely stunning you can see the sun's going to come up over the horizon I can see it shining on the side of the mountain peaks so yeah let's go and explore altatio cannot wait let's jump back in the car and credit to our hire car because that has taken some punishment on the roads here I'm amazed it's still in one piece [Music] this real landscape is the tatio Giza field the third largest geothermic area of its kind in the world and the largest in the southern hemisphere the tatio Giza field is home to around 80 geezers that pour from the ground at a staggering height of 4 320 meters above sea level the largest of all geezers in this field is called el tatio which means the old man that cries although this Giza is also known as killigiza as over the years El tatio has claimed a few lives due to people being overly ambitious with their photos you can of course take a tour bus up here instead of driving but as we already had our car we decided to explore at our own pace arriving in plenty of time to watch this steamy Sunrise above the mountains [Music] thank you I am so thankful for that Sunrise that was beautiful to see and it was obviously gone up in temperature a lot so I'm really happy apparently there's over 80 geezers here in the El tatio field making it the largest geyser field in the Southern Hemisphere and the third largest in the world and we can see like bubbling away so awesome it was my first time seeing geezers so I'm really excited and the water temperature boils around 85 degrees Celsius which blows my mind so that's crazy hot there are some thermal pools that you can go in but it's closed today though I don't really feel like getting into my bikini right now anyway but yeah this is just awesome to be here and the sun I can feel it on the back of my legs is so nice can't wait to wander around and see the bubbles up close [Music] foreign [Music] a couple who have been on the road for the past three years sharing our adventures around the world right now we're making our way through South America and exploring everything it has to offer if you enjoy seeing new places and real experiences Please Subscribe and welcome to the adventures of Tide knot Travelers [Music] absolutely incredible to be here there's so much to walk around and there's just little vents to sit around everywhere that you can walk right up to so let's go and explore as you might have noticed our tour didn't go ahead last night our astronomy tour that's because we've got a message saying that our tour guide wasn't well um so that's definitely something I would say factor into your trip if you come to San Pedro because we've now had a few things changed in us with the weather being crazy we had to delay our valed in a Luna tour and then of course our astronomy tour thankfully we were here for five nights tonight is our last night though and we've always had a crazy early start um but hopefully we can do the astronomy tour tonight the tour guide said it's going to go ahead tonight hopefully we'll have nice clear weather we're going to have to have a little siesta later so that we can stay awake for it but yeah it's our last night let's hope we can do it foreign this little geyser looks like it's sprung up recently and they've just had to put a few rocks around it to make sure that people don't step on it or fall into it might Scorch your foot if you stepped into that [Applause] notice since being here that the gazers seem to have about five or so minutes of generally calm activity and then after that they really boil up for about between 10 and 30 seconds A Little Rock bent here look at this one it's obviously built up and deposited Rock and grown up and up and up get the side of this one that is going definitely getting a bit stinkier now we got closer you can smell the sofa oh cool some of them are so epic [Music] [Music] we've got another mini Giza next to this big geyser just down here got a few rocks around it I just want to see how close I can start to feel the heat from about there and if I go down into the steam yeah you can definitely feel the heat about there whoa that is nice and warm doesn't actually smell really Nature's hand warmer I'll get Kirsty to come and put a hand by this little vent scared look at this one good this one definitely appears to be one of the most active one of the largest geysers here I know in some places they name their geezers so in Yellowstone and in Iceland they have names for all the geezers but I'm not seeing any names here so maybe we'll have to make up our own we already made up a few like seen a few little geezers just seen that bigger Giza it's in the Stumpy Rock geezers really quite a vast area to walk around here as well it's actually quite a nice temperature now the sun's a bit higher in the sky [Music] this Giza looks like it's like otherworldly like it reminds me of Labyrinth or something I don't know why is there anything like this in the film Labyrinth I'm sure there is when I first arrived here I just saw it and thought it just makes me think of that movie is there a scene is that in it or like when they found Godzilla's eggs or something yeah it definitely looks like something out of a movie not real it looks shiny and set up yeah when you come here to El tasio obviously you're here to see the gazers but just look at the surrounding landscape as well that is stunning that mountain and the greenery on the side of the hills and these are the little Tufts of troll hair that we were talking about they look like beautiful green really well grown Tufts of troll hair take a look at all those big boulders and that rock pavement at the top there Hill of green Oak party looking troll hair I don't know what it's called but yeah and even over there you've got like the yellowy mountains whatever they are which is really cool [Music] foreign Jacuzzis geothermal pools that makes me feel so gutted that yeah the bathing pools are closed it'd be nice to go in right now although I think I've had enough of the altitude yeah the altitude is tough it's such a beautiful day now I think the air temperature is around one or maybe two degrees but it's really still and it's a clear blue sky and being near these geothermal pools it's actually quite warm especially with all the layers on October it's left now because they leave at 10 A.M and it's just gone 10 so we should probably start making our way down literally in this entire site it just seems to be us and another couple here and this one here is Super Active and look how foamy it is I think someone's supposed to throw a liquid in this one happens that was absolutely epic seeing El tatio Giza field but it's time to head down now I think we've been at altitude for too long we nearly didn't bother to go and see the second lot because we're not well I'm not feeling too great but I'm really glad that we did definitely recommend seeing the regular geezers and the fairy liquid geezers I don't know which ones I preferred but they were yeah they were cool but yeah it's time to head down to lower altitude now let's go good [Music] just as we thought the scenery is stunning and on the road we can see it now the daylight on the way back and as you can tell it's pretty bumpy but look at the scenery [Music] yeah the journey this morning was a lot more ominous this is amazing still bumpy and a bit crazy but [Music] favorite [Music] I have to come now my Crossing we were both really looking forward to the drive back down and it did not disappoint filled with vast mountainous views with desert and Wildlife all the way along the Route couldn't be more alive compared with this morning's dark and somewhat terrifying drive up there were so many cars and tour buses flying up at speed at 5am it's easy to see how accidents like this one happen as these roads are not the easiest to navigate for us we were thankful to be in our own car taking it at our own pace in both directions the idea of being dragged up on a speeding tourist bus looked really scary and seeing them fly back down seemed like a waste of beautiful scenery we were able to stop and look around the flamingos on the ice and all the other incredible things that we unknowingly drove past on the way up in the Darkness [Music] foreign [Music] we're back at our accommodation and we've just watched the sunset over the Atacama Desert and this evening we are finally gonna go and see some stars on the tour that we were supposed to do and it's a good job because it's our last night here what a way to spend our last night in San Pedro to Atacama Desert I can't wait when in Rome it's one of the main things to do here in San Pedro and even without going out of the town the stars are incredible yeah this is just on the rooftop of our come pick us up just here our car is and then tomorrow we drive our little car back to the airport and then we get a bus to the next place so we're just waiting to get picked up and let's head off and see the stars you see this wow it already looks amazing here we're gonna be sharing a little snack so let's begin sanitizing our hands this is not the original recipe this is my mother a recipe this is my water modification so it's the best in the world okay taste it a little bit more yes please okay let's do it okay and after enjoying some local foods and hearing about the Legends and myths of the Atacama Desert around the campfire we made our way over to this giant telescope where we were given a lesson on how to find Stars and found what we all came to see the clearest view of the Milky Way I'll be honest I thought this part of the trip was going to be average it was Craig who was really excited for stargazing but I'm so glad we did it it was actually one of my highlights here during our visit to the Atacama I found it very moving the peaceful darkness and the incredible clear sky is like nothing we'd ever witnessed before it was definitely worth the wait and we're so glad we got to see it on such a clear night with low Moonlight allowing us to really see the stars we really hope you've enjoyed seeing this fascinating part of the world with us it's been incredible for us to see it and then share it with you all don't forget to give the video a like it makes all the difference to us creators when you do that and drop us a comment below too this is our final video in the Atacama Desert and our final video in Chile so subscribe and join us next week to see which country we head off to next thanks for watching [Music] foreign [Music]
