[Music] a long long time ago in a certain kingdom lived a princess with her parents the princess was intelligent healthy and would have been the pride of her parents but only for this one terrible terrible habit of hers it all began when the princess was about eight years old and that morning she had no wish absolutely none at all to go for her lessons especially since her governess's daughter who studied with her to keep her company was not coming as she was sick i do so want to skip today's lessons but mother and father will never let me stay at home unless i pretend to fall sick too ah yes it is not a lie just a small holiday right sometimes it takes just one moment of weakness to develop a nasty habit for life and this was that moment for the princess she ruled pretended to be sick with a stomachache and the queen and the king rushed to her side oh my poor baby i have to attend my math lesson mother oh no you are not going anywhere see our daughter how sincere and dedicated she is towards her studies i am so proud of you when the princess heard how proud her parents were thinking that she was telling the truth the princess felt terrible she felt like owning up to the truth she tried to tell her parents but mother i no be quiet don't expend energy and talking you need to rest darling no lessons for you for the next three days send a message to the teachers that the princess is ailing and hence will not be able to attend classes for at least three days now i shall bring you the medicine and a soup and then you go to sleep the princess lay in bed feeling not very happy with herself but she was scared of disappointing her mother and hence she said nothing i am sorry mother lying is a huge trap you do it once and then it takes hold of you you lie over and over again till you can't help yourself the same happened to the princess she lied once then a second time and then she lied to get out of everything she was wanting to avoid horse riding lessons meeting her aunt she even lied for getting a new necklace moreover having a servant she did not like removed father look how loose she has done my hair they are already making me look so horrible but i had put in two pins on the bun and you have only one are you saying that i pulled the other pin out of my hair on my own to lie about you to my parents she is the best hairdresser we have darling but i don't like her and i don't want her the princesses lying had reached a stage where it had started hurting other people and you know there is one more secret about lying the person who lies feels ashamed even though they do not show it such a person hates himself or herself and hates everything around and that feels miserable doesn't it the princess too was becoming more and more resentful irritable and unhappy her parents had realized that she had the nasty habit of lying but nothing they said made her stop one day she is going to rule the kingdom how can we have a queen who is so prone to lying and not only does she lie but she has become so unpleasant and grumpy i don't know what to do i shall announce a reward for whosoever cures the princess of her habit of lying so a huge reward of half the kingdom was announced for whosoever cured the princess of her habit of lying in a village in the kingdom there lived peter a woodcutter every day peter would go to the forest but he would never cut a healthy growing tree he would cut only dead logs [Music] one day he looked in the forest all day and not a single dead log did he find well it is all good that every tree i have seen today is growing and healthy but looks like i shall have nothing to sell today look there's a deadlock peter went to the log and examined it he saw a few ants carrying leaves into a hole in the dead wood oh i can't cut this one come on a dead log can be cut buddy but a home cannot be cut those ants have already laid claim to the log i can't take their home away so what are you gonna go further into the forest well it is against my principles to cut a healthy tree and what are principles if they are kept only in times of plenty they must be kept even in times of hardship isn't it peter walked on further into the forest suddenly the sky became dark and thunder rain and lightning lashed the forest peter and the parrot took shelter in a cave when they entered the cave peter heard a strange sound something like water but not quite he went in the direction of the strange [Music] sound he reached a spring that sparkled like the sunlight as soon as he got close a gigantic being of light arose from the depths of the water truth has many forms my friend and being true to your principles even in the face of hardship is one of them you are the only one qualified to cure someone out of a terrible ailment of untruth that is why the thunder and lightning led you here cure whom haven't you heard the princess and future queen of this kingdom must be cured of her terrible disease of lying i heard that but how can i cure her this is the spring of truth take this fill it with the water of the spring and meet the princess if she lies just sprinkle three drops of it on her and say may whatever you say come true only for you for the next three days if by the third time you meet her she still lies then she is incurable but if she speaks the truth then bring her here and make her drink this water but why me um okay because you are a truthful man don't you want to help and cure someone okay i shall do as you say so peter took the bottle and went to the palace now for the princess this whole business of people trying to cure her of the habit of lying was very humiliating and she was determined that she would not meet another such healer hence she lied [Music] your highness the princess says she cannot come because she is very very unwell enough of these lies she will meet this gentleman come with me so peter was taken to the princesses chambers where the princess was pretending to be writhing in pain [Music] what brings this pain to you your highness oh last night i had a terrible terrible dream i dreamt that i was being chased by this big monster in a field of thorns the thorns pricked my feet and hands and face and then the field vanished and i saw myself falling off a huge tall gigantic mountain i was screaming and my body was headed towards a river of molten lava my head was a whirl wouldn't you have a headache if you had such a dream i indeed would your highness saying this peter pulled out the bottle and sprinkled three drops on the princess and muttered under his breath me whatever you say come true only for you in the next three days and that is what happened for the next three days the princess actually lived the terrible dream she had lied about on the fourth day she really did have a terrible headache but people around her her parents included had stopped believing her a long time back everybody thought that she was feigning the pain peter returned to meet her but the princess was even more humiliated she didn't want to tell peter that she had actually had the dream she had lied to him about so she told another lie i cannot speak with you because i am in terrible pain and what has caused this pain to you your highness i fell off the horse and fractured my foot and i have been hobbling on crutches for the last three days and the pain is only increasing dismayed at the lie peter once again removed the bottle and sprinkled the magical water on the princess may whatever you say come true only for you in the next three days and once again that is what happened the princess fell off the horse and broke her foot but since whatever she said was true only for her nobody else noticed her broken foot the swelling and the injury they all thought that she was lying again father ouch it hurts so much to walk i don't believe you anymore all the lengths you can go to to lie mother at least you what have you become mother mother and that was the day the princess really thought of the first time she had lied and how her mother had fussed over her oh my poor baby oh no you are not going anywhere see our daughter how sincere and dedicated she is towards her studies i am so proud of you and of all the other times yet today when she needed the care and love of her parents the most they just wouldn't believe her even when she cried in agony and hobbled on crutches and that is when the princess realized oh my what have i become the next day peter returned to the palace if today she didn't speak the truth the princess was incurable half afraid peter entered the princess's chambers you seem to be in pain have you been crying does it matter you will not believe me anyway and you shouldn't either tell me what ails you your highness my heart heals me i have lied so much that no one trusts me not even my doting mother and my loving father even i don't trust myself anymore at last you have spoken the truth your highness it is too late nobody loves me anymore and they shouldn't i deserve this [Music] despair not your highness now you will be cured so peter took the princess to the spring of truth and when she sipped its magical waters she was cured forever of the urge to lie of course the people in the palace did not trust her immediately for once lost trust takes a long long time to rebuild itself the princess owned up to all her lies and begged for forgiveness from her parents her teachers her staff and then when they saw that she no longer uttered a lie even if it caused her to do the things she hated slowly people began trusting her she began ruling the kingdom happily with truth fairness and compassion for a long long time peter was one of her ministers and both of them became great friends
