so i have to show you guys this project i've been working on this bolt fell out from underneath this 7405 fell out of the power quad transmission and then i had an oil leak about pencil thick kind of a bizarre thing so i went to john deere and i said what's this bolt do and he said it kind of holds some kind of clutch place there's two of them like that got a little brass washer that goes with it i did find a bolt because i just happened to be out on the road when it happened standing there and i took off and there i had oil so anyway we switched up tractors to finish that day off but no so there's that much of that bolt stuck up inside that transmission the real situation is it's not really a problem yet but it's kind of starting to look like one is to get that rest of that bolt out of there so i can stick the new bolt back in so i tried a bunch of these drilling having one of these get-outs i think some of you guys know where you kind of can unturn it that way but i'm so scared i'm gonna end up ruining my thread so i'm under here now first of all i had to let all my oil out which are 17 gallons of oil in there so i tried to salvage that because we kind of just finished well i just changed it like a year ago so i don't believe that oil would be bad but anyway but there must be about 45 bolts in there that i pulled out now i got oil dripping it's like it's raining oil i just found the last bolt and my god you got to really look they're on every little crevice there's three different lengths and it's almost like i have to draw a map to know every every bolt goes back in and i don't want to have to take it into john deere they're over two weeks out right now to get to it and i imagine it would cost a fortune that be the last resort so we took the this here shaft goes to the front end that drives my front wheel drive and i got all those bolts out and i'm about to drop this thing down to get closer to that bolt that's stuck in that hole in there and it's right in this hole right here is where the problem is and it's got a little washer on like this one this will just happen to be stuck on there so i left it there so i know where it goes and only two of them have that washer even though oil came dripping out of several different holes as i was taking this off anyway something i've never been into ever before in my life i took a lot of stuff apart but nothing nothing of this but i feel like um maybe in the long run it's still going to be cheaper even if i screw something up here in the meantime i'll check back within you guys a little bit i'm going to pull that cover off and i got a feeling i'll be rained on with oil and hopefully i don't break something and or rip the gasket or well which i could probably get a different one but still anyway we're gonna let you guys go we got it off we found one last bolt another half a million bolts i pulled out of there and i think this lever here and here's what does our shifting anyway i gotta get working on getting that broken bolt out of there looks like my gasket looks really good i gotta take it look at this oh look at the maze on there that is just insane when all those little trails bring oil to other things i've been kind of procrastinating this project for a couple of weeks now but it's got to get done so i'm going to work on that bolt i got to go milk cows pretty soon too so but i don't want to have to sleep on this one another night i want to get this done so i can say okay that works we got that out of the way you don't have to worry about see you guys in a while two days went by and i couldn't get that bolt that was broke off out of there for nothing i used these these get outs different sizes drilling a hole i didn't want to get too crazy because of the ruining the thread you know or breaking it off in there and that would be worse now i called john deere and i talked to a service manager and he seemed pretty good about things he knew about these power quad transmissions pretty good and he told me it's probably going to be about 85 to 9 000 to get this thing split to get that bolt out of there if i can't get it out through this little hole so after an awful lot of thought here it is all i needed to do is get that out which then it's just the price of a bolt or nine to ten thousand dollars so i thought well what the heck even if i ruined something up in there they gotta rip it all apart anyway you know you start weighing the difference in the price so now i got that out and you can see how i drilled i drilled in two different spots and i was concerned that i hurt the thread i got this old screwdriver i don't even i don't even know i mean it's made to be pounded on in the end but it probably came with some piece of horse machinery the way it looks but you see how i cut a notch in the end so i had two holes both were off-center so first of all took one of these punches which is designed to punch out roll pins and then i sharpened it up and kept cooling it so it would stay so the temperament would stay good trying to make a set so i could drill through the center of the bolt and then use one of these get outs and i've got a whole bunch of different size of these guys basically that's designed to get a bolt that's broke off out but that was not working i was feeling like i was just gonna crank it off and it was gonna break off in there so today it took me about an hour to stew on this and figure this out i had to file him down right here or grind him down and then i got that pointed that i tried to make a groove in there after drilling those two little holes into that bolt but that didn't work then i cut this little notch and two minutes later voila so persistence and patience and got a brother mechanic even said take your time think about it a little bit don't just get rammy with these things now the next steps gonna be to get this all back together i'm gonna try do it without replacing the gasket even if it would happen to leak a little bit later on i could i'm sure it won't be nothing terrible but it could get a little messier than it was or it could be fine i don't know i didn't take it off of there it looks really good i mean i could always take that back off and replace the gasket so right here i had this whole thing covered up and the wind's been blowing in here and it's getting a little dusty blowing around so i covered it but i got that guy i think i gotta make sure that my my pieces here somehow line up in there correctly and into these things so i'm gonna have to really look that over before we get that up there and then there's one other thing and i found this here on the floor see this little button here that is just a pin that's pushed up in there and there's supposed to be another one i believe i think it's this hole right here or which i probably could put it together without it but we're gonna it didn't run off i know that so it's probably here stuck to the floor someplace under what i'm laying on or whatever then kind of making my whole week this thing so stand by okay we're in the process of putting this thing back together i got a little grease on the end of this guy to slip them into this o-ring i'm just gonna check in with you guys for a minute before i keep going here i had one of my boys help me put this this all up in here and i believe that's aluminum it didn't feel that heavy but there's about 800 bolts in there i just got them all snugged down i got to put these two caps back in i got to put that wire back on there and then i got to put that thing i was just showing you into that hole and of course drive line here those three buckets of oil got to get dumped back in because that's i that's pretty clean oil that's just changed about a year ago and i ain't got that many hours on it yet so we kept it clean i think we're gonna be good there so anyway and then we will drive it okay i got him in there and i'm learning a little bit here i use this here and there's like this little groove right there stick that up in there and force him into there's like a big o ring in back and behind there but he kind of squashes in there went together quite well a little bit of a struggle but made sense so we're gonna keep going okay we just got done putting our oil back in time to do the test and see if we did this right we're not going to put the drive shaft for the front wheel on just yet i want to make sure everything's working right before we do that then we're going to have to clean this thing up and we got just about every tool in the book of some kind or another drag down with all my drill bits i've been going through those anyway you gotta do what you gotta do to get it fixed so we're gonna set this thing so you guys can see what's going on here [Music] okay we got something right here not sure yet but that just might be a problem or a situation i might have to take something back apart again to get that part in lined up correctly hopefully that's not the problem okay bring you guys up here with me see power quad council that's part might not be an issue it feels like it's okay indents and then still there goes the park okay we got one two one two three four seems like that's okay and i think this this part our ranges are in the back half we never had nothing apart there so i'm thinking we're good say a short prayer and see if we can [Applause] because it's using it up in side places usually you check that when it's standing still not running [Applause] so appears that everything i took apart is not leaking yet now we got this one spot here on the floor but i think it's from when i filled let's drip it off the frame so very complex unit and the funny thing is this tractor's a 98 24 years old i don't even want to think about what's inside some of them new ones but okay so we're going to finish this thing and and then i guess the real test is going to be doing stuff out in the field with it and then checking for leaks i might have to go through after things warm up really good and snug all these bolts again maybe see if we notice a little bit more wetness around them but i can live with that we could put a new gasket in another time if it's dripping a little like gets really wet with oil more than i care to see i don't want to have to add oil every day we got a little bit of tolerance to that it's an old tractor it's going to have some of that all right see you guys later
