this video is sponsored by nordvpn more details to come so recently i reacted to a list from the youtube channel watchmojo.com where they claimed the 10 hardest possible rock songs to play on the guitar and i had some quibbles with that list and well now they are at it again the top 10 easiest famous songs to play on the guitar there's always some stipulations but i usually tend to disagree slightly but not as much as the comments section on these videos watchmojo knows less than my dog about guitars well i actually have a tone hound so had i made that comment it actually wouldn't be that big of an insult so basically the songs you shouldn't play in a guitar store [Music] here's the thing these lists are constructed by primarily non-guitarists at least not guitar aficionados like you and i i think the issue that most guitar players may take with watch mojo videos addressing guitar songs that are easy or hard to play is the 2013 buzzfeed style delivery phrases like flex your musical prowess and uh one thing i will mention about this list in particular the easiest songs just because you can play the main riff doesn't mean you can play the song without further ado let's get into the top 10 easiest famous songs to play on the guitar according to people who don't play the guitar brought your hot cross bun sheet music and turn the amplifier to 11 because you don't need to be the next jimi hendrix to shred on these tunes ugh i mean a guitar player didn't write that yeah number 10 tnt ac dc with an electric guitar with the distortion turned all the way up with enough practice you may just be able to whoa whoa whoa whoa distortion turned all the way up ac dc barely used any distortion that was the whole thing about their tone misleading watch mojo don't tell the kids to turn their gain all the way up you know when e power chord an a power chord and a g note the intro riff can be effortlessly replicated that is pretty easy but it's saying you just need to know an a power chord and e power chord and a g note you're leaving out the very beginning intro i mean that's what i would consider tnt is there a better intro than 10 spot actually seems fair but you gotta have the solo too uh anyway i would give this one a pass 10 seems reasonable number 9 knocking on heaven's door bob dylan this song has been successfully covered on several [Music] occasions [Music] the first chords you learn pretty much you know and one of the first strumming patterns i don't know exactly how the strumming pattern goes in the original but a basic strumming pattern like that works on your chord switching this is definitely deserving to be on the list it's more beneficial i think to learn in the beginning stage just build that finger strength and dexterity number eight smells like teen spirit nirvana for those just starting out power chords are very easy to learn but take time to watch mojo coming in off the top rope power chords are easy to learn for those just starting out i beg to differ just look at my wife learning power chords for the first time finger on the third bird what yeah next string down keep that first finger up there though oh my god and the thing about power chords is yeah they're easy to remember i suppose the shape you know the formula but moving that and maintaining the distance between your fingers that's where people always get slipped up they'll start like this when they want to move up here it'll kind of close the gap so power chords are not easy to learn it's hard to play this one accurately you know most kids when they start they're going to play like this that's also part of the reason i don't think this is necessarily the easiest nirvana song even because of all these extra strings that are going to ring [Music] does it sound right i don't yes as long as you have a thumb pointer and ring finger you will be able to play a whole array of rocks wait wait wait what do you need a thumb for with power chords are they telling me to play with my thumb that is way harder watch mode what am i doing with my thumb with power chords number seven wonderwall oasis ever go to a house party in the early 2000s did someone break out an acoustic guitar at some point odds are this was one of the songs they performed ah watch mojo getting in on the meme yeah this is definitely one of the easiest famous songs to play on the guitar i actually put it on my list of the songs that everybody always asks you to play and that is definitely a list that is geared toward beginners extremely valuable picking pattern strumming pattern i should say and it's sounds good that's why everybody always wants to play it it sounds awesome especially on an acoustic guitar it's just a very fun riff there's a lot of open strings not a lot of potential for mistakes there with open strings finger position you know you're going to use a capo but the finger position is such where you never have to move these two fingers and then the picking pattern but i will say again this is kind of going against the title because there's this part of the song too hey guys quick break to talk about our sponsor nordvpn right now you can get a huge discount on a two-year subscription to nordvpn if you go to nordvpn.com music is when and if you use my code music is when you can get an extra month for free now spoiler alert that's not really a spoiler the second song on our list that we're going to get to is seven nation army i think it should be number one but the reason it's number two is because much mojo thinks part of the song was played on a bass and it wasn't played on a bass and you know how i know that well thanks to nordvpn i found the documentary i was looking for there's a documentary out there called it might get loud featuring jack white jimmy page and the edge from youtube and i hadn't seen it in such a long time and i wanted to pull it up because i knew that jack white explained how seven nation army went verbatim but i couldn't find it on netflix or hbo or any of the streaming services that i paid and i didn't want to buy the movie just to find this one part but the cool thing about nordvpn which if you don't know vpn stands for virtual private network i can make it so my internet connection appears to be in many different geographical locations in the world and as you know the american netflix titles are different from the uk netflix titles everybody has different rules and different movies available depending on where you live so with nordvpn i can make it appear just like i'm in the uk which happens to be where it might get loud documentary was available that opened the song it's uh just an octave down there okay the whammy pedal octave down and then see the nord vpn servers are super fast and you can have up to six connections so you can have it on your iphone your computer your laptop your tablet so stop letting other people peer into what it is you're doing on the internet take control of your internet again go to nordvpn.com music is win to get a huge discount on a two-year plan of nordvpn and when you use my code music is win you'll get an extra month for free thank you so much to nordvpn for sponsoring today's video now let's get back to the list of the top 10 easiest famous songs to play on the guitar according to uh non-guitar players number six good riddance time of your life green day no this might actually be the hardest green day song if you prefer to play just like billy joe armstrong it will require a five part picking sequence with each chord but it sounds a lot harder than it is so why is it on the easiest famous songs to play on the guitar list why wouldn't you put brain stew [Music] that's gonna be your power chord song as well going back to the nirvana thing good riddance has like all those little nuances [Music] let's move along number five house of the rising sun the animals okay i've never really heard this song i mean house of the rising sun is one of the oldest songs in existence and the last time i had never heard a song on a watch mojo list and then attempted to play it i was met with severe criticism it was actually a smith song called what was it called it was such a nothing song oh this charming man anyway i took three minutes and learned it 99 and there were a lot of people who said i didn't play it correctly sorry i didn't take an extra 13 seconds to play it 100 correctly this band kind of has the same vibe kind of like uh i've never heard you and there's probably a reason why oldest entry on our list is recognizable by people of all ages and admittedly probably the most challenging on our list after hearing it for that 12 seconds oh yeah that if i can't play it right away it's not easy let me see if i'm doing it right i'm just gonna watch this guy's hand of all ages and admit it oh i think i'm making it harder [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh that technique is far beyond the beginner phase i'm not even gonna entertain what they have to say about this number four zombie the cranberries does this chord progression sound familiar that's because these four chords of awesome lay claim to countless famous songs not the least of which is the perpetually catchy zombie chorus and they're just saying to relatively easy chords open up the possibility of playing eminem's not afraid and one republics apologize to name a few okay so they're saying to learn a chord progression and that covers a million songs so that's this kind of a cop-out right this isn't an actual song this is just a million songs i mean i wouldn't say that's like a a super popular this f sharp over g i would say the one minor to the flat six to the flat three and then the flat seven not the flat three over two i mean it's a great chord progression but um yeah not the first one i would teach number three iron man black sabbath no no [Music] whatever way you want to play that it's not easy keeping the distance uh as nuanced and perfect between that little half step the use of power chords requires just your pointer and ring fingers wait no thumb this time i would much prefer they learn that's the black sabbath song you want to learn unless you know you're going to learn look i can't even play the intro to iron man it's so hard two seven nation army the white stripes using a base for the verse portions of the song an electric guitar enters into the equation during the chorus uh fun fact there were no basses on this song jack white just used a digi tech whammy pedal and put it down an octave and played it on his guitar sorry to be a snob about it but it's true but yeah definitely uh anywhere you play that riff it's an absolute must know i would put this number one above what i'm sure is going to be smoke on the water let's just find out number one smoke on the water yes um so here's the thing about smoke on the water seven nation army should be number one smoke on the water it's actually not an easy song like yeah everyone plays that opening riff which i'm not going to play because it's been muted on my channel before nobody ever gets past the zero three five there's more to smoke on the water than zero three five you realize this don't you have you heard the guitar solo i mean despite richie blackmore's absolutely terrible take on any sort of technical guitar playing he was a rock god and he crafted some amazing guitar solos this being one of them but nobody ever really talks about the smoke on the water guitar solo they just kind of say zero three five and i'm about to blow your mind here but uh all things being equal and the e string being king that is not the key of smoke on the water the key of smoke on the water g is so as a result the meme should not be 0 3 5 it should be 3 6 8. trolls everywhere have just had their worlds flipped on their heads their minds had been blown their eyeballs exploded from their skulls i'm sorry to have ruined your day your week your month your life with fact truth and brutal honesty the meme is three six eight let it be written i am the king i have spoken good night let me know in the comments if you have a contribution to make to the top 10 easiest famous songs to play on the guitar and i'll see in the next video but until then [Music] you
