Nice, but its not a positive seal, so it has limited utility.
If you tried to have a valve like that in those water pumps, as the video suggests, the pumps would be virtually impossible to prime by hand, because you have to draw the air out before you'll get water, and a water pump can not move air very efficiently.
Once primed, it may work, but will be inefficient, likely enough to not be worth the minor gains in maintenance you'd get.

Dude, it's Nikola not Nikolai, he was Serbian and not Russian.
...which explains why every single gas or fluid one-way(check valve) valve in existence utilizes a spring and a ball bearing. Sometimes having 1 or 2 moving parts and being cheap to manufacture is way better then a clever design that takes a CNC machine to create and utilizes a long, flat gasket.
If we had a three-way valve.
