that dragon that was a tough one if i didn't have this shield with me i would have been toast and look i know i can use a two handed sword and shoe at the same time with a strap but i didn't have the strap and it was really difficult i mean if certainly there was a way that i could combine the uses of both do just that combine the power of the sword and shield together gandalf is that you because if it is you i really could have used your help without fighting that dragon a bit late a wizard is [Applause] yeah right fine but look i can't combine the sword and the shield in one do not take me for some conjurer i'm not by the power of the shadowings by the power of the shadows it works shield and sword combined it's the sword shield the shield sword or [Music] the sword [Music] shadow you're gonna have to hear me out i admit that uh it is a obviously over-the-top fantasy weapon but in the realms of over-the-top fantasy weapons if you're strong enough or it's made out of light enough material i think it'd actually be pretty cool i'm gonna show you things that i think you could do with it in fact this is such a cool weapon and being made out of magic material it's fairly light i might add it to my wares i'm actually a sword merchant as well as an adventurer and uh it might be at a certain adventure you might be anxious in this because it's actually a pretty cool sword and now let's get back to the subject of this video which is this big thing um let me let me talk to you about why this could be such a cool fantasy weapon hey oh oh oh before you before i go can i can i buy how many gold coins for these enchanting weapons oh uh no they're garbage you can have them free yeah i'm embarrassed that they're not even there okay he's gonna hurt himself using those things so the sword shield shield sword and i think it's a sword before it's a shield which means it's a shield sword but schward as a good friend of the channel would say let me show you its features in all seriousness why have i created this monstrosity well i got inspired to this idea when watching scarlet grim skullgrim has done a new video looking at cloud's buster sword and in that video he mentioned that one of the utilities of cloud sword that you could use it for is as a shield and that idea has been brought up before i've heard it before i've even considered before and for myself i've always thought that honestly clowns busted sure to be too thin to act as a proper shield now what's interesting in the final fantasy 7 remake cloud actually does use the buster sword to block projectiles now and when i watch those sometimes it's using swords that are not wide enough to actually function as a shield and if you were to hold it out in front of you for the area of courage you get you have massive areas that are completely wide open and you'll get blown apart and so it got me thinking okay the swords cloud is using final fantasy vii and even the buster sword are not wide enough to actually function as a shield but could you make one that did that's where i decided to uh see if you could put something together i don't know has anyone ever done this this is this is like a sword that you'd see in monster hunter or something like that of course the issue that would arise with such a weapon is its size and i've already addressed the realities of weapons of this size in other videos and sorry skelogram which has also revisited it and the conclusion is the sort of need to be made out of a uniquely light material or you would need to be particularly super strong and i think you need some way to ground yourself to not get thrown off balance but that's actually worth a further discussion so maybe in another video if you could use it so for instance if there was a metal really strong metal that you could make that was as heavy as wood and so the actual weapon would weigh as much as this one i'm holding right here it would be unwieldy okay but you could still use it as a sword all right it would be hard and the thing is i'm not swinging it far like fast but if i was a lot stronger i could swing it faster and the other thing is this has a lot of momentum and mass in it or should i say is momentum is still great because of its greater mass the velocity is lower but momentum is a combination of velocity and mass and if the velocity goes down but the mass is up well that can counteract it to still get a lot of big power and the other thing that this gives you is leverage okay because it's so long all right you would actually still be able to do some pretty powerful strikes so that's just regarding you know large standard swords the feature about this is the capacity to block all right so question how much can you see of myself when i go to actually guard myself like this it covers a good deal and so part of the um design philosophy was to make this wide enough to actually give a good amount of protection and this is as wide as some historical shields were but of course you as the discerning viewers you are i'm sure you'll have noticed the additional designed feature that i've added to this weapon and that is an actual handhold at a more convenient spot to guard yourself with this sword as using it as a shield because one of the problems if they weren't here the way to block yourself is you're always going to be leaving a decent portion of yourself open or you have to put yourself at a really awkward angle so you can block like this but my lower half is you know vulnerable and if i block like this maybe but it's really awkward to hold and my hands are even still vulnerable and so i really feel if you were wanting to use a sword that was wide enough to actually be able to block on the flat with it why not just add you know two hand holds now this actually has historical precedent because side rings have been put on swords where they put this low down on swords no they'll put closer up to the cross guard but when you're dealing with a sword this big you can put things lower down the blade in fact we've seen this on real historical swords great swords specifically have flanges or lugs that are further down the blade because the blade is so long that it's not actually going to inhibit where the the main area in which you cut so you can absolutely have things lower down on the blade and with this design i've made it side rings essentially that actually also function as handholds in reality they're just hand holds they're not really side rings because they wouldn't give you too much additional protection on your hands but it still adds a slight element of validity to the design and then with that you can actually block with it and get proper coverage like and you can get full rotation opening and closing your guard and then you actually have more leverage to do some really interesting so say you're blocking like this and then you want to go and do a big cut and then you want to go back and then you could actually use the handholds as a new point of leverage to attack and so you could be blocking and then going up for a thing and you can still slash without holding on this hand and then you can swing it up down like so this design actually has a surprising level of versatility to it it's not to say this would be a particularly convenient weapon but in a lot of you know fantasies and stuff people just ignore the everyday problems that would honestly exist with a weapon like this um like carrying it around like where does sephiroth put his sword and how does he walk around with it or they're able to summon it and so if they're if you're able to summon such weapons fire perfectly well and if you could you know there's probably a way especially with the handhold that you could hook it on your back and carry it more conveniently there so granted there are some things that you just need to take a leap with in fact there's a lot of things because again this is a ridiculous weapon but i like to explore what viability certain ridiculous weapons have and there are some weapons that you know it's interesting like i it breaks my realism when i see someone trying to block projectiles with a thin giant sword and i don't get hung up on the fact that they're using a giant sword in the first place because you can suspend your disbelief to some things like super strength super light material whatever but then there are some blatant things where just you know by the laws of probability and physics that if you're going to be blocking something thin chances are bullets should hit you and it's funny how that is actually a far greater thing to try and suspend your disbelief on than other things because if you're establishing the universe that super strength exists that's fine but the other thing that universes usually establish is that basic laws of physics work like if you're only blocking you know twenty percent forty percent of your body with a with a you know some type of shield the rest of your body is open all right and you would assume basic probability things would usually work like that but it's just interesting when you look at levels of suspension of disbelief and how one of those exists for me now so i've already mentioned that you could get away with using a weapon like this if it was a super light or super strong but there are other interesting applications you might get away with a weapon that has this type of design because it's uniquely wide specifically so you can get the blocking capacity out of the shield function kind of looks like a surfboardy thing and it makes me wonder like if we're really if we're going all ham right all full on fantasy and sometimes it's fun to do it and i think monster hunter weapons are a bit like this is this is in the realm of like monster hunter weapons just over the top ridiculous what there are some weapons that are so ridiculous i don't even i can't even get on board with and i think it was the um the shield and saw that turns into an axing the charge blade i just that one i don't know i don't think you know why does i have an issue with that and all not the other bull crap i don't know okay say we're going all ham right you wouldn't be out of i'm not saying you could surf with it but if you incorporated other certain fantasy elements there is something you might be able to do for instance what if as part of the enchantment or technology that had on this that you could actually control its position in space a bit directed by your will or where you want it to go but you need to be touching it for that to work and so one of the ways you could pretend that this weight as much as a real you know thing but you can direct its position in space because you actually can control its gravitational spatial position or something through technology or magic this actually means it would be able to levitate and fly right be but you would need to main hold like the limitation would be you have to keep hold of it to be able to direct it like that so if this could fly it could do like really interesting is where you do this big swing up thing and then you direct the sword to lift yourself into the air and you can do these massive hits okay and so actually the fantasy application or interpretation or representation the visualization of this thing could end up looking awesome if you could control such a large sword in space through will but physical contact so what that would mean then you you could get it to fly you just need to hold on to it but holding on to this you get really tired and so if you could get it to fly while remaining physical contact what would be the best way to fly with it cowabunga baby see like you're touching you've got the physical you would want to stand on it because that would give the ability like enable you to maintain such a position for the longest period of time and so you could actually ride it like a flying skateboard surfboard thing and you could make it look pretty cool i reckon now as i wrap up this video this is a fun dumb idea that i thought that would make a really cool over-the-top fantasy weapon that i haven't seen before i'm not copyrighting this okay if you really like the idea look some of you might think it's dumb which i can believe there's a lot of stupidity involved in it but this is about going full hand there's a full hand fantasy over the top weapon that i actually think could end up looking really cool there's a lot of rule of cool that might justify a lot of the stupidity with this right and so if you like it you actually like it and you wanted to use something go ahead okay i released the idea this weapon concept to the world the uh the shield sword or schward schwartz sounds goofy ass i don't know um but actually so when i say design like have hand holds lower down on the blade so i'd actually block like a shield wide enough to be a shield but also having this thing and it's still pretty versatile as a sword like you can you still got a lot of the motions that you can maintain and if it was just light enough and then you've got this extra point of leverage right and then you just block with a shield you're taking the hit you're running for and you push them aside you can't do it for a hit then you can come in for another block like yeah i think
