hey all you cool cats and kittens Shawn Daniel here with another guitar lesson today we're learning a very interesting way to kind of maybe get into playing different chord voicings and scales and incorporate them in a musical way that is a super quick super easy way easier than killing your husband getting away with it and we're starting with just a really easy loop in the people's key the key of D is it's gonna be like if need be minor we're gonna do over this you sound like this [Music] [Music] all right so I am using an MSR clone looper if you don't have a looper pedal you need to get one Bilu pedal is not actually essential for this but I will link you because I think it's a super cost-effective one that just does the trick all right so what we're doing here is we're taking notes in the key of D and then we're adding another note to each of those single notes right maybe you can call these double stops dyads however you want to look at it but I think it's a great way to navigate through the fret board alright so first of all we have to find a D root note the fifth fret on the a string this is where we're starting there's gonna be home base for everything we do alright now we want to learn all the other notes in this key this very easy way to do this we can just make this one shape where it goes five seven nine again I think doing a three fret first string kind of deal the star is a good way to start if this is too much of a reach just follow the dots on your fret board five seven nine same thing on the D string five seven nine so we've got five seven nine five seven nine we're gonna continue on the D string to 11 and then 12 alright so these are all the notes in the D major scale played one at a time now we can do one quick simple easy thing to add to each of these notes and make it something like this okay and that's the only thing that I was playing over that loop no what we're doing is we're adding either a major third or a minor third to every single one of these notes right so again what I mean by that is there's a root note this is gonna be where the chord comes from again so this is gonna be kind of indicative of a D major we don't even have to think of it this way just think of like I I mean the key D this is you know I'm starting with and then down a string diagonal back one so from 5-8 to 4d this is gonna be our major Shea all right now even though this isn't a full major chord it's the root note and what it's called this major third if you play the major scale like that those are that she knows you need let this be a D and an f-sharp but anytime you have a root note rooted on the a string or the E string or the D string you can do this move to make it a major kind of cork a little piece of a chord right now a minor third is the exact same thing just one fret back okay so D major D minor might be easy to play like ring finger and pointer finger like that so the first thing we're gonna do is gonna take these three notes on the a string and return to this major minor minor okay so I've got five eight and forty now I've got seven eight and five feet nine a seven alright so now I'll loop that we can just kind of play over this loop and again that loop was just a D minor chord a B minor chord and a G major 7 chord right just like that I can start playing over this with just these three pieces [Music] and it kind of sounds like I'm sold [Music] right there's a lot you can do with just these so it's a great thing to start getting comfortable with but it's just tracking along a string again I think looper pedal is really important if you don't have them to worry about it also for the next five days I'm putting a how to jam with confidence masterclass on sale super cheap is cheap as it has ever been me and my buddy Ian just kind of going over a lot of stuff like this how to solo and just jam with the backing track with another person it's cool because it has a lot of backing tracks built into it so if you don't have a loop or something definitely check that because weights you for the loop pedal via and you have like hours of backing tracks right so check that out in the description but we've got these verse three spots major minor minor think of that one two three one is major to is minor 3 is minor now we're gonna move on to the next string okay so remember even though our root notes are the same 5 7 9 the pattern is gonna be major major minor ok so we think 1 2 3 4 5 6 4 5 are gonna be major 6 is gonna be minor alright so again the 4th or in the key of D d e f sharp G we have a G G major this is indicative a little piece of a G major chord right same thing is here there's an octave higher okay so five deep for G to get to an a major 76 G to get to B minor we go 90 and 70 so not only is this just a way that you can kind of play through it's called a chord scale these are also replacements for maybe more difficult cause if you're having trouble playing like a full B minor chord and you notice play if you minded like this now you might lose a little bit of volume but this is a spot that you can always go all right now we're gonna continue on remember the seventh note the 11th fret on the d-string in this we can make this another minor piece no technically this doesn't become a minor chord this is gonna be the diminished piece of a scale but as far as this exercise goes we just use a root note it's minor third and that brings us back to D which is a twelfth rava D string and then we have that major shape again so yeah it was just two shapes shape number one is gonna be the major shape shape number two is gonna be the minor shape with its called a flat third just move that back one so it's gonna be major minor minor major major minor minor back home major and then over that loop is really [Music] sometimes we'll screw it up [Music] you can continue forth farther again that's a say in that route now the same thing goes on the whole staff minor minor major major minor I think the most important thing that's the most important thing that for me learning just musically was going one two three four five six seven those notes in any scale no matter where you are and then being like major chord minor chord minor chord major chord major chord minor chord diminished chord hone all right so again all this stuff is movable like I said this is just keep D key of C it let's just find a C on a string boom right here okay so again this just like a piece of a regular C major chord but make it a CE you don't even have to know the notes the names of the notes in here you just know this is the pattern three five seven three five seven step half step one doesn't matter what key you're in this is always gonna work right and then again you can run this into may be more complicated scale shapes like another thing like let's go back to the key D alright something that I stressed in a lot of videos is knowing where the relative minor of any key is the relative minor of D is move back three frets B minor that's my B minor always sounds good in the key of D the sixth chord essentially is what it is and also that's where the minor scale exists in the minor scale is kind of like the guitar player utopia where you just kind of rip stuff off risers the B minor scale shape alright so I have the loop playing I'm gonna run these board shapes into a scale shape and again this B minor position is something I'm very comfortable with right and a tiny thing if you want to so let's try to get to this spot from up here [Music] now back here so I think it's kind of like to know boards are really a great way to kind of navigate through the fret board because again they always it link up really nicely to each other it just has nice kind of sweet sound to it and again sounds great on a strap it sounds great I have some with humbuckers it's always good so again one super simple scale shape add a different note double stop through it and make these dyads again the whatever you want to call them is fine it's really just kind of like seeing the Fed board different way thanks for checking it out if you guys have any questions or comments hit me up in the comment section Twitter Instagram the website make sure to check that class out because that coupon only works for the next five days before after make another one and again I will talk to you all soon thanks a lot
