all right today's the day we're going to do we're going to fix Gibson's biggest problem now what is the biggest problem you might ask well there could be varying answers for that but I'm going to talk about the tuning a lot of times Gibsons are notorious for their tuning issues particularly the three over3 headstock design now I haven't had a lot of these issues but I do have something that solves that for you I made a video about this years ago didn't do a good job of it so I want to kind of remake it and make it better cuz there's an easy free way you don't need any kind of gadgets or you're not adding anything that's all about the way you string up your guitar and this helps your tuning stability a ton so check it out now this string up technique that I'm going to show you is something that a buddy of mine Dereck showed me a long time ago that a Road Tech showed him to keep his Gibson better in tune so if you have this issue with the G Coming Out Of Tune or the B uh try this and it's probably going to help it's all about the way you wind the string in the peg so my BB junor started going out of tune it was still Factory wound which they wind down which you'll see here in a second and I want it to wind up so cut to the closeup I'll show you exactly what to do all right so here's my Les paa Junior now look at the way that these strings come out of the factory this is how a lot of people tend to wind their strings if you're doing a three over three headstock I recommend at least on the G and maybe the B change this you can see how the string is coming out of the bottom of the peg here so when you wind it they're they're winding down to where this break angle is right here but what we want to do is change it to where the string is up top giving us a little bit of a different Brak angle let me show you my go top Okay so we've got the gold top here and right away hopefully you can tell look at that notice how I have the string wound up not down that's the whole thing right there this changes the brake angle just enough to where it will hold tune better I'm telling you there's been so many people who have commented on my last video and said this has helped this has always worked for me there's no attachments needed nothing just wind your string to where it's at the top of the tuning peg not at the bottom like I said I do this on my b string as well on this particular guitar um on some guitars I don't some guitars I do and you can see here on the D look it's at the bottom the a is at the bottom E is at the bottom just on the g&b on this one is the only one that I wind up to the top so let me show you that all right so let's put this puppy on [Music] here [Music] now if you look here I'm winding above where the string went in there that way I'm going to have that nice brake angle that I want uh instead of winding below where you put the string in like you normally would so it it's a little bit more of annoying cuz this thing the leftover string is just kind of in your way the whole time but it's uh it's worth it at the end all right so not the prettiest looking one by any means like I said I was using my opposite hands for the camera and um um but you can see how it ended up up top and that is exactly what we wanted you can see this one over here is down this one's up top so just give it a try and just like that we are all tuned up now part of the issue with this particular guitar was the strings are old I've had this for over a year same Factory strings on it so you know it it was staying in tune fine before but I figured this was a great opportunity to demonstrate it to you guys and honestly it's only ever made guitars better if you look at any of my 3 over3 Gibsons the gold top the km all that stuff I wind the strings up like that and it helps a bunch even on the previous video there were tons of you guys who said you were skeptical that this was ever going to work and you tried it and it did help and I'm telling you it's it's as simple as that you don't have to do a lot you can do other things too add a little graph graphite into the nut do all these little things too but this is just a simple way that I just have never seen anyone else talk about doing this so the only thing left to do take your freshly strung up guitar now in tune and play it so I'll see you guys on next time end it bluesy lord of the ring style [Music] [Music] what
