The ROYAL HAWAIIAN ESTATES Open House Tour! Modernism Week 2024 in Palm Springs, CA!

[Music] all right welcome party people to another episode of inside the Desert Oasis room today on a field trip for the Royal Hawaiian Estates home tour during modernism week out here in Palm Springs check out the grounds here it's beautiful we are across the backside of the C anti Tropics Resort and we're going to walk through I think there's 14 residences here today that we're going to get to tour and we're going to take you along with this so you ready for this all right let's go [Music] all right we're going to start at 2011 let's take a look here all right very nice hi Aloha welcome thank you Aloha that's what I should okay are you from Hawaii uh sometimes okay wow what a beautiful home thank you very nice thank very much all right right our TV room [Music] [Music] it's a restroom check out this medicine cabinet where it comes across like right here I remember seeing this when I was growing up in some of the homes that I visited as a child come here are wonderful bedrooms very nice like the bamboo wallpaper all right look at this okay Elvis the oil lamp Elvis now that's cool quite no worries some tiis in here Tiki mugs and check out this dining set a matchy matching even the napkins even the napkins match wow that's pretty cool all right I see like a conquistador theme here with this guy and that feels similar I love the decanter in here check this out this mid-century modern dresser and the bathroom and this is the master all right I love this house all right oh there's Josh our friend shag right 239 soar and things that look like they came straight from that store and so that's where we found those my PR possession oh that's beautiful they were very it's a Swedish let's walk into the bedrooms here all right this bedroom has a balcony off to where the pool is and here's the master wow okay this one has a sunken in shower look at this so it sinks down and it's got your rain head so what is this down here why is there a spigot down there does that turn it into a tub I guess it does right so that's pretty cool yes right you don't need to have your taxes and all files so look at our uh so this is the hallway bathroom and we call this like the guest Suite gorgeous house uh well I have like certain parts of the perod that I really love one of when you're today stop let's go say hi to our friend uh Josh here helloa heyy say hi to the Vlog hello we bumped into during a Royal Hawaiian tour I'm glad to see you guys here how are you doing so these things look at that look how bright the colors are on this I think this is better than my vlogging camera so yeah we're on the iPhone right now with our friend Josh AKA shag you know that's something that shag said to me just now which I found kind of interesting is you don't have any of your own art in your unit right I designed wallpaper and I built a couple things but I don't have any of my own art hanging in it cuz that's like you don't want to go see the Rolling Stones and see them wearing Rolling Stones t-shirts I suppose but you know those guys will have their gold records and stuff on the wall right yeah yeah and the thing is that you're probably like you know be being a creative and always coming up with something new you probably get tired of what you have on the wall every month you'll have to change it right I do actually in my in my place I change out the art a lot yeah yeah yeah I could see that I could see that how you always want to and then you got to change the colors of the room or whatever right so I've never seen your place in person I'm looking forward to seeing it now well feel free I've seen photos many pictures or film as much as you want yeah okay thanks I've seen lots of photos of it so I'm going to go do that all right and uh yeah thanks thanks for uh for opening up your your your place for this tour yeah everybody in this place is great I the neighbors are amazing well you know this is the first time I've actually got to see all these other units too so I'll tell you like the first thing off the top of my head is how meticulous everything is and it just seems like so high maintenance to me beautiful thank you am I wrong about that I mean like I would be high okay okay okay I would be so particular about everything and just be like oh so but yeah I'm enjoying it so far I haven't seen all the other ones yet but I'm going to go look at yours and uh yeah yeah so cool thanks thanks for talking to us all right here yeah you too all right this is my look at this bench right here this is my TV and music yeah and the table the table's Eve Klein Eve Clin okay you have like you have the coolest stuff the coolest you have the coolest stuff and her desk here [Music] so cool that's a that's a Warhol of her so this is of the owner by Andy Warhol okay and when she had it reframed when she moved here it left a ghost image on the glass and if you stand here you can see it oh my God so that's her I could see her ghost image wow wow that's pretty cool okay I hope you guys can see this in the camera and you look over there but if I stand over here image of my Andy War because when I took when I moved here from New York I got it reframed and the ink head adhered to the glass in all those years so I'm the only one in the world with the ghost amazing I'm glad you saw that before you discarded the frame oh right I on the way to the you know wait a second yeah yeah Co is that and can you see well okay so there's a little bit of reflection I can see it in the glass here but wow how cool is that all right here's the rest of the room this is the wall opposite of the warhall photo or ghost image thank you all right I saw that that's all right sorry all right let's take a look in here okay so now I'm getting why there's all this war hul stuff in here because she's got a war haul of herself how cool is that yeah what not a people would say that right yeah but that mirror image thing was are you kidding me all right we're going to keep walking here couple observations so far as we're doing this is these homes are beautiful but you know like for someone like me they're a little bit they they feel I've said this before they feel a little hug meat and it's like I don't know if I can live in a house that just so so perfect I would feel uh so particular about everything from the the decor to to uh the maintenance and all that stuff but I'm really enjoying them as a visitor so and I hope you guys are enjoying them too let's go to the next one let's see what this one looks like well so there are four down here number this one so that's a cluster and then there's another one there like all right we're going to enter this way we keep we keep thinking why don't we andad Style Kitchen oh look at this the BL dress's owner and all the coke advertising art kind of wondering people retro all right like this with all the Shag up here look at this [Music] room shag [Music] art look at these lamps up here that looks pretty cool too all right we're going to go this way let's see what's over here oh look at the wallpaper in this room don't you love it yeah I love the colors yeah it's beautiful yeah you what I did notice look at the the wall art matches too this feels very like casino Vegas 7s Vegas what do you guys think I think so's hello this is the master I guess right so we're going to go look over the showers and the other ones were small too [Music] bathroom everybody's kind of done they all have to do TI they do when you buy I that this looks like a media room that's below what you call this I don't know what to call this and this tile as well is this called like a trident got yeah and you can see it coming out we just need to get it wired oh okay but um uh one of the units they put it's sweet they all right we're going to go into the kitchen an ironing board that comes out gos up very nice all right we're going to keep walking here really and we're going to go look at this fish is this a Witco fish that is such a dumb question I I'm not as familiar with all the Witco stuff as a lot of you guys are so tell us in the comments below if that's a Witco or not I've never seen that fish before he's got some of his mugs in here right here and there's the bathroom master bath it's another Oceanic Arts piece in here W it works really good the way he does that right the way he combines that there's a step down shower like in one of the other units and a couple of vintage velvets in here over the toilet pretty cool go all right good see got the all right this is a hallway bathroom and yeah there's another ranic Arts piece in there stainless steel sink and he that cool way that he did that with that Tikki far mug look my shirt matches his wallpaper H right across from him so yeah yeah he's right over there yeah very cool what does he think of your place I don't know it gives gives people the opportunity to see some stuff they've never seen because so we've been collecting for over 20 years what does he think I don't know he probably thinks thank God I sold a bunch of art yeah right I think he's a little afraid but he likes us so we're okay yeah I love it this is this is really fantastic it's like super over the top I mean all the art that you have in here and the way that you did with the furniture and the decor it's like it's really fantastic well thank you now you guys live here fulltime no we're about um 6040 so 40 here 60 back home in Cheyenne Wyoming you oh really you're that far away wow okay okay so yeah I mean this is this looks like a really great place to when it's time to sell the place in Cheyenne we'll be here all the time be out here right what's the weather like over there right now oh gosh last night say I got a chill advisory or winter storm advisory or something so I'm glad we're here yeah yeah yeah I live an hour away and it's even it's already different out here it's already about 10° warmer from from where I live and I live an hour away I just I live on the other side of the mountain but you know it's just an hour so 10° difference but yeah Palm Springs is always great yeah and when you have a place like this man what a what a retreat this is like you're always on vacation you know and that's what we said you got to be happy when you come in here you got a smile yeah well very well done thanks thanks for talking to us yes thank you all right cheers so this is a picture that my wife got me bought it from the Shag store but it was uh Don Ho signed it and so did Josh shag oh nice and uh at the time uh shag told me that he was always doing his Tiny Bubbles and drawing it and the more drinks he had drinking wine the pictures got a little crazy so he thought that was about halfway in between cuz you can still see what it is a glass with the bubbles on it yeah yeah that was really great I love that and it fit perfect on this wall it was super look get that wow so how long ago was it when you had this sign because Don Ho has been gone for quite a while bought it was in his collection it's it's an artist proof so shag actually had this at his home and we bought it I've had it for about 4 years I'm not sure when the print came out okay I'm not sure when it did but it's been a while ago wow very we wanted something TIY to put here and uh of course we wanted to be shag and so we went ahead and she found this through Monae at the Shag store yeah yeah and he had it in this collection very nice Great Piece great story thank you for sharing good um if you want me to so this this piece here originally was at the uh shag did it for Disney and it was at the art gallery which is no longer now but it was above Pirates of the Caribbean right I remember that and uh it was bought by somebody they lived in Fresno California and then they were selling it online Vicky and I purchased it it's it's made 04 shag did this we sold we bought it an ' 08 and about 0 1011 somewhere in there we thought gosh we're collecting too much stuff and we're going to go ahead and sell it so we sold it online to a gentleman that was in the oil business and he was in um New Zealand so we shipped it to New Zealand and then about four or five years later I happened to just see it online he was selling it so I emailed him and I said is that an original yes it is and I said uh did you buy it from somebody in Wyoming and he said well I bought it through a gallery in Arizona and I said well I remember I sold it I said can you take a picture of the back cuz I remember Josh had touched it and he had paint on his fingers his fingerprints so nobody copy and and get his um identity theft but his fingerprints are on the back of the panel cuz this is oilon panel and I said sure enough I remember that print so I bought it it went back to Cheyenne Wyoming and then we brought it here so it's been from Disney to Fresno to Cheyenne to Arizona to to New Zealand back to Wyoming and now back here where it's going to live forever here in Palm Springs at our house that's so cool that's so cool and I told him that story too wow I love that I love that you know I'm not really as much into the bright colors as I am the traditional stuff you guys know that but this place is pretty fantastic look at that wow I love it love it love it love it all right bathroom look at that tile it's got some of that glass glass and ceramic of the Vintage art and some other decor here umbrella from the Formosa in the shower all right let's look at the bedrooms all right here's a bedroom wow look at that patio off the bedroom tear chair I love the way that there's this nice private patio in here Al Tiki themed as well wow this is gorgeous very nice all right we're going to go through the patio to the other bedroom here I'm guessing this is the master and it is the master all right the attached bathroom and there's that step down classic step down shower that we're seeing in all the units I like this towel as well this is another combination of the glass and ceramic and this same countertops that we've seen in some of the other ones hi all right we've got a whitco globe up there and more shag art let's take a peek in the closet since they've opened it up for us look at this closet wow look at the cool stuff in here how cool is that and the view from the [Music] bedroom [Music] oh [Music]
