[Music] this is the moment that designers cherish the moment designers love it's the moment we bring our clients into the finished product for the very first time the moment we show them how all of the elements have come together to create the home of their [Music] dreams this is the reveal [Music] I'm David Brian Sanders and we are in the Upper Hills of Belair California I'm going to take you on a journey through one of my most magical spaces that I've ever had the privilege of Designing renovating and furnishing the house was originally built in 1957 my clients decided that they were looking to downsize because they no longer had kids at home it was a special property it had great bones and I knew that collectively we had the vision to bring their dreams to life right now I'm going to take you on a journey that is a feast for the eye follow me welcome to Linda Flora okay we are in the foyer of Linda flora and I really want to talk about the lighting this is a piece by Freda yelman she's a Swedish artist and each piece is custom made hand blown glass and what makes it so beautiful is actually the imperfections that you'll see in each turn of the glass it's almost like she is preparing diamonds very similar to the facet on a diamond additionally I chose a wallpaper covering that is blacks creams and whites and originally the design was already existing in this particular artist line but what wasn't existing was the color pattern and today she has gone on to make this which was a custom print it's a regular feature in her line the other item I want to talk about is the volume the volume of the original Poston beams these are from 1957 and I did not touch it because I really wanted to maintain the Integrity of the architecture in this space so I'm going to actually now take you guys into the primary living room and I'm going to show you how we kept the conversation going of the Black and White theme follow me [Music] so now we're in the primary living space and I really want to talk to you about the colors the textures the monochromatic vibe that is pretty much the same conversation throughout the whole house but in this room specifically I used creams and blacks and whites but everything has texture to it I used an oatmeal bouay on these great round swivel chairs I used a cream ultra suede which is also a contract fabric so that if anything spills on it wine grape juice jelly it rolls right off we have durability durability in our Fabrics durability in our finishes durability in our paints everything from lighting to Fabrics to textiles everything that we chose for this home is durable because they have dogs I also want to talk about the coffee table here this was a vision I had that was originally a dining room table and I thought to my client why don't we make this a cocktail table going back to the point I made earlier everything is texturized everything has movement but it's also monochromatic and subtle so that it speaks to what is going on not only in the room that we're in now but it speaks to all the other rooms in the house similar to the light that we just saw in the foyer the other Secret in this room is that fireplace that is a solid piece of Nero Marini the special aspect of this fireplace is that it's one piece of marble it is not cut anywhere there are no seams it took a crew of 12 12 people to get that piece installed correctly and properly so another great Factor about this room which adds warmth and depth and it's very inviting is that I did a herring bone White Oak floor again Herring bone White Oak super common right now especially in new builds and remodels but this is an antique version of that so it doesn't look brand new it was already put in worn there's a wash over it almost like a pickled wash which gives it not only an interesting texture pattern but also design the floors feel very rigid because of the pattern I chose to use but then I decided to do a really beautiful soft black textured rug on top of the Herring bone to again add a foundation to the room that's what we do in design we start with our foundation and we build upwards and I think this rug the black soft textured rug adds a beautiful Foundation to this room the other piece I want to talk about is the light this is a piece by Douglas Fanning who I'm a big fan of it is modern yet elegant Timeless and classic and that's something you're going to see throughout each room in the house on the journey that we take you through so another really great aspect of this family is every single family member is musically inclined this Steinway has come with the family from every home that they've lived in starting back in chapaqua New York and now ending up in belir California one of the key components to this room was making sure that I used this Steinway piano as a focal point and what better opportunity than to play this Steinway with the view behind you additionally I wanted to incorporate a lot of different textures in this room I used oil paintings I used olive oil vintage olive oil containers from Turkey from the 1800s I found a console table made of old oak that came from a cemetery I really wanted to try and expand my own Horizons by finding materials that weren't local to the environment in which I you know was currently searching for them but really wanted to go beyond the box if you will so now I'm going to take you to the piece to resistance in my view which is the kitchen so now we're in what is called The Chef's kitchen and this is a very special room to me because as a former chef with a culinary background I was very specific with my architect and Builder and laying out the flow of the kitchen you know you want to work with the triangle of the kitchen which means your proximity from your sinks to your stove to your freezer and fridge behind me but I really want to show you the most beautiful piece in the kitchen which is this lock horu range the client had always wanted a lock horu after years and years and years of having wolf ranges and cooking on Wolf ranges even larger ranges than this we decided that this was the right piece for this space the other moment I want to talk about is the Nero Marina again using solid SL of honed marble throughout the space and all of the spaces in the house adds to the conversation that it's seamless and fluid through every single room but you'll notice that I paired this beautiful vibrant stone with a very quiet Hood which I used in a cream plaster because I didn't want there to be so much heaviness on top as well as the bottom you need to break up your spaces with the negative and the positive the other really really important factor for for these clients was making sure that everything was integrated so in other words everything has a space these panels cover the refrigerator and the freezer the pantries are to the right of the refrigerator and to the left of the freezer but everything has its space and even when you open the drawers I've designed it so that the dishes the pots the pans any tool that she's looking for in this house has a space and she can go right to it and she knows exactly where it is and it goes back everything is neat and organized we don't like a lot of clutter and therefore when designing this home I was very clear in the collaboration and making sure that there was very minimal appliances almost none on the countertops so adjacent to the cooktop and another part of the triangle of the kitchen is the wet bar the wet bar and your wet station plays just an important role in making sure that the symmetry of the kitchen makes sense but I really want to show this the Henry the Henry faucet from Waterworks this was a 35 we lead time but it's definitely one of the most bespoke pieces in the house and I was adamant about getting this faucet for this kitchen another fun fact about my client and dear friend is that she's always had these great Oreo cookie jars in every house that she's owned and it's kind of like a welcoming gift and anybody can come along open the cookie jar and take a C with them so what I want to talk about now is the lighting the lighting in this house originally was super dark there were no skylights there was no natural light in this particular room so I raised the ceiling 2 and 1/2 ft to be able to put in the skylights which was something was really important to the vibe and to the moment and to what we were trying to create here in the space in the house I actually spend a lot of time here when I'm doing work when I'm reading when I'm thinking when I'm trying to you know come up with new designs and whatnot is the bank at this is the breakfast area custom table and base custom bank at and this is just a really beautiful space both at sunrise and sunset and again going to talk about the lighting because the fluidness and the conversation of the various light fixtures in this house not only do they speak to each other but this is a beautiful plaster cone pendant from rose yyac out of London she's a great talented designer that I've been enamored with and using her as frequently as I can in all of my projects another component to the home is the view the client's first day when they saw the property for the first time opened the doors and that is the view that they saw and that is what sold them on the house the beautiful part of this home is that from every room that faces West you have this View and it's just kind of magical out there let me show you so one of the great aspects both inside and outside of this home is the ability to entertain they are an entertainment family like I said they work in music and this space specifically is great for entertaining I've actually been here for concerts where the musical guest will perform at one end or the other and they'll have like you know 50 to 75 people out here for a concert and it's really a magical space and moment to be able to entertain your friends and family and have you know music playing and the Sun is setting and it's just a really beautiful environment to entertain and have that luxury I want to talk talk about the pool and the renovation of the backyard so at the end of the day we all decided and collaborated that we would keep the shape of the pool but we took down the Aesthetics so everything that you see here is brand new there is nothing here except for the shape of the pool that resembles anything from 35 years ago so another fun fact about this particular property and the elevation is that not only do you get these gorgeous sunsets but you can also see the ocean from here speaking of gorgeous sunsets I want to show you the dining room another incredible space with views to the west where you have these great sunsets so follow me [Music] there can you imagine throwing a dinner party at this table in this room room underneath that chandelier again lighting lighting is very important to this project is important to the client this is a John pomp sculptural piece and again elegant even with all of the right angles you have the softness of the bulbs you have the softness of the Globes and the vessels so it's really a beautiful collaboration of angles and textures and lighting we struggled with a round table we struggled with a square table we weren't sure how we were going to be able to get the most people around uh the piece that we chose so at the end of the day I came up with the idea that we should use an oval table because you can always add more people to the ends of the oval than you could if it was round or Square the clients have had this console in their family for probably 30 or 40 years and I've reimagined it I had it lacquered it's an antique piece and it was such a beautiful piece when it came uh over in the transition of their move but it wasn't quite right it was missing something and I decided to lacquer it and I think we got this beautiful gorgeous gray lacquer finish which adds again to the texture and the depth and the variety of style that you will find throughout this house the area rug is a special piece from my collection I have a rug line and uh the clients were enamored enough with with this specific design um that they wanted to put it in their dining room it's made from Marino wool but it's really special when you end up having your own designed piece in one of your projects it really makes you feel good we were looking and looking for months and months and months for the right piece for this space I found it popped it up showed it to the client and they were like and that's the piece that we need for that space and it holds beautiful objects Ceramics pictures you know things that matter to the client that actually mean something there's a really specific architectural detail and element that I used in this house throughout every room in the house and through all of the transition so like when you go from the dining room to the living room or from the living room to the kitchen you guys are going to see a shadow line the shadow line was super popular back in the ' 50s and it's kind of an it's just a beautiful architectural detail that elevates the home so what did I decided to do I wanted to keep using the shadow line in every aspect of design of this house I did it here down the stairwell then I actually framed the stairs in the wood and then I framed the glass in a black steel frame which falls in line with all of the Shadow lines of this house and I used it everywhere because I wanted to be consistent I wanted it to be elevated and I wanted to to be you know value added to every single room that we used and you know you don't really see the shadow lines used in a lot of properties Beyond where the wall meets the floor so that's my education for you on the shadow line and the history of the Shadow line so now I want you to follow me up to one of my other favorite rooms in the house but before we get there I want you to see this wine fridge we decided to put the wine fridge super close to the dining room because typically when designers and Architects are designing the kitchens they always put the third column we refer to this as the third column they'll do the ref refrigerator the wine fridge and then a freezer well we didn't have the space for all three columns and to use a Pantry in the kitchen so we all decided and collaborated and thought well why not put the wine fridge right near the dining table it's that much closer to your next drink follow me upstairs to one of the greatest guest bedrooms you've ever [Music] seen so we're in in one of the guest Suites of the house at Linda flora and to continue the conversation of creams and neutrals and textures and music I wanted to have the opportunity to create a warm relaxed soft environment for their guests to come in and also for their family when the family comes and visits they stay in these rooms so it really gives that music Vibe it's comfortable it's texturized again going back to my black wa my creams a little bit of CAC and Browns to speak to other variables I always like to add some color with my art and that's really where I do add color and I'm a big proponent of adding color in the opportunities that you can change down the road you know your foundational pieces in my view need to be creams blacks muted with texture and then have fun with your pillows and your art so behind me is the bathroom to this guest suite and one of the focal points which you'll see is that I kept the original skylights from the ' 50s reimagined them resealed them ordered new glass but it really adds such a beautiful Dimension to the shower get all that natural light and you get all the volume there's a lot of volume in the shower which you guys are going to see and it really really came out pretty spectacular we used an Italian tazzo throughout slabs of Italian tazzo I used polish nickel again clean yet transitional but also giving Kudos and props to the 50s when the house was originally built by going back to using the tazzo tile and marble which I'm a big proponent of I love to mix my my moments in time if you will I love to mix like the 50s with the 2000s I love to mix the 60s with the 80s I'm a big proponent of mixing times of design and I think you will be [Music] too so we are now in the primary bathroom at Lind flora and again one of the most spectacular pieces I think because I'm drawn to it and I'm drawn to lighting and I want to make sure lighting is such a key element every aspect of design in a home we chose the pineapple the pineapple light comes individually wrapped so every single piece of the pineapple has to be applied separately probably took someone 3 to 5 hours to put that piece together again common theme throughout this whole project was the Nero honed Marina I used it on his and her sinks I used slabs of it in the shower and I also used it as a Wan's cotting around the bathtub and then it stops over here at the beginning of the entrance of the shower used the same floor throughout the home I even used a shadow line between the hardwood floor in the marble slab wall there wasn't a space that the shadow line wasn't relevant and it just makes sense because again I like consistency fluidity and I want there to be a conversation between all rooms of the house that goes for the bathrooms that goes for a dining room to a kitchen a living room to a kitchen a water closet to a bathroom consistency is key in design the next space that I want to show you guys is the primary bedroom and closet so follow me in there [Music] [Applause] [Music] you'll notice the closet as you come through is literally a black hole I designed it with Black Oak Cabinetry and fortunately for me these particular clients only wear black so now we're in the primary suite at this project and I want to start talking about literally one of my most favorite pieces which is this harlo chandelier by Gabriel Scott because this room's ceiling is on an angle you have to actually design a canopy on an angle to be fitted to the roof that's on an angle so what you'll notice about this specific piece is that it's actually to supposed to be an upside down bouquet of roses an amazing moment about this room is the view the view speaks to the Tranquility the water outside there's no other position for anyone to take when they come in this room but to be calm and collected and tranquil another great moment in here is the ebonized oak bed this is from one of my dearest and nearest friends and colleagues and beautiful furniture makers is UNAM Milan so I purchased black linen fabric and had her adhere it to the base of the table and to the top of the table another thing I want to talk about is the artwork the artwork is where I like to bring in color originality again this has to speak to the client this has to speak to the owner of the home because at the end of the day no matter what I like I don't live here and they have to look at it every single day so another great moment in this room is the continued conversation of the nuro marina marble the honed neuro Marina and it's just really really special and it creates you know the full height of the room you really get to see the volume of of this piece and its Brilliance and its beauty when you don't cut it up into small pieces and I'm a really big fan of that I've saved the best for last I think every home has a Hidden Gem and I'm about to take you there right now and in this house it's the music R so follow me there [Music] so now we are in this hidden gym of this project which is the music room as I said at the top they are a musically inclined family so it was really important in this project that we give them an opportunity for each of the family members to come in here and utilize the room with the turntable they have a collection of almost 2,000 vinyl records this piece here was custom built for the records fun fact about this room is that I ended up using quiet Rock sheetrock so when you're in here and you've got your music going or you've got the movies on you shut the door and you can literally blast the music and no one can hear you throughout the rest of the house if one of the family members was in here and wanted to like blast the music or the television they could do so without interfering or disrupting the rest of the family we created in this space what's called a jib door so from the outside looking in it appear appears as if it's just a part of the wall so you really don't know where the door ends and the door begins or the door begins and ends depending on how you look at it I did stadium seating you'll see the sofa behind me is elevated so that people back there can see the large screen television and kind of create a special environment who doesn't love a hidden gym or a secret space in any household so I want to thank everybody for joining us on this Venture and on this journey today this is literally one of the greatest projects of my career I've been doing this for over 25 years the details that went into designing this house were methodically thought out planned and executed with extreme Precision thanks for joining me and I hope to see you again
