These former lovebirds seem to
have flown the coop. But why are Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness
getting divorced in the first place? Jackman and Furness were once the
definition of couple goals. The actors first met in 1995 on the set of
the Australian TV series "Corelli" and quickly hit it off. Jackman recalled
on "The Jess Cagle Interview" in 2017, "I said, 'I got a crush on you,
Deb, I'll get over it, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's embarrassing.' She goes,
'Oh, cause I've got a crush on you too.'" Despite a significant age difference the
pair's relationship continued to blossom, and in 1996, they tied the knot after less
than a year of knowing each other. Jackman and Furness were married for more than 27
years before they announced on September 15, 2023 that they were getting a divorce —
much to the shock of fans around the world. Their joint statement read in part, "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades
together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to
pursue our individual growth." The couple — who share two kids, son
Oscar and daughter Ava — stressed that their family is and always will be
their number one priority. They added, "We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate
your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this
transition in all of our lives." But while it seemed that the decision
was amicable, it now appears that the situation between the pair is a little
more complicated than we initially thought. Fans are now speculating after the former
couple appeared to no longer follow each other on Instagram as of November 2023. A quick
look at Jackman's Instagram account shows that he no longer follows Furness. Meanwhile, Furness
does not actively follow her ex-husband on social media either, leading many to believe that
the pair may not exactly be on good terms right now. And there are rumors that Jackman
is already looking for a new relationship following their shocking divorce announcement.
An insider told New Idea magazine in October, "Finding love again is one
of his biggest priorities." However, it's worth noting that Jackman has not
removed all traces of their relationship from his Instagram page, including this post
showing him and Furness moments before they graced the 2023 Met Gala last May.
Meanwhile, his sweet tribute post to his ex-wife in honor of their wedding anniversary
in April is still also visible on his page. However, a source told ET in October that the pair has remained amicable following
their split. The insider stressed, "They still maintain a happy and cordial
friendship. They are appreciative of their many years together and children and
there is no animosity between them." "I think perfect would be boring." They added that Jackman and Furness only
wish the best for each other and their kids, and that the decision to end their
marriage was mutual. The source continued, "It was their collective agreement
to go their separate ways and do the healthiest thing for everyone involved." Speaking with the Daily Mail,
another source alleged that the pair's relationship started to deteriorate
during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that their dynamic changed from
lovers to friends during lockdown. They said, "They are forever linked,
forever together with the children they have. But after the past few years, the love they had for each other turned more
into a friendship that got broken during COVID." The insider also claimed that the relationship
took another hit during the SAG-AFTRA strikes. "The strikes haven't helped one bit, it got
them in the same predicament as COVID did, to where they were just kicking the tires,
and Hugh found it all not the same magic they once had. Deb had similar concerns
... and separating is the best option." While their marriage didn't work out, the
anonymous source assured the news outlet that the former lovebirds have remained on
good terms and would never speak badly about one another. Back in September 2023, another
source revealed to People that Jackman and Furness were devastated about their marriage
taking a turn toward divorce. They explained, "It was not a snap decision — they took a
lot of time and consideration of everything, and they made this decision together.
They are going on separate journeys, but they will always be a family. They'll
always be co-parents and best friends."
