The Real Reason CB Radios Are Dead

welcome back friends to the shop in today's video i'm gonna share with you how to build for less than a hundred dollars a three radio emergency kit now why would you want a three radio emergency kit well as we enter the new reset i think a lot of us have kind of thought about maybe being a little bit more prepared minded cell phones are fine that's the the go-to for your a but they don't always work and if the cell phone tower is down or if you're in a remote place where there are no towers having this that you can hand out to your friends is very very nice so my original plan was to get my own radio right program it with some frequencies learn it tell my friends to do the same thing and that when we showed up to do things and dirt biking snowmobiling fishing hiking that they would pull out their radio well that just doesn't happen does it so as is typical if you want people to be prepared around you you'll have to make accommodations for them and that's what this kit is the kit starts with this excellent little bag i bought this for a first aid kit years ago on amazon and i checked them today they're still here i'll put links to all this stuff down in the description if you want to just go straight to it voodoo tactical they're about 15 it's a very well made kit i've been packing it around for years it's got the molly on the back that you can weave it on to anything you want to it's got it on the front it's got really good zippers and drain hole i mean it's actually really well made for the price and it's perfect for this kit three radios seems to be just about ideal now all i almost always have mine on me so that's you know interfaces with these but these little bow fangs i just think the world of them if you go online you'll start looking around you're going to get you're going to come across some disgruntled ham guys don't pay any attention to those guys they live to be nasty and angry and to be a barrier to anyone that might want to get into this sort of a thing you can use these radios without a ham license if you go and use the gm or gmrs frequencies now those are the same frequencies that you're going to use and you're like little bubble wrap radios you get at walmart we've all used those they're all terrible because they don't have the range these have a lot more power and they have better range and better option and they're cheap twenty four dollars for a small bowfang uh i mean they're so cheap to buy and if you lose one it's not the end the world before i rant about the boomer ham radio gatekeepers uh my personal radio is gonna come up how do i set it up and what is this remote mic and why do i have a remote mic these any one of these bowfangs you can plug a kenwood style plug remote mic into and all it is is that two pin you can go on ebay and you can buy these surplus from police departments all over the place fire ex fire radios and stuff for about 15 why would you want one of these i kind of got used to using this in noisy environments with the fire department wildland firefighting and in really harsh environments rain snow or just if you're doing something where it's highly likely that you're going to crash and break your radio moto writing right motorcycle riding so if we're just hiking or just cruising around i'll just click it right here on my riser it's close to my ear i can reach up and i can key it i can talk into it no problem if it's raining then you don't want that because these are not expensive radios you know these are not completely weatherproof although i've been had mine in the rain i've never for years i've never had any problem with it but with a remote mic you can chuck this in the back of your pack or in a pocket you can now clip this on your riser and you can activate the radio remotely here and you have a speaker it's really close to your ear i do prefer this because i can listen to it and i can talk into it very clearly right it's obvious right and this is weatherproof if you get a good one like a kenwood just get a surplus one and this works out very good i don't always run uh the remote mic but oftentimes i do you know just depends i just kind of gotten used to it and i like it but that's my personal setup i don't have any more than what 60 70 dollars into this with the big battery and the lanyard it's very good let's talk about ham radio boomers and let's talk about this let's talk about i've been doing youtube videos now for what goodness going on 14 13 14 years almost from the beginning so i have come across a lot of people in the comments and a lot of different type of people and i have broke it down that the three most insufferable types of folks that i've ever come across would be ham radio guys arborists and guys who have cummins diesels and dodge pickups now for the ham radio guys they will if you go online and you start researching these radios you're going to see where they'll just hate on the bofangs they'll go on and on about quality control issues how terrible they are and don't pay any attention to them you know what here's the reality of the whole thing this world that we live in is so complicated so complex there's so much information that you need to process and the rules are always changing right do you really have if you're if you're a a man who's trying to take care of a family and run a business do you really have time to geek out and spend hours and hours learning complicated menus do you need another electronic device in your in your life right that's going to eat up your time and and something you have to learn right you do not i need to know and if there's an enterprising young man out there if you could put together on a business card a bowfang quick start guide that was laminated that you could keep in a wallet you could even goodness tape it on the back right that just gave you the the five or ten most important functions how to scan how to program a channel in really quickly how to whatever that would be very very nice and very much appreciated me personally i'm not going to do it i can barely remember how to run the thing i need to know a couple things how to scan my frequencies so i know what's going on how to program a channel if i show up to someone who's got a radio on a different frequency how they can i can program to match mine and that's basically about it i'm not geeking out of this other stuff i'm not going for a ham license i don't have the time i don't i can't take up another hobby i can't i just barely treading water just keeping up with the massive amount of things that i have to take care of in control of my life now so everything in the future has got to be very basic and very simple it may not be the best but having the best comes with a lot of responsibilities sometimes just adequate sometimes adequate's best so don't worry about those old mean old boomers you just get your radios get it in place have that and just put it away make sure you that problem solved if you need radios if you're gonna go fishing hand them out here's one for the neighbor here's one we've got these radios everywhere i've got one in the kitchen mrs w hits me out here hey uh lunch is ready wanna come and eat you know saves her a lot of aggravation jack's room is at the far part of the house upstairs where we can't really shout at him i've got one in his room jack come on down give me a hand putting the camper on you get the idea right going fishing going hiking if you're a woman and your kids and husband have put you in a spot a sketchy campground and then they've run off and they're out doing things and you're there by yourself and there's no cell service how nice would it be to be able to have communication with them or at least i mean it's just a no-brainer hundred-dollar kit there's no excuse not to have it save your pennies don't go out neat stop drinking beer and you can have this in in a week or two i guess that's about it for today this
