you can tell that he wanted that he has something to prove you know you ask me he's proven he's just getting started i feel like this is really changed it's going to change a m and it's kind of cool to be a part of the culture is now changing things are here you belong in the damn playoffs you belong up there with the best in the country we're as good as anybody let's go baby let's go don't be what you can be don't be what god's mages be don't be [Music] the sting of missing out on the college football playoff is short-lived it's hard to complain about an upcoming trip to miami for the prestigious orange bowl game obviously you know we believe we had a tremendous season but that was that was for that day the day after that you kind of implore that same 24-hour rule which is um it's on to the next task you know for us of course you know emotions were high today but the day is over with and we can only move forward and we're excited about the orange bow and like coach fisher i would say control what you can control i think we do that and you know we do it the right way knowing that even though we probably didn't get into the playoffs because of the game too the second game of the season like of course we were hurt because all the work that we put in but um i would have to say it drove us more it drove us to be better and you still get to go to a new year's six bowl can you explain what it has taken to get here day in and day out for these players to make it to this point well you got to understand how to play in in with elite company and as i say breathe the elite air there are certain things that go with that that have nothing to do with your ability have to do with your mindset your culture your work ethic and you know it's all a process it's an education process our kids have really bought into it they're doing a great job with it and our leaders of our team has been awesome i still think we are just scratching the surface of what we are capable of this program is definitely changing in some good ways and moving forward this is definitely going to be the year where people be like this is when a m turned everything around we would be leaving this program you know better than when we got here the way everyone bought in and trust the process and believed in the coaches and we came together you know with the pandemic because a lot of teams didn't what we've accomplished through this pandemic and all the social injustice issues and all the things that going on in the world today for these kids to focus and do that and and help change the culture of this organization and put the effort they played with on a long hard year and just shows the character those young men i always say boys do what they want to do man do what they got to do this team did what it had to do it was a team of men and that's what i was very proud of complaining isn't in this program's dna competing is so is preparation that hasn't feeling right at home prior to takeoff for us preparation has been the same um you know just you know same type of film that we watch because of this long period we're able to you know have a deep dive into you know what north carolina does and you know study a little bit more than usual you know this game is going to be a lot about um winning one-on-one match-ups i think that's the trick to these these high-powered offenses that go sideline the sideline like someone has to win somewhere in order for you to be successful their quarterback is very great you know he's standing out on family you know the type of offense they run you have to be sound at what you're doing just be smart and be where you need to be when you need to be so those things would be very important i think our mindset each and every week is that we have something to prove and it's i don't think it's anything to prove to other people but we just want to continue to get better as a team and continue to grow our style of football here is to you know everybody's got to do their job play their role and so we need everybody uh on the field and pulling in the same direction it doesn't matter how old you are if you're a veteran or not everybody's important and everybody can step up to help the program be better we know we've been through a lot together so there's no point of us you know backing out right now you know we you know only make us stronger if we just stick together right now we're going through what you know that's why you don't see guys opting out of the bowl game because it's that important to us it matters to us i mean we have our confidence we have everything we need when jimbo talks to us he just tells us how how much we've came together and how important it is for this program and for this team to finish strong what you've accomplished in your pandemic social injustice all the things that are going on the way you've come together playing that thing it's amazing a lot of maturity to do what you did in any situation they're going on what you're doing is different so finished finished all the way through saturday finish the year just put the bag right here like if you let's say you grab his bag just put it in the bag check it if it's good zip it and then at the very end we'll put the jerseys making sure everybody has the jersey and ready to go and we'll just do the third but i want to get as much of this stuff up there as possible to save as much room so we're making sure they got their thigh and knee pads in there their cleats um any accessories that they would like to wear that we don't typically provide at the stadium and then we make sure they put that have their game helmet in there and there's game shoulder pads in there appreciate it [Music] i've never been to miami so that's definitely going to be a new experience and uh i'm really excited for it like miami i've only been to miami once in my life um it's only the second time i feel like it's gonna be a blast it's obviously not the same we're not as we're not down there as long as we would normally be but you know it's it feels good to be able to you know go to miami with the team you know just go home to business and have a little fun i can remember the orange bowl as vividly as any other they're out there and to be in that history and be a part of miami won the national championship there florida state won their national championship there you know all those great games and man to be a part of that being another being you know being the third orange ball i've ever been to and for our kids experience for the first time i'm very excited for them i know it's a new year six bowl so you know that's a major accomplishment for any team you know to be able to play in one of these bows because they're all very special bows any bowl game is a special boat but you know being in a new year six just means a little bit more and you know we i know we're excited for it the orange bowl is the game north carolina is the opponent a match-up of two heralded head coaches who know each other quite well listen any guy matt coach is going to be a well coached team max has success everywhere again he's a very bright guy it's amazing how quickly he's turned north carolina around to have success he's done recruiting playing coaching everything they're doing so it's going to be a very challenging tough football game we're going to go play another great game it's a great opponent just going in like we're going to every single game locked in and just ready to go i mean yeah they've had a couple guys opt out but that doesn't mean anything to us so we're just going to go into the game and go into every single game getting ready to finish out the season their offense is very explosive and you know they put up good numbers decent numbers and you know we just have to be ready for whatever they throw at us i did see that they have big offensive linemen and they have like two they do have two uh offensive first-round tackles so just being able to beat them and stop the run because they do like the run they have great receivers great talent all around the field but our main goal is to beat the hell out of north carolina one second until he joins us he's there hi coach good morning good morning well i'll just let you open up a few quick remarks and then we'll open it up for questions you know uh first again i've said it a million times but again to be in such a prestigious game and for a m uh last time we're here 77 years ago and haven't been a new year six for a while either so it's a great accomplishment for our players very proud of them very happy for our family and our organization to be here but again i always say this orange bowl is as good as it gets and to be able to come to south florida and play in such a prestigious game with such great history you're treated first class everything is first class and our kids are extremely excited to be here we want to finish this season off the right way to do the right things again mac has put together another great football team and we're going to have our hands full we have to play a great football game the pulse texas a m marvin liao makes the play he comes in and cuts down brooks what the 16 yard line man what anticipation from their own 11 yard line empty backfield hal throws intercepted run back to the 15 to the 13 yard line andre white jr all right the aggies got a three-man rush and they got good pressure sam howe threw it right to him [Music] three wide receivers to the right including widemeyer the tight end go to the left that pass is caught by isaiah spiller out of the backfield he is a yarn shy of the first down tackled at the nine yard line so fourth and one for the aggies give isaiah scoots ahead inside the five minute to the end zone on fourth down isaiah spiller scores from nine yards out touchdown aggies the tar heels though dig their heels in and create two scoring opportunities for themselves but the defense stands tall to force two field goals north carolina marching out keeps rolls right al spins crushed right around the 14-yard line how can take it down at the 10-yard line buddy johnson pass to the right side down is up here at the 10-yard line from just inside the 20. and that kick is good al throws to the tight end and he's taken down at the 16-yard line after the catch o'neil jr adkins again with the field goal from the right side and he gets it two field goals for north carolina nia smith inside damon dimas who is going deep instead throw to a nice at the 45-yard line across midfield as he jabs down gets to his left still on his feet drags that pile to the north carolina 43-yard line oh good keeper mike helen on the right side he gets to the 30 by the unc sideline slug out of bounds there's a flag 15 more for the aggies from the 11 yard line kellen pocket kellett has room up the middle steps back to his right kellen near the five yard line for kellen bond choke snap is good constantine's hold is good and the kick is good by seth small and with 7 40 to play in our second quarter at the orange bowl the aggies extend their lead back to four carolina finally busts through to the end zone to take the lead but this a m team isn't going to break all season they seem to have an answer even in this game with a bit higher stakes they still do second quarter down 13-10 in motion left to right hezekiah jones fake to isaiah and a little swing to him with mccullum out in front isaiah at the 25 to the left side dragged out of bounds right around the 30-yard line looks right throws on the run completes to the tar heel 45 yard line chase lane signals first down stepping up is kellen he's got room up the right side cuts back to his left kellen falls across the 40-yard line pitch to isaiah on the right side cuts back to his left and still on his feet and he's got the first down across the 30-yard line is isaiah spiller keller looking to the left across the middle that is complete the hezekiah jones inside the five quickly to the line of scrimmage spiller to the right of bond to snap to kellen to give to isaiah isaiah is in his second touchdown of the orange bowl and the aggies regain the lead just a three yard dive off that left side great blocking by the offensive line and isaiah goes in untouched and the aggies eight controlling the live scrimmage i'll throw it and mix in the run and get it going okay defense same thing gotta control that line of scrimmage come up to plays and what we're doing about the empty package okay listen control the lines of scrimmage great on third down and win the red zone battle and every possession is good three one two [Music] davis delivers the second half kickoff das newsom lets that land in the texas a m end zone north carolina first possession of the third quarter sam howe in aggie territory at the 40 17 13 aggies hal pulls it down he is hit by mckinley jackson and taken down that's going to be another tackle for loss the sixth for the aggies in this game throws the out that's complete chaffery brown at the 26-yard line before he is slung back but enough for the first down and this drive continues hal looks left man been hit as he's thrown into the end zone jalen jones with that coverage the pass intended for wallston howe looking right rolls to his left runs up the middle grabbed slung down right at the 15 yard line third and nine aggs were substituting howe to his left throws intercepted and run out of the end zone and shy of the 15 yard line flag down i'm not sure the aggies didn't have too many men on the field as they tried to substitute down stays to the right of howland a third and four from the aggie 10. newsome in the slot then chaffrey brown hal throws downs out of the backfield on the wheel route for a touchdown the third quarter flies by as the two teams stay close it's 2017 carolina to start the fourth quarter a m gets a lengthy drive that ends in a short seth small field goal it's tied not for long one play after the kickoff carolina goes deep and connects to lead once again it's 27-20 time is ticking down on the season does the aggie offense have another answer and perhaps another gear pressure right up the middle crossing round that is complete to the 40-yard line boy this is good on both ends great throw by killing and the diving catch by heads on this on the straight in route fake to a chain kellen looking right throwing right he's got a receiver that is completed nia smith in tar here territory down the right side he comes back to the middle of the field inside the numbers still on his feet anaya smith and he's near the five yard line oh sub zero was just freezing north carolina defenders empty backfield just got the snap off kellen rolls to his right helen's going to run kellen to the end zone kellen touchdown aggies all right good job got out to the right side couldn't find anybody open got out to the right side and just out ran the competition into the end zone for the touchdown with the extra point it'll be tie game aggies [Music] both defenses then tighten up and it's getting late the aggies need a play experience or youth doesn't matter someone must step up the snap to kellen out of the backfield a chain he runs behind wada buyer's block and he gets up near the 30. jalen with that block to free devon a chain in the first down for the aggies kellen gives a chain again why to buyer with a block stumble stays on his feet still on his feet now it's the race for number six down the left sideline eight shade is gone six four six and the aggies have the lead on the 76-yard touchdown run by devon eight-chain he's crazy he's a little crazy let's go let's go you're not catching him second one fake powell deeper in the pocket rolls to his right looping pass that's too high brooks to the right of howl give to him up the middle hit by real he is not even close he's gonna lose yards fourth and one from their own 34. brooks up the middle brooks spins i don't know if he got back to the line of scrimmage i don't think he did i think short they're marketing short they're marking him [Applause] the aggies put the finishing touches on a historic 2020 campaign with the orange bowl victory a season that when the program looks back on it will show resilience led to relevance nationally and a year in which their grid their head coach calls it will lead to greatness in the future hey he fast for so he for sucking run i would like to present the 87th capital one orange bowl trophy to texas a m aggies and coach jimbo fisher congratulations thank you very much all right we've came a long way achieved a lot of things had some disappointments had some things but i'm gonna tell you what this team kept fighting just like in this game i i can't be happy i'm so happy for our fans the 12th man is as good as it gets guys i'm telling you that right now they're lucky they're lucky we all couldn't come they're lucky we all couldn't come but you know there's some great things what this team's accomplished is senior class i want to say thank you to this senior class what it's achieved what it's done what it's came through and and really persevered and laid the groundwork for the future of this organization let me tell you this we ain't done yet talent only takes you so far tell it when you get to that elite level when you're playing these games and you play these big situations talent's only taking you so far then it gets down to guts it gets down to toughness and it gets down to your how how competitive are you and how much pride you got in yourself it took what four quarters three quarters and three quarters of another quarter but you never flinched you never broke you never move you just kept playing that is one hell of a win guys i mean one hell of a win i'm so proud [Applause] now you understand why we practice like we practice this thing like we see we do the things the off season like we do it pays off and listen like i told them guys out there this this is a great year your seniors the guys that like not to come back or you guys we'll talk about that
