- Tonight on "The
Proof is Out There," it's abnormal, it's
abhorrent, it's amorphous. What is this crawling creature? (dramatic music) - [Tony] And you've
heard of crop circles, how about a sheep circle? - And I'm like, "Why
are they in these kind of concentric circles?" - [Tony] Plus, is this a
legendary monster so malevolent its name cannot be spoken? - It is forbidden
to mention the name because it is bad luck
and will cause doom to those that mention that name. (dramatic music) (light switch clicking) (dramatic music) - [Tony] Around the
globe are videos- - [Woman] What the heck is this? - [Tony] photos, and sounds
that defy explanation. (low humming) (dramatic music) - [Man] Is it some kind
of unidentified object? - [Man 2] A plane that was
literally frozen in the air. - [Tony] What are they? - [Man 3] Some sort
of bizarre mutation. - Extraordinary claims
need extraordinary proof. (dramatic music) - I'm Tony Harris, and as a journalist
for more than 30 years, I've followed the facts
where they take me. Now I'm bringing that
spirit of investigation to the world's strangest
sounds and images. (creature shrieking) We'll analyze each
one with top experts- (dramatic music)
(muffled screaming) - It's a credible case,
it's a credible video. - [Tony] And pass a
verdict on what it is. - This video was clearly faked. - "The Proof" starts now. (suspenseful music) Good evening, and welcome
to "The Proof is Out There." Do not attempt what
you're about to see. But hypothetically,
what would you do if a race car was coming
straight at you at full speed? For some, the answer is
to jump right over it. Impressive, certainly. For real? Well, let's see. It's August 2011 in
West Allis, Wisconsin, (dramatic music)
(indistinct chattering) and dozens of
people are watching a seemingly unassuming acrobat flip over some of those
gathered to watch. And his grand finale
is eye-popping. (dramatic music) (crowd ooing) Watch that again in slow-motion. The stuntman runs full speed towards an oncoming
black sports car. Just as it seems he will be hit, he takes a flying leap and
flips right over it cleanly. And he's not the only one
who appears to be pulling off such a potentially deadly stunt. In November 2020, a
Michigan man was filmed flipping over a red sports car accelerating towards him. - [Man] Oh my god! No way!
(laughing) - [Tony] In another viral video,
a British gymnast backflips over a speeding Formula One
race car like it's nothing. These situations would end
in disaster for most humans. Here's a memorable fail. (dramatic music) Makes you wonder if this
isn't another CGI prank like we've seen before. You may remember the guy
dodging traffic in Colombia. And if it's not a hoax, exactly how are these
men pulling this off? (soft music) - There is this ability
in some individuals to shift the rules of reality, or the physics of oneself. There have been yogis who, while in the process
of deep prayer, were seen floating, literally
levitating above the ground. - However, some of those
claims of levitation, like that of Yogi
Subbayah Pullava supposedly observed
by 150 people in 1936, turned out to be a clever hoax
involving a concealed pole. So, are these modern displays of gravity defiance also
fakes or the real deal? (bright music) The current Guinness
world record for a standing vertical
leap is 67 inches, and that's without a flip and a car careening
toward someone. So, is this really possible? And what to make of
those failed attempts? (people on TV screaming) Whoa.
(laughing) We asked the experts. (dramatic music) First, Mick West looks for signs any of these videos were faked. Check out this example. Here, the effect was achieved by combining a shot of the flip and one of a driving
car taken later. But the Wisconsin
flipper is different. - There's nothing
that leaps out to me as being a particularly
fake video. We see his reflection
in the windscreen when he jumps over it, here. We see the reaction
of the crowd. (crowd cheering) - [Tony] The
shadows also line up in this video from
the parking lot, but the video on the
racetrack raises a flag. (dramatic music) - You'll see right here, there's a large chunk of
the rear spoiler missing, and not only just in that frame
but in other frames as well. There's a chunk
missing right here. He's obviously very capable
of doing back flips. I think they've taken
two shots identically, with the camera
perhaps synchronized, and composited them together, and they've unfortunately
not done a perfect job of it. (suspenseful music) - [Tony] As for the
other two videos, Professor Michio Kaku
says these stunts are certainly possible
for certain humans with the right physical traits. - The key physical
characteristics that these people have
to have is coordination of their lower body weight. You wanna be able to
have strong leg muscles. It's the vertical
lift from a dead stop that allows you to perform
these gyrations in the air. - You can think of
it like a spring. The amount of force
that a spring exerts is directly
correlated to how far you push the spring down and then how far the spring
then expands back up. It's the same with muscles. - [Tony] It also requires
a certain mental acuity. You have to overcome
the tendency to tense up as the car is coming at you. - You wanna approach it in a
loosened and relaxed state. You want your muscles to
start out maximally lengthened so that you get the most force that you possibly can
out of that contraction. - The single most
important characteristic that you have to
master is timing. If you take off too
late, the car hits you. You take off too early,
you land on top of the car. (dramatic music) - So, our verdict. These stunts can be faked, as in the case of
the racetrack video. But there are certainly
people out there capable of leaping
over a moving car. In the authentic videos, the talented stuntmen got
lucky with the timing. But it could've
still ended badly. So don't go trying this at home. - You probably don't think
about potatoes too often, but the average American eats about 124 pounds
of them a year. They can be fried,
mashed, or roasted, but how would you prepare one
that appears to be crawling? July 2018, Portsmouth, England. A resident of the town is having
a small problem with pests. But when she goes to check
an ant trap, she finds this. (dramatic music) - [Tony] Look closer. The internet is
buzzing with claims this is some kind
of potato creature. But looking at the ant trap, it looks like an awfully
small potato to us. Observe how it resembles
and undulating corn dog. - The really strange
thing about this creature, is this long rat-like tail. That is something that I've
never seen, admittedly, on a caterpillar, grub,
larva, or anything else. It's like a potato
with a long tail. - [Tony] And keep in mind, this tailed potato
is being filmed in a country crawling
with strange sightings. One example, the Canvey
Island Monster of 1953. - It was described as
being about four feet long with bulging eyes, appendages
that appeared to be sort of long gangly legs. There was all types of
theories and speculation, ranging from an unknown
deep-sea creature humanoid in appearance to some type of
extraterrestrial or alien. - [Tony] The Canvey
Island Monster is now considered to have
actually been a monkfish. But back to our crawling potato, and an interesting fact, the day this
creature was filmed, there was a total lunar eclipse. Could there be a connection? Some people believed
in the Middle Ages that lunar eclipses
were caused by magicians or moon-hungry monsters. - Interestingly enough,
there are theorists who speculate that celestial
events such as eclipses often coincide
with the appearance of interdimensional creatures, beings, entities,
and apparitions that are not of this world, somehow stepping from
another dimension or through a portal
into our reality. - A totally eclipsed moon is
sometimes called a blood moon for its reddish color, and can last for
nearly two hours. So, what is this thing, and where did it come from? We asked the experts
to hash it out. (pensive music) (woman groaning) - I could totally understand why she thinks it
looks like an alien. It's really bizarre-looking. It looks like something that
most people haven't seen. - [Tony] Wildlife biologist
Stephanie Schuttler begins her analysis
by considering that ant trap seen at
the top of the video. Might this be an actual potato, or other object being
carried by the ant colony the homeowner was
trying to kill off? Ants are so powerful that
they can carry objects 5,000 times heavier than
their own body mass. - People might think this is
ants moving a large potato, but you can see
the body vibrate, so something internally is
definitely causing that. It's not just a solid shape
being moved along the ground. It itself is moving. And we can really see it when
it goes around the corner. It actually bends its body. You can see the body
move like a caterpillar. You can see the movement
along the entire body. - [Tony] Our experts
think this creature is about a few inches long, so a pretty small potato. What about a caterpillar
or worm then? There are about a million
different species of worms, ranging from
microscopic in size, to one in Australia
that was two feet long. - This could be
some sort of a worm, but the thing about it that's
really weird is it has a tail. Worms don't really
have this distinct tail like we're seeing in this video. - [Tony] For Schuttler, that unnerving tail
narrows the options because there's really only
one animal that matches, a critter that can cause
intestinal infections in humans. It's nothing you
want in your home. - This is a rat-tailed maggot, the larval stage of a drone fly. So, they are born in ponds and they have these
tail-like things that help them breathe
above the water. They're in really
stagnant ponds. The tail is a siphon that
helps them get oxygen. And then eventually they'll
turn into a drone fly, which resembles a bee. - Although we've never
seen anything like it, and never wanna see it again, that telltale tail
does it for us. Our verdict, this is
a rat-tailed maggot. Joe, don't make me look
at that thing again. "Don't be afraid of the dark." We all grew up hearing that. And generally, I'd say
our parents were right. But after you see these
recent videos out of Canada, you might find those
words harder to live by. (dramatic music) May 2021, Saskatchewan, Canada. Two female security guards are
working a 12-hour night shift on a Cree First Nation reserve when they discover
they are not alone. The footage shared to TikTok shows a grassy slope
beside a parking lot, as a robotic voice,
a TikTok staple, narrates the user's comment. - [Tony] It's
difficult to make out, but it appears to be a nearly
translucent humanoid figure walking towards the
security guards. The figure seems to blend
in with the tall grass and has no identifying features. As it gets closer to the car, the camera suddenly turns away, and the video cuts out. (dramatic music) The footage triggers a frenzy
of speculation on TikTok. One of the most popular theories is that the security guards
have had an encounter with something
called a skinwalker. (dramatic music) - In Native American folklore, and specifically in
the Navajo traditions, we hear references to
beings known as skinwalkers, and these are shaman or
practitioners of dark magic that are shape-shifters that are able to
transform from a human into any type of animal. Typically, it's for
malevolent reasons. - [Tony] In fact, in 1878,
the hysteria over skinwalkers culminated in the
Navajo Witch Purge, when 40 suspected
witches were killed to restore harmony and
balance to the tribe. (dramatic music) - [Ken] These skinwalkers are
greatly feared by the Navajo. In fact, it is forbidden
to mention the name because it is bad luck
and will cause doom to those that mention that name. (dramatic music) - [Tony] There may
also be a reason why this creature chose
these security guards. - There are theories
that these skinwalkers are drawn to
certain individuals. And the premise behind this, is to lure unsuspecting victims deep into the wilderness
and to cause them harm or to assimilate them into
skinwalkers themselves. - Since October 2020 alone, hundreds of videos with
the hashtag skinwalker, have been posted to TikTok, accounting for 39 million views. So, could this meteoric
rise in skinwalker videos lead to incontrovertible
proof these evil beings exist? (pensive music) Wildlife biologist,
Dr. Stephanie Schuttler analyzes the video
and doesn't see much to support the
skinwalker theory. - It looks like a man
walking, but you don't really
see any clothing. It seems to be like
an all-gray figure. To me, it's strange that
if they can make shapes into different animals,
they seem very human-like and it doesn't seem
to resemble any animal in this area at all or
even any exotic animals. - [Tony] And, she says, there's
an even bigger red flag. - I also don't understand
why the camera drops down. I understand they're scared, but if they were really
interested in getting this, it seems like they would have
the camera on the whole time. - [Tony] Next, we take the video to science writer Mick West, who's fully willing to give
it the benefit of the doubt. - It could actually be some
kind of cryptid coming out of the foliage towards the car, but because it's such
a low resolution video, and because it's so
highly compressed, we can't do the normal
types of analysis that we do to see if there are
indications of fakery. - [Tony] Still, West isn't ready to call this a
legitimate skinwalker. Instead, he offers
up another theory. - Kind of see a shape suddenly
appear out of the foliage and it's amorphous, and
it looks like a figure walking towards the road. If someone wanted to fake this or someone was trying
to scare somebody else, then you could very
easily get this effect just by having somebody
in a green camouflage suit and just kind of come
out of the background. It is possible that there are
some kind of strange creatures out there in the desert that
we haven't discovered before, but this really isn't
very good evidence of it. So, I think I'm gonna have
to go with a guy in the suit. (suspenseful music) - We're going to go ahead and
call these sightings a human, probably using some kind of
camouflage like a ghillie suit. So, no need to cancel your
upcoming camping plans, but keep your eyes
and ears open. And if something comes at you, well, we suggest you
run away, just in case. If you've ever had
trouble sleeping, you've probably
tried counting sheep. But there's one flock of sheep that might just keep
you up at night, and it's putting
the "ewe" in UFO. (dramatic music) April 2021, East
Sussex, England. University lecturer Chris Hogg is going on his usual
morning bike ride. What Chris doesn't know
is that this bike ride is going to turn into
a real head trip. - I'm getting closer and closer to what I suddenly
realize is sheep. And I'm like, "What is that? And why are they in these
kind of concentric circles?" And normally, sheep are noisy, but they were just
absolutely silent. - [Tony] So, what or who is
the cause for these weird sheep and their eccentric
concentric behavior? - If I didn't know better, I would call this a
living crop circle. - [Tony] While the
concept of crop circles may have originated
with a series of hoaxes in the '70s and '80s, similar
reports go back centuries. And some of the
latest crop circles are so mathematically precise many theorize that they
are encoded messages from extraterrestrial forces. - When you see
something this odd, you have to ask
yourself the question, Are we dealing with
perhaps some form of non-human intelligence that
are controlling these sheep? (dramatic music) - [Tony] This wouldn't
be the first case of crop circle via animal. About a decade ago, crop circles were springing up all
over Tasmania Australia. The culprit, frenzied
wallabies hoping in circles, almost as if someone
is controlling them. And what about this wild
and wooly sheep incident? - Historically,
there was an incident that happened back in 1888, called The Great Sheep Panic. This is where sheep, thousands of them,
at the same time, they got and just
fled, they went crazy. - [Tony] Because
of that incident is still up for debate today, as for our East Sussex heard, - Whatever caused these
sheep to act is unison, something powerful
triggered them. - Whether you think all
crop circles are hoaxes, or you are already at
work decoding them, you've got to admit, these sheep certainly seem
to be up to something. Lets turn to our experts
to find out if this flock is being manipulated by
extraterrestrial forces, or if someone is trying to
pull a wall over our eyes. (pensive music) Dr Stephanie Schuttler says
the wallabies crop circles have more to do with the
crops, than the circles. - They were eating poppy plants, and they got high and
were jumping around in circles that
made these patterns. (dramatic music) - [Tony] But
biologist Floyd Hayes doesn't think an opium high, accounts for the strange
behavior of the English sheep - I don't think there is any
evidence that they are drugged, I think that if they were
really not feeling well, they'd probably be
sprawled out on the ground, but they are all standing alert, so they appear to be healthy. - [Tony] So is there
a chance these sheep circles could be
perfectly natural? - So a lot of prey species
will gather together as a defense against predators, especially in open
ares like this, and they will form
circular shapes. What's really odd
about this though, is that the circles seem
to be perfectly shaped and evenly spaced apart. So this is something that you
wouldn't see naturally happen. - [Tony] Schuttler looks closer, and notes most of the sheep
have their heads down, like they are eating. For her, that clue is
the key to this mystery. - What's really going on is
these sheep are just eating, and the food they were given, was laid out in this
circular pattern. The sheep are therefore
making this formation, just because that's
where the food is. - [Tony] Chris Hogg arrived
at the same conclusion. He decided to investigate
after taking this photo, and track down the farmer. - I was like, "Have you seen
what the sheep are doing? (Chris chuckling) And he looks over and goes, "Yes, I fed them in that shape" (Chris chuckling) (pensive music) - So we've solved the mystery. It seems that the way
to a sheep's mind, is through its stomach. Our verdict, these
strange sheep circles were simply a byproduct of
a specific feeding method. That's our show for tonight, make sure to send
us your best videos. And remember to keep
those cameras rolling (upbeat music)
