the Mega Man X Legacy Collection is a great compilation of all of our favorite Mega Man X Games but unfortunately it does have its fair share of problems now I have already made a video like this on the original Legacy Collection so I figured it was finally time to make a video on the problem with the Mega Man X Legacy Collection or at least how I would improve the Mega Man X Legacy Collection because I mean the game's good I play it all the time it's fun but it's not perfect we all know this it has problems you agree the Mega Man X Legacy Collection released on July 24th of 2018 and it included Mega Man X X2 X3 and X4 for only 20. the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 released on July 24th of 2018 as well but this one includes X5 X6 X7 and X8 also for only twenty dollars these both released on the exact same day unlike the original Legacy Collection which I am not at all a fan of but before we get into that I want to talk about what I actually like about this collection I'm also going to be referring to this as one game for this portion of the video unlike my last video on the Legacy Collection not only because they both released at the exact same time but also because other than the games that they contain they're almost exactly the same in every single way first of all we need to find out how well these games actually play and luckily for us they play great they run just like they did on their original Hardware which means there is the same amount of slowdown but in my opinion that's actually a good thing because it means you could theoretically speedrun these games without having to make a new category in the classic Legacy Collection they're was an option to increase the CPU speed which weirdly is not in this one but I personally did not use that anyway so I don't really mind if these games also play in super high quality unlike the original X collection's blurry 240p display that doesn't even work on most TVs but I'll probably make a video in the future directly comparing the original X collection with the Legacy Collection if you guys want to see that but I'll only do it if I get a 500 likes that's right 500 likes and I'll compare the original X collection to the X Legacy Collection but anyway for now in this video I'm going to try to avoid the comparison and just look at this collection for what it is but like I said as far as the gameplay goes the Legacy Collection is great there doesn't seem to be any noticeable input lag or any issues with the emulation at all I will say sometimes it does feel like it eats my inputs more than it would on the original Hardware but to be fair I am using a Bluetooth Xbox One controller on my PC so there is a very high chance it's just because of that with the gameplay being as crisp as it is this is definitely the definitive way to play most of these games and the easiest way to play Mega X7 and X8 unless you have a PlayStation 2. on top of that you're also able to choose between the Japanese and the American versions of each of the games which is of course super cool and there are also a ton of filters for you to play around with if you're into that kind of thing as well as borders and backgrounds and stuff like that just like the original Legacy Collection had personally I'm not into these but I am happy they were included plus unlike the original Legacy Collection there is a new rookie Hunter mode which basically just makes the game easier in my opinion it goes a little bit too far to the point where I would consider this to be baby mode but it's still a great addition for people who are new to the Mega Man series not to mention it's way less egregious than the literal rewind function of the original Legacy Collection I mean what was up with that it's a cool feature but come on if you use that are you really a gamer no you're not you're not a gamer if you use rewind I'm sorry unless you're uh subscribed if you're a subscriber you're of course a gamer but the game's playing well should be the absolute bare minimum for a collection like this so what about the extras well just like the original Legacy Collection there is a very extensive Museum which is something I've always enjoyed taking a look at in collections like this inside the museum we have a gallery a music player a product Gallery where we can take a look at Mega Man X toys and merchandise the day of Sigma cutscene from Maverick Hunter X and even some classic trailers for when these games came out I will say though the trailer section and the product section are the exact same between the X Legacy Collection one and two which is a bit weird but I guess we can let it slide the art gallery is always one of my favorite things to waste time on in collections like this and this one certainly does not disappoint each collection has concept art from all the games included in whichever one you decide to use and they're even sorted by a game which is nice there's art for literally every single Maverick and every single enemy and some are even paired with a data tag which includes a nice little description about whatever the art is though I don't know how to read so I have no idea what any of this says if you're anything like me though you could literally spend hundreds of hours looking at these so I can't imagine any Mega Man X fans would be dissatisfied with this compilation of art there's even a section for the Legacy Collection itself with some very high quality renders of the covers of the games without the logo that you could use for a poster or something as well as some new high quality pictures of X that I might even save and use in a future YouTube video but you gotta subscribe and check back on all my uploads to be sure because you know I could be lying not that I would lie to you guys I would never do that if the art gallery is not your thing though then the music player will not disappoint this thing has every single track from each of the Mega Man games included in the collection which finally gives us a way to listen to these cleanly without sound effects or using someone else's YouTube channel speaking of YouTube channels I have made a video on the best song from every Mega Man X game as well as the best song from every classic Mega Man game which is something you might enjoy if you like Mega Man music but on top of having literally every single music track from each game included in the collection there's even a section for the original compositions for the X Legacy Collection itself which I am a huge fan of in the classic Legacy Collection they just reuse old Mega Man music for the menus and stuff which was fine for the most part but the X Legacy Collection went above and beyond and made several new tracks for different parts of the collection I am obviously a huge fan of this especially since they even included these new tracks in the music player but on top of that these songs are actually really good they're nothing crazy since they're mostly designed to be menu music but I love the ambience and enjoy them thoroughly plus they're a lot better than anything from Mega Man X7 soundtrack next up we get to take a look at the product Gallery which is surprisingly a nice touch I think a lot of people brush this off as just an advertisement but that doesn't really make any sense to me considering 99 of these things aren't even for sale by Capcom anymore anyways I guess I could be biased since I'm a weirdo who used to spend hours looking at that Mega Man X GameCube controller in the back of my X collection instruction manual but I genuinely think this is a great addition this section of the game includes action figures capsule toys a section called other which is stuff like buildables and pencils and such Mega Man X cards patches shirts books and even the official soundtracks I could see a lot of people saying they prefer the art gallery but this honestly might be my favorite section of the museum and I really wish there was something like this in the original Mega Man Legacy Collection again I might be biased because I've been big into collecting ever since I've was a kid especially when it comes to Mega Man stuff and even with my countless hours on eBay and random other shops on the internet so there are still a few products that I have literally never seen before in my entire life but it is even nice seeing some of the more obscure ones that I have seen before or even owned myself plus if you ever get into collecting Mega Man X merchandise you could probably use this as a checklist or a goal or something along those lines but of course that's not for everyone so let's move on to the day of Sigma OVA if you were unaware this was actually an unlockable 25 minute animation from Maverick Hunter X that gives some really important backstory to the Mega Man X Series I've heard the Canon isn't necessarily consistent with the original games and it was more for the Maverick Hunter X Canon but I can tell you for sure that most of this is actually Canon for the real X Games the main thing with this is that you find out that Sigma was originally the good guy until he uncovered zero and got the zero virus which is 100 Canon but if you want to hear more about that I suggest you actually check out the animation this is a super nice touch for a collection like this though and I'm very happy it was included even if I have already watched it like 15 times on YouTube it is a little Annoying that you can't fast forward or rewind which does make me just want to watch it on YouTube for free but you are able to skip scenes at the very least this isn't the only video included though because we're also able to watch Japanese trailers for every single Mega Man X game which is once again an amazing addition to this collection You could argue that you could just watch these on YouTube but it's not only are a lot of these fairly obscure but it's also just nice to have them all in one place plus if I'm on YouTube I'm typically not trying to watch an old school Mega Man X trailer but if I see the option to do so in the collection I'm much more inclined because YouTube is for watching tutor P right I don't know what else you'd be doing on YouTube other than watching tutor P especially if you're a Mega Man Fan it could just be me or some kind of personal bias but I love watching trailers like this in general though and I'm super happy Capcom added these to the collection because I guarantee if they didn't add these nobody would have complained so thank you Capcom anyway it's clear that I am a big fan of the museum and everything it has to offer but on a similar note I am also a huge fan of the hunter metals and the way this collection handled them these are just achievements straight up which I love but in the classic Legacy Collection the only achievements were for beating the game were for clearing challenges included in the game these achievements however not only include beating the individual games of course but they also include actual fun challenges to try to incorporate into your playthroughs for example just in Mega Man X2 there's an achievement for watching morph moth's metamorphos without interacting which is something I never in a million years would have tried without the achievements I didn't even know that was possible there's another one for clearing Magnus centipede stage without getting caught which is much harder than you might imagine and there's even one for using the silk shot to pick up an item which is obviously really easy but it's also rewarding and lets players know that you're able to do that in the first place achievements are not for everyone obviously but as someone who is into them I think this is a major improvement over what we had in the original Legacy Collection plus this menu where you get to look through them is very nice and it reminds me of Kirby air ride and since it wasn't in the original Legacy Collection this is a huge XYZ collection W but enough of looking at all the cosmetics and extras it's time to take a look at what we've all been waiting for which is the X challenge this is a brand new game mode exclusive to the XYZ collection where you have to battle two Mavericks at the same time there are several stages that you have to progressively unlock and before starting each stage you're able to choose which weapons you want to go in with you are presented with a pre-selected group of weapons before starting the stage which I do find a bit weird since like you're obviously just going to pick their weaknesses so I don't know why they didn't just give you the option to choose any weapon you want but whatever the game mode is a pretty good challenge though so you really need to practice playing the actual games before getting into this or at the very least you need to be subscribed to my channel since we all know tutor P subscribers are the most epic Jammers in the history of humankind despite the challenge though it is certainly enjoyable and by far the best addition to this collection but with all that being said it's time to look into the actual problems with the X Legacy Collection just to be clear I obviously enjoy the game as a whole as I just spent the past several minutes doing nothing but praising it and I also have tons of hours in both Collections and use them anytime I want to play one of the Mega Man X Games but there is honestly still a ton of problems I have with this collection that really bother me so without further Ado let's actually start hard to get into things first of all the game is separated into two different games which I think is stupid this is obviously the big elephant in the room and probably my second or third biggest problem with this collection as a whole I talked about this problem with the classic Legacy Collection as well but at least that's had multiple excuses and a story behind it that seemed to explain everything the ex-legacy collection on the other hand is literally just Capcom being cheap as far as I'm aware since for the switch version of the game it was a lot cheaper for them to produce a smaller cartridge with half the collection than a bigger cartridge that had both I'm obviously not an economic expert but personally I would have rather paid sixty dollars for a complete X collection in one game than 40 dollars for it to be separated and if they made that decision instead of what they did I assume the extra twenty dollars per sale would make up for the production cost but again I'm not an economist so I don't know for sure now practically it doesn't affect me too much since I am on Steam but I promise I would have bought the physical copy of this on the Xbox to switch and the PlayStation even though I don't have one if it was just one game sure maybe it's my OCD or maybe I'm being nits picky but I legitimately hate this and when this game was first announced this was a huge disappointment to me especially since Capcom could have 100 made this one big collection if they wanted to but whatever I'm not going to get into this specific issue too much because if I did this would be an hour long rant and I'm sure none of you want to hear it you're probably already mad so let's just continue anyway let's move on to some of my more nits picky complaints before I get into the meat and potatoes first of all when you open the game it's going to be way too loud so naturally you want to go into the audio settings but guess what there is literally no audio options in the entire game normally in most video games there is a small menu with things like master volume voice volume music sound effects Etc so you can properly balance the sound but in this game if it's too loud the only thing you can do is physically turn down your TV or go into your audio settings on your PC this obviously isn't that big of a deal but like it is really annoying and I don't understand why there's not audio settings like I shouldn't have to ask for that Capcom what are you doing another weird complaint I have is that the menus force you to wait for their transition that are slightly too long like when you go into a game like Mega Man X5 you can just Spam the a button and Skip all the intro stuff and get into the game right into the action just like we want but in the actual Legacy Collection menus you were unable to do anything while a transition is going on which is really annoying if you have ADHD like I do obviously again this is not a big deal at all and I'm sure the comment section is going to roast me for this but I like mashing through menus and it's weird that I'm not able to this is also a problem in the X challenge mode once you pick your weapons and Press Start you have to watch the boss intro and wait for it to load which does look visually nice but I have pressed start before choosing my weapons multiple times and there is no way to back out and redo it until you load in fully into the fight this is once again a very Petty complaint but even in the classic Legacy Collection you're able to back out of the main menu whenever you want to even if the game is loading so this was a strange downgrade a few more nitpicky complaints is that there are significantly less background options than the original Legacy Collection which is weird since this game came out after on top of that the ability to fight bosses in the gallery was also removed and in my video on the original Legacy Collection I did make a mistake because I thought it was not a feature in the Legacy Collection one but it was actually a hidden feature which makes it way cooler in the X Legacy Collection however this was completely removed and I checked by pressing every single button so unless there's a cheat code I gotta put in there is no way to fight the bosses by looking at the gallery which again is a weird thing to remove since I mean everybody liked that but obviously it's not a deal breaker by any means also some people were expecting the Sega Saturn ports from Mega Man X3 which isn't here but to be honest I prefer the Super Nintendo version just because the only difference at all is the music and to me the Super Nintendo music is way better so sorry Sega Saturn fans sorry my last Niche picky complaints is that there are once again no extra unlockable games which is expected but I'm still disappointed when I talked about this in my video on the original Legacy Collection a lot of people got mad at me and tried to explain how that's unrealistic but let's be real guys if they had bonus games on both GameCube collections they could have easily had bonus games in these I don't know why battle and Chase specific was on the GameCube X collection and I am honestly glad that game is not on this one but I do wish we could have gotten extreme or Extreme 2 or X Command Mission or even Maverick under X since they did include the cutscene from that game anyway I honestly do not think that is an unrealistic request by any means but I also was not expecting any of these to be added but can we just imagine for a second how happy Mega Man fans will be if we got Maverick Hunter X in the XYZ collection one and commands Mission X in the X Legacy Collection too I think that's combo of games would have made the second XYZ collection so way better especially since most people consider that one to be objectively worse between the two but even if they split extreme one and two between those two games instead I still think it would have been basically the same effect and sell more copies of each game plus it's not like it would have been that hard considering Game Boy games are easy to emulate and they literally emulated PlayStation 2 games in the second collection which Command Mission X literally is I'm not a game developer obviously but is it not just one more PS2 ROM I mean come on I know they're scaling I know you gotta incorporate it into the game somehow but if you did that with X7 and X8 why can't you do it with X Command Mission it's the same type of game what are you doing but there is one more thing that bothers me a lot more than this that no one seems to be talking about which is the improper scaling of the games obviously the games look good especially if you aren't a hardcore fan or a video editor like I am but the games are scaled to 4x3 instead of eight by seven which really gets on my nerves I'll put footage of the original scaling and the Legacy Collection scaling on screen so you can see the difference it's not a huge problem but I don't understand why they didn't just scale it correctly the health bars look weird and as a YouTuber who uses lots of different footage and different types of gameplay I literally have to go in and re-stretch footage from the Legacy Collection to match footage from the Super Nintendo or from emulators the first time I ran into this issue I Googled it to make sure I wasn't crazy and I found one Reddit post complaining about it where everyone in the comment sections basically made fun of the op and said that they were being ridiculous and unreasonable but you know what I'm putting my foot down for Rick Reddit and their comment sections because they're full of casual gamers who have no no idea what they're talking about proper scaling of a game you are literally emulating is not at all too much to ask and anyone who says otherwise is dumb and probably needs to go buy some deodorant unless you're subscribed of course then you're just wrong you don't need deodorant and you're not stupid but you are wrong even if you're subscribed this is objectively incorrect I'm sorry I still love you if you're subscribed but come on anyway I'm not going to focus on this for too long because unless you're hyper sensitive to stuff like this it will not bother you but uh I am and it does bother me but another pretty big problem I have with this game is inside of the X challenge I love this game mode and I think it is a great idea but why is the X challenge Volume 2 basically the exact same thing if you were unaware the X Challenge from the First Legacy Collection is considered volume one and the one from the second is considered volume two but the only difference between these two versions is that the last fights from every level is different that's it which means two-thirds of these two versions are the exact same thing there is no excuse for this and it's just lazy I did some pretty basic math and just using Mavericks from X1 to X6 there are 1128 different combinations Capcom could have used yet they only have 37 unique fights between the two games with 19 of them being reused not to mention Capcom used some of these Sigma bosses as well meaning there are even more choices at their disposal yet they still chose to do this now sure I guess you could claim that they were more limited with balancing the game and making sure it's even possible but if Dynamo and gate is possible I'd argue any combination is possible with enough skill I guess you could also argue that Capcom wanted people who only bought one of the games to have the same experience for the most part but that's just a stupid argument especially when Capcom is the one who made these two separate in the first place this obviously does not ruin the experience of the X challenge but it is honestly baffling that Capcom didn't make it unique between the two games when there are only nine stages in the first place legitimately this might be the biggest sign of laziness in the entire X collection but that's still not I would consider to be the biggest problem the biggest problem to me is the lack of challenges no I do not mean the levels in the X challenge I mean there are no challenges like in the original Legacy Collection which was by far the best part now I know Capcom made the challenges significantly worse in the classic Legacy Collection too than they were in the first one so maybe Capcom just isn't good at making them but like literally get good Capcom are you kidding me this is your franchise how are you gonna let digital Eclipse outstand you it's Mega Man the Capcom made Mega Man what are you doing the main reason I was excited to play this collection when it was first announced was because I wanted to play the Mega Man X challenges the same way I played challenges in the classic games don't get me wrong the X challenge thing they added is still cool but it is nowhere near cool enough to replace the OG challenges the replay value alone on challenges is much higher for a myriad of reasons but since I'm not a game developer I'm not going to get into the details because I'd probably just botch the explanation just from a simple and practical standpoint though the original Legacy Collection had over 50 unique challenges that had great combinations of challenging sections from each of the games the X Legacy Collection has a few 2v ones that you're able to do which is still fun but it's all boss fights the original challenges had boss fights as well as stage challenges block puzzles and combinations of all three in the same level which is infinitely more speed runnable than a boss fight that relies heavily on RNG plus the boss battles are a lot more frustrating to deal with for many reasons but the most objective reason is that if you get stuck on a level or part of a level on these boss fights you have no choice but to keep trying it over and over or go back and play a stage you've already beat whereas in the original Legacy Collection if you got stuck on one challenge you could just go play another challenge to refresh yourself and continue to still complete new challenges without getting heated I seriously prefer the original challenges to the X challenge mode but I'm not going to outright say the X challenge is worse just because I guess that is subjective but I will say I am appalled and disgusted that the challenges were not included on top of the X challenge because if they were this would have been a nearly perfect collection and I probably wouldn't have even made this video in the first place or even if I did make this video anyway I would have titled it something else I wouldn't have called it the problem with the XYZ collection I would have just said it was a good game plus it is a little Annoying that X7 and XA to get no representation in the X challenge in any way obviously it makes sense because those games are in 3D but like since there are only 37 unique fights anyway they could have made some custom Sprites for like one or two Mavericks just for the fan service but I do at least understand why they did not do that also one more complaint about the X challenges that the health bars are once again scaled weirdly what happened to the good old days where one sliver of health bar equals one HP why do we have these weird half bars that only move down every other time you do damage obviously I understand one sliver now equals two HP but that's stupid and I'm not sorry to say it anyway enough ranting about the game let's end this video off by summarizing what Capcom could have done differently to make this collection perfect but first of all they obviously should have made this one big game and if the X challenge was still included which I do think it should have been they could have just added nine unique levels from the XYZ collection two into three additional stages on top of that they obviously should have added some challenges for us to play since that was the best part of the original collection and it would have been nice to get some secret game unlockables too like Maverick Hunter X or Command Mission X or even the extreme games there should also obviously CB audio options which I shouldn't have even had to mention and the menu transitions in Boss intros should be skippable because even though they do look great I don't want to watch them every single time it really adds up once you have hundreds of hours in this game trust me at least if you have ADHD I mean I don't know I I don't know guys I don't know about you normal people out there and for the love of Pete scale the dang games correctly Capcom you are an absolute Heathen for putting them in 4x3 instead of 8x7 and I will never for the life of me understand why you didn't do that but that's basically all Capcom would have needed to do to make this collection literally perfect meaning despite this giant video they actually did get fairly close I do enjoy this collection a lot I don't want anyone to think that I do not and I am honestly just happy they acknowledge the X Series in the first place X dive doesn't count by the way I am never playing that game that looks bad I don't want to play it it's stupid non-canon I would give this collection overall a solid 8 out of 10 but if it had challenges I would have given it a nine the museum is amazing as always and the achievements were a major improvement over the original games on top of that the menu design and the why it looks super nice and I am saying that as a professional Adobe certified graphic designer and Photoshop expert thank you very much the original compositions Capcom made for the menus are also an amazing touch and I'm surprised they went that far and put that much effort when they couldn't even add audio options again I love this collection and I play it all the time but it is hard not to notice a lot of these flaws if you're a hardcore fan like I am but if you are watching this video trying to decide if it's worth the purchase I'd say it's 100 is even if you've never played a Mega Man X game before because this is the most convenient way to play and try out all of these games plus this collection allowed me to play Mega Man X7 for the first time in my entire life which is uh wait a minute that wasn't good at all you know what I changed my mind this collection is a 0 out of ten do not buy it under any Circle that was the problem with the Mega Man X Legacy Collection I hope I didn't seem too harsh in this video by the way because I do enjoy the X Legacy Collection I play it all the time but more importantly I hope you guys enjoyed watching I might make a video like this in the future on the Zero collection or the Battle Network Collection if you guys really want to see it but uh I I haven't played those games ever so I guess I gotta play those games before I make those videos maybe I'll live stream if you guys want to see it comment down below but uh I I do have to play those games I I've never done it I want to but I I just haven't done it so live streams in the future maybe let me know in the comments that's that's that's the live stream dance I just I'll leave I gotta go
