so the power of the dog has just released to a strong reception from audiences and critics but what you might not know is just how difficult the film was to make and some of the lengths that the cast popular it is as a location for films that feature epic natural landscapes elizabeth moss was originally cast in the role of rose in the power of the dog having recently worked with director jane campion on the critically acclaimed mini-series top of the lake however moss was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with tycho watiti's new film next goal wins now i'm sorry i messed up was originally cast but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts as he was starring as the riddler in matt reeves film the batman dano did try to work out his schedule but was unsuccessful paving the wash for almost two weeks at the outset of the shoot cumberbatch was so committed to his performance that he even started chain smoking on set despite the fact that he had not smoked in real life for years as such he felt sick after each take and even suffered from nicotine poisoning three times during the film's production kirsten dunst was also very committed to her performance and got so much into her character that she refused to talk to benedict cumberbatch during filming benedict cumberbatch and kirsten dunst have both appeared in superhero movies produced by marvel cumberbatch plays doctor strange in the mcu and dunst has appeared as mary jane in sony's spider-man trilogy also cumberbatch is set to co-star in spider-man no way home where it's possible dunce could even make a cameo please we're safe to have the universe together i think we're beyond you calling me sir once filming began on the power of the dog on january 10th 2020 it was eventually cut short by the covert 19 pandemic with production being halted completely on june 22nd due to the covert delays cumberbatch and his family were forced to stay in new zealand for months under lockdown until filming could finally resume once lockdown had lifted upon returning to new zealand jesse plemons and kirsten dunst were forced to remain in hotel quarantine for two weeks with their children in order to legally return to set the power of the dog was invited to premiere at the 2021 cans film festival in an out of competition slot due to regulations relating to theatrical releases in france but netflix had so much faith in the movie that they refused to premiere out of competition and the film was withheld instead the film premiered in competition at the 2021 venice film festival the power of the dog is I watched it twice
and the end of the movie makes my cry a lot. Cant believe that they killed Ben's character!
But this movie is a real masterpiece! You should watch it
