The Parker Paper (a lost treasure) - Numberphile

9218 is your starting point regular viewers will be familiar with the number file brown paper we've used it in pretty much every video for the last 13 years that means the other what you might not know is that I've kept nearly every piece and recently I've started a huge project sorting them all out and I'm realizing it's going to take a while it's certainly been a trip down memory lane though I'm really enjoying it a lot of them I can't even remember the video but anyway there was one paper for which I could and it brought back particularly strong memories 1 23 41 3,51 that hasn't got a name I I don't want to call it the Parker Square because it doesn't work properly every be like oh That's a classic Parker Square or someone would do something that's almost right but not quite they go that's a real Parker Square kind of move so I'm not calling it The Parker Square mat you know what this video is I'm calling for crying out loud stop trying to make Parker Square a thing really I thought this one should return to its rightful home Brady for me for you that's for you I haven't I haven't even that's for you that's a present it's framed it's framed what is it I can't tell you how excited I am I know the high standard it takes you to frame something no I see numbers with squares on them oh my goodness is this the original is that is this it that's the original the original oh my goodness I thought this was lost to to humankind so did I that's amazing I found it on a big sort out of the brown papers no oh my goodness oh there's a it's been personalized on the back oh my goodness look at that look at that I'll have you know that is special Posh uh UV glass so that oh well future Generations will thank us yes oh look and bubble WP helping with the unwrapping that bubble wraps very popular you that's so good I want that above the bed at home wow that's never going to leave my sight up all right on your bed there we go good girl wow Matt's been such a good sport with the Parker [Music] Square let's do him a favor this month and pre-order a copy of his new book love triangle use the link in in the video description and you can get a personally signed copy with a limited edition extra dust jacket who doesn't want an extra dust jacket but for me back to work and it is where's this shape look at that and these are all right angles right angle right angle right angle this one at the top here that is some something with a infinite decimal expansion that's random um those are perfectly good numbers too and so what happens is that the square is there but almost every time you write one of these points down on it there's at least one coordinate that's just not going to be an integer has this surface got a name uh I no can I suggest one what would you like to call it the Parker surface that's awesome
