true [Music] despite the fame all the brothers had mixed fates from going bankrupt and losing 80 million dollars to battling multiple sclerosis and other health issues to almost losing a career because of marriage so how did they manage to deal with the struggles and will we ever have a chance to see them together again donnie osmond [Music] when donny got married his career was over and his father always warned him about it but could donny's wife be the reason for his failure donnie got married when he was only 20 [Music] and it changed his life because the fan girls couldn't accept his new marital status and even threatened to stop listening to his music from that moment on there were donnie osmond record burning parties after i got married oh yes there were there were and i completely understand it i get it because i realized when i got married i knew my career was going to go in the tanks and and it did things got so bad that he almost went bankrupt and disappeared from the public eye in the 1980s so what helped donny rise back to fame it was none other than his beloved wife deborah and five wonderful sons who supported his new career turn and now while in his early 60s donny decided to slow down his busy career and end his show in vegas with sister marie that lasted 11 years to spend more time with his 10 grandchildren and the day he turned 62 donny shared a rare photo of his entire family feeling really blessed he can now finally spend plenty of time with them i haven't had that opportunity since 2010. it's given me time to reflect on how important family and friends really are the singer wrote [Music] does he have any regrets marrying deborah after all not at all since they built such a strong family and have been happily married for 41 years merrill osmond merrill was the lead singer of the osmonds before his younger brother donny took center stage and if you think that donny's family is too large merrill was blessed with six kids and 15 grandkids he shares with his gorgeous wife of 46 years but the only thing that keeps him motivated even after spending 60 years on stage are the memories of his deaf brothers that once launched osmond's career but how did that trauma affect merrell's own family long after he took the stage to make money for his beloved brothers his own son was born with deafness i can't even begin to tell you how grateful i am that i had two deaf brothers because they molded us in different ways and they don't even know i have a deaf son justin so there's a genetic issue that goes through the family just imagine being born in a family like the osmonds and not being able to hear their precious voices and that's exactly what meryl's deaf son justin experienced throughout his childhood days so how did meryl help his child overcome it even having hearing problems justin managed to learn how to play the violin piano and drums now he uses special hearing aids and works with his father for several funds and organizations to help people with disabilities around the world justin even once ran 250 miles in a week to raise money for deaf kids and raise awareness i wanted to run for hearing i wanted to run to make a difference yeah and i knew that there were 25 deaf children on the other side of utah that needed some hearing aids merrill taught his son how to turn even the hardest challenges into blessings and help the ones in need and that's why meryl not only inspires people on stage but remains a role model for all fathers alan osmond being the oldest of the group allen was always his brother's leader writing many of their famous hits but behind the scenes his life was full of struggles so what is the battle he desperately tries to win alan osmond has been fighting ms for 32 years when his diagnosis first went public the press wrote that he was sick and dying but giving up was never an option for him because he quickly realized that the only way for him to survive is to accept this hard battle and fight back with all the powers that he had and you fight it come on back and i'm not going to take it sitting down that's why i throw my cane down and then and fall if i have to but i'm going to try but alan's life turned upside down when his son david was diagnosed with ms2 14 years ago so how did he help his child in this unequal battle allen's only motto was never to let his disability take advantage of him no matter what and that's why he taught his son a wise lesson yes i still have ms but it doesn't have me and i think that has been a real strong point that i've tried to pass on to david with that in mind david not only managed to get out of his wheelchair but built a music career and became a strong advocate for ms awareness with such a strong father behind him and the will to help people david realized that this diagnosis became one of the greatest things in his life i feel like it's given me this fresh perspective on life and i'm a young guy i got a lot more life to live but i feel like i'm living a much more richer and fuller life now because i've learned to not focus on the disability but on the ability even though ms made alan osmond leave the stage he stays not only a great father and husband but also continues to write songs not letting his diagnosis define his life and the desire to create jimmy osmond [Music] being the youngest member of the osmond family jimmy already had a hit single by the age of nine and the family didn't spoil him his life was also full of personal struggles jimmy suffered his second stroke last year how did it affect his health and views on life the whole situation made jimmy stop performing and leave the thing he loved since childhood despite that he learned how to appreciate life in all its colors feeling himself the happiest he's been in years despite all the health scares [Music] i am enjoying life and this long overdue break i am so grateful for my health and for your kindness and prayers he wrote in a heartfelt post and who helped him recover after the stroke jimmy always said that you need extra help and people to motivate you and give your life meaning and for the youngest osmond it was his beloved family and strong faith in god that he relied on i needed to do it for them and for my brothers and sister if you don't love yourself look around at who you do love and do it for them so what is jimmy osmond doing now even though we all know jimmy as a gifted singer he's always been a cartoonist and had a lot of passion for writing stories especially for children that hobby turned into a new profession for him as he managed to publish a few family books and who is the beautiful family of little jimmy jimmy osmond has been happily married to his wife michelle for 27 years with whom he has four kids and they are the people who will always stay by his side no matter how hard life hits him osmond wayne was the best musician out of all of his brothers but dealt with major health problems the most so what was the moment when he almost lost his life wayne osmond survived brain cancer and even though it hasn't returned since 1997 it negatively affected his health in many ways he almost lost his hearing because of the harsh treatments he needed to defeat the disease but did he embrace the challenge he had to face now wayne thinks it's really ironic because he always was the one who helped his brothers tune the instruments when they were young it's funny wayne osmond recalls with a smile but i had the best ears in our family but was the hearing loss wayne's last problem despite going through so many hardships fate hit him with another blow when he was 61. seven years ago wayne suffered a major stroke which deprived him of the ability to play guitar so how does he manage to smile after all of that wayne was always one of the most optimistic members of the osmond family who relied on his faith now he really enjoys his privacy as he stepped out of the limelight to be with his wife of 45 years and even found a new love in his beautiful garden i've had a wonderful life he admits now my favorite thing now is to take care of my yard i turn my hearing aids off deaf as a doorknob tune everything out it's really joyful [Music] if there's anything wayne loves more than his backyard it's his amazing grandchildren because who wouldn't want to have a grandad like this [Music] jay osmond when jay was just a little kid he managed to impress walt disney himself by losing his fake mustache and now decades later and growing his own facial hair he remains a brilliant drummer but what distinguishes him from his other brothers unlike most of the osmonds jay's marriage ended in divorce after 24 years until he found himself a new love and married again five years ago now jay is a happy father of three amazing sons who also blessed him with a few grandchildren and even after decades of making music he continues to explore new horizons as now jay is working on a musical about the osmond family he promises to tell the true unvarnished story of his beloved siblings no sugarcoating it the story as it's been told before has been too sugary jay says about the scripts he writes i wanted to tell the story of how hard it was and how wonderful the journey was and he still looks up to his brothers for inspiration praising the hardships they survived even though he saw what alan wayne and jimmy went through in terms of their health he thinks now they're happier than ever those guys are extremely content with where their life is the pressure's off and they can live the way they want jay says without hesitation and don't you think it'd be amazing to see the whole story of the osmonds as a musical [Music] family issues and almost going broke despite all the success and living in the limelight for most of their lives the osmond brothers always stayed a normal family behind the scenes [Music] jimmy osmond once confessed that they also had ups and downs saying that their busy schedule sometimes took its toll on them we used to be in each other's lives so much and i love them all so much but now everybody's got their own little pod and their own families and we don't get together anymore like we used to on tv but did the fame and money affect the family being in showbiz for so long left its mark on them as the osmonds feuded a little because of their egos and competitiveness and how did they almost lose all their millions when the osmonds were at the peak of their fame they suddenly found themselves on the verge of bankruptcy losing 80 million dollars of earnings we were good at entertaining and not business we ended up hiring people to look after the money and then we wondered what happened despite losing money why did the osmonds call it the best thing that ever happened to them the situation helped the brothers to refocus and made them appreciate what they still had money can't buy happiness and that's why the osmonds never forget that first of all they are brothers and not just faces on a screen the osmond's retirement after spending 60 years on stage the osmonds announced the sad news to millions of fans so why do they decide to retire from performing it happened when their sister marie decided to make her 60th birthday really special and asked her siblings to perform together for the very last time the family has been through a lot of struggles and after all the health issues it's hard for some of them to sing on stage like back in the day but four original osmonds couldn't miss the chance to reunite for their only sister's anniversary and shower marie with their sweetest wishes you're precious to me i love you with all of my heart don't ever change your change in the world i have always loved being your big sister their performance was so remarkable that it moved millions of fans to tears after they saw their favorite singers together for the last time but is it really the end of the osmonds careers while alan wayne and jimmy won't sing anymore to finally enjoy the retirement they all deserve the other brothers have no plans to stop at all meryl still has a busy schedule entertaining fans all around the world and going on sold out tours and his brother jay also continues to share the stage with him as now they both enjoy the company of alan's gifted son david who
