you must believe me when I tell you that I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility without the help and support of the woman I love before we start I I want to make a very important disclaimer this is not a defense of Wallace Simpson this is simply a presentation of an alternate version of the story which sets her apart from Meghan Markle in quite a significant way the reason I found it important to make this disclaimer is because Wallace and Edward well they had a bit of a questionable relationship with the Nazis at the time so we're examining here the personal relationship between Wallace and Edward and not really their political affiliations and the Social Circles that they were a part of questionable as they may have been personally I didn't know much about Wallace other than the mainstream idea of her being the reason that England lost a king in the 1930s recently since I've been in France I came across a number of documentaries that explored this other side of Wallace a version of herself and a version of the relationship that she had with Edward which was so drastically different from what we know today especially given the nature of the relationship that has been playing out between Megan and Harry over the past few years this version of the story is told To Us by Wallace Simpson threw a series of 15 letters that Wallace had written around the time of the abdication to her second husband Ernest Simpson and to one of the closest people that she ever had her aunt Bessie when Megan came onto the scene a lot of parallels were immediately drawn between her and Wallace and one would say naturally so since they actually do have quite a few things in common they're both American the obvious both divorced both 34 turning 35 when they met their future husbands and they were both relatively unknown socialites essentially before they became the women the famous women that they are today I also want to add based on the extensive research I've done they were both very determined and very eager to climb the social ladder and to reach the top echelons of human society now with these parallels some people actually think that Meghan Markle welcomes them and I wasn't really convinced until I saw a few instances where she essentially cosplayed Wallace Simpson and get this the car that drove Megan to her wedding was the car that drove Wallace Simpson to her husband husband's funeral in 1972. I think I have heard that she actually chose the car herself which makes it all the more creepy because it's like she was telling them basically what to expect out of her now if you believe the mainstream more popular story about Wallace the parallels between her and Megan continue and they never cease to end they're both cruel materialistic they wanted all the glamor all the jewels all the clothes all the travel and the holidays and all the titles and most of all they targeted weak-minded men who would do their bidding and much like Megan there was a time when Wallace was indeed the most reviled woman in all of England except one of them we know for sure because we've seen it play out in real time earned herself that title based on her incessant bad behavior whereas the other the original depending on which version you believe may have actually been the victim the scapegoat in the entire scenario Wallace was with her second husband Ernest Simpson when they moved from the United States to settle down in London now Ernest was actually half English and so he had Roots there there they both were very eager to climb up the social ranks and so they started befriending networking rubbing shoulders with important people who can open up doors for them to raise their own standing in society sound familiar yes it was the 20th century version of Soho House eventually Wallace and Ernest hit the jackpot when Wallace's old friend Thelma invited her to a gathering and it wasn't just any old gathering the Future King happened to be there and it wasn't a happy coincidence no Thelma who was a married woman at the time was Edward's mistress now whether Wallace orchestrated this meeting in the way Meghan Markle would for example is unknown to me all we know is that she secured that invite from a mutual friend now things didn't really get very heated between Wallace and Edward until Thelma had to go back to the United States for a while and asked Wallace get this to look after the little man wait they're Americans to look after the little men and look after him she did poor Thelma came back from the United States and it became crystal clear to her that Wallace was uh the prince's new girl be careful what you ask of your friends I guess now it's important to remember that Ernest and Wallace were pretty much operating as a couple throughout this entire time and yes by that I mean he was happy for his wife to be the future King's mistress and he apparently made a joke saying that he'd exchanged his own wife for a fancy Tweed coat because Edward had given him a bunch of unused Tweed to create a replica coat that Ernest had admired on Edward but it was all a joke to them Wallace confirms this when she writes a letter to her aunt Bessie and says the following he Being Earnest thinks it's all a great joke and so it is and I think it's very important to mention very early on that this is where things really started to go wrong for Wallace and Ernest because they saw the prince's growing attachment for Wallace but they still let it happen because they wanted to have their cake and eat it too Wallace was being taken away to what her husband Ernest deemed the realm of fairy tales endless holidays and cruises dripping in jewelry that Edward would lay down at her feet at the altar of Wallace this queen pun very much unintended believe it or not but even Wallace thought that one day especially when he becomes king he'll soon Tire of her on the 20th of January 1936 well into this Wallace Simpson and Edward Affair the King George V passed away and of course with that Edward was declared King Edward VII I do have to say now that Edward actually does have a few parallels with Harry and I'm not just talking about the weak-mindedness and just bending to the will of their wife they were both very popular very beloved very adored by the public and seen as this breath of fresh air a rebel Prince as it were however unlike Harry Edward was the heir to the throne and so his family wasn't exactly all that thrilled by his lack of I suppose adherence to tradition he was the exact opposite of his father who was a traditionalist to the very end and who rejected Wallace the idea of Wallace Simpson was repellent to Edward towards parents and to Parliament and to anyone involved in the royal family and now that's a stark difference between how Meghan Markle was very much adored and welcomed by the royal family they made so many concessions for her and did things that they never did for Catherine for example such as inviting her over for the Christmas walkabout and Christmas lunch when she was merely a fiancee so when Edward becomes king Wallace is seemingly from this letter quite surprised but still flattered that the king now wanted her at his side at all times she wrote to her aunt Bessie I've had to be at the new King's beck and call he's lonely and needs companionship and affection otherwise he goes wrong Ernest has of course been marvelous about it he has the makeup of a saint and much too good for the likes of me but Earnest at this point was tiring of this game so one day Ernest shows up to the king and asks him man to man and what are your intentions with Wallace and the King tells him what are you are you serious she's going to be my wife now at the same time Wallace who was still enjoying the attentions of the king but was still holding her breath for the day that she gets replaced by a young Beauty as she called it she felt bad for Ernest and so she recruited someone to keep him company while she enjoyed the attentions of the king now that someone was a long time friend of hers yes another one called Mary Mary was invited to spend time with Ernest and lo and behold they fell in love much to Wallace's dismay by the way now with this new development of the king's getting Mary Wallace something had to be done about that pesky little obstacle between the king and his new bride her current marriage a lot of people like to say that Wallace was twice divorced when she met the king oh no she was actually quite happily married whether they were in love or not Wallace and Ernest definitely were very affectionate towards one another and I truly believe that they thought that they would just get back together and be at this much better place you know socially and Carry On and grow all together they weren't in on the Peter Pan plan and yes that's what they called Edward Peter Pan because he was just this little boy who refused to grow up now the first step of this Peter Pan plan was to secure a divorce between Wallace and Ernest and this is where things start to get really serious really fast for Wallace and we start to see hints of her hesitation her fear her ambivalence and her reluctance to participate in this Peter Pan plan and proceed any further and I want you to know that the decision I have made has been mine and mine alone the other person most nearly concerned has tried up to the last to persuade me to take a different cause for whatever reason Wallace and Earnest both agree to this divorce and so the plan was to catch Earnest in bed with someone else and that would have been more than enough grounds for Wallace to successfully seek a divorce in Britain at the time luckily for them Ernest had Mary and while the identity of this woman had been kept secret for decades we later learned that it was actually Mary Kirk like I said though Wallace starts getting cold feet she starts freaking out news of the relationship between her and Edward was actually kept Hush Hush for years in Britain until the Nolan cruise this cruise that they went on one summer where for whatever reason the media decided to unleash Wallace couldn't hide anywhere the coverage was negative by the way and so the people despised her at one point it became far too much for her and she decided invited to run away now interestingly most of these uncovered letters were addressed to Earnest the man who she was supposed to despise for cheating on her but I think what had happened was this realization that Ernest was the man she loved but it was a realization that was had too late she pens a letter to Ernest and tells him ernestier I shouldn't be able to see you after all for which I am very sorry but I have decided to go away sometime this week I cannot tell hm I'm going because I know what would happen so I'm really simply telling him the old search for Hat story I shall stay safely away until after the coronation or perhaps forever one cannot tell she even went as far as writing a letter to Edward himself telling him I must really return to Earnest for a great many reasons which please be patient and read the first being that we're so awfully congenial and understand getting on together very well which is really an art in marriage I'm sure you and I would only create disaster together I want you to be happy I feel sure I can't make you so and I honestly don't think you can me to which the king responded with I will effing and this is where people start going well why did she stay why did she care about whether he would kill himself or not I think many things come into play first of all everyone already knew about their relationship at the time Edward was not shy about it and he probably would have left behind some kind of a note some kind of a letter basically the media would have known which means the media was going to publish it and Wallace would be even more reviled and suddenly an entire country an entire Commonwealth is going to blame one woman for the loss for the death of a king a brand new king nonetheless there was also the fact that she needed a man to take care of her she didn't have a job she didn't have any other source of income and I think that could also be why she really wanted to make sure that Ernest was there as a plan b or as a fallback for when this fairy tale when the King was over which she genuinely believed it one day would be now that Ernest was out of the picture and now that he was in love with Mary and they eventually ended up getting married by the way she had no one else to fall back on she grew up poor so she had no family wealth or inheritance to speak of and she was already in her 40s at this time so to her I truly believe she felt like she had her back against the wall and had no other option but to stick with Edward because at least he would provide for her he would keep her and she would also I suppose selfishly maintain this high level of social status that she's craved her entire life it wasn't the love story that we were all made to believe it was and it definitely didn't come without its casualties in one of the last letters that Wallace penned to Earnest she says ernestier what can I say when I'm standing beside the grave of everything that was us only oh my very dear dear Earnest I can only cry as I say farewell and press your hand very tightly and pray to God wherever you are you can be sure that never a day goes by without some hours thought of you and for you and again in my prayers at night oh dear wasn't life lovely sweet and simple now all of these confessions of Love weren't one-sided and that's where you start thinking wow these people probably didn't really realize how much they cared about each other until it was too late which is quite tragic on its own in one of his final letters to Wallace Ernest says I think something in me quietly died when I closed the door for the last time this evening I have no tears left to shed I know that somewhere in your heart there is a small flame burning for me got it carefully my darling and don't let it go out someday I pray God will fan it into a blaze again and bring you back to me now while the divorce proceedings were going on and six months after they were concluded Wallace and Edward couldn't be together and this was because if they were ever seen together so soon after the divorce or even during then that could be evidence of collusion which at the time was illegal it was illegal to collude to lead to a divorce basically but the Peter Pan plan progressed exactly as Edward wanted it to I either marry the woman I love who is my queen or I abdicate and we all know exactly which option he was left with because Parliament was not having it and neither was a church of England by the way a twice divorced woman no way in hell after the abdication Edward joined Wallace in France they were married in a very small very intimate ceremony where no one from Edwards family joined them Edward was reported to have been heartbroken but also angry she was made the Duchess of Windsor by the way but she was never her Royal Highness much to Edward's displeasure he actually spent pretty much the rest of his life writing intermittently insisting that his family styled Wallace with hrh which never happened so again another difference between Megan and Wallace Megan was her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex pretty much since the day they were married and even though she's not allowed to use hrh anymore that was because they quit and no it's not racism because if it were racism why did they Grant her the hrh title to begin with another major component and I'm about to finish off here is the cruelty that Wallace demonstrated or subjected Edward II for the rest of their lives together but what's not really touched upon is Edward's thirst for it many people who were around them at the time were interviewed and asked about this strange almost mother child dynamic between the couple which is another parallel with Megan and Harry because a lot of people talk about how Megan is this domineering almost mother figure to Harry in a very creepy way but with Harry there really is no inclination of him enjoying it but with Edward there is a lot of evidence to suggest that that's actually the quality that attracted him to Wallace and kept him hooked on her he just loved it it really riled him up every time Wallace was cruel to him and she quickly learned that he responded well to her cruelty as it were at least to begin with because I truly think she grew resentful as the years passed because she felt that she was essentially Shackled to this man against her will and at the end of it supposedly wasn't even there when he died but we have these bossy little notes that she would send him whenever they had people over and Edward just lapped it up in one of these notes while they're on holiday she says David I didn't see a green vegetable on the menu sorry to bother you but I like everyone to think you do things well perhaps I'm quite fond of you David I think it would be nice to have drinks on the porch outside the drawing room I also think you're a very nice boy [Music] the rest of the story plays out pretty much in the way that we all know it they remain together for the rest of their lives pretending that they were this happy couple and she really fed into that the love story of the century narrative I think there were moments when the mask slipped and when you can see exactly what she felt about her husband but at least it was masked behind a smile when the Duke died in 1972 Wallace actually went back to England and buried him there and pretty much buried the hatchet and as for Wallace she lived out the rest of her days in France being very ill and eventually passed away in 1986 I was born around a decade after she died so yeah very interesting it's always very interesting to think about the lives that people led before we even existed the reason I wanted to make this video was because it illustrates this version of events that really sets Wallace apart from Megan because so far all the parallels have always been you know they're exactly the same you know this couple Who removed themselves from the royal family and went abroad and lived out the rest of their lives alone on their own terms there is another alternate version where Wallace wanted all of this to happen until she realized she wasn't going to become Queen and that's when she started having cold feet and didn't want anything to do with Edward anymore so Wallace would only be set aside from Megan if you believe her version of events which is none of this was meant to happen this was meant to be a fling and nothing more but let me know what you all think in the comments below I'm a huge fan of History I really wanted to dress up a little bit and take us all back to what was supposedly the love story of the 20th century I hope you all enjoyed it and if you didn't well I enjoyed making it all right that's it thanks for watching I'll catch you in the next one bye-bye
