these are the items that you shouldn't buy first off they're not code approved okay but it's what they are they're kind of make you can make an offset with them and angle with them and stuff but the big problem is you can get things clogged up in them and you can you know they're just you know you shouldn't use them horizontally they'll catch a lot of debris and stuff so you do not want to use these people buy these because they think that they can if the drain does not line up this will make life a lot easier on it but they really don't they can be tough to put in you've got to make sure everything's straight when you do it if you make an offset so these are not easy if you're going to do it you might as well do it the right way now let me show you how you want to do it hi my dad jim has been a plumber for 48 years he's a master plumber in michigan and c36 licensed plumbing contractor in california he has saved my wife and i thousands of dollars but you just gotta watch out he gets a little bit grumpy when he's giving advice so don't piss him off okay this is when you're hooking up your bathroom sink nowadays we pretty much use inch and a half p-traps okay this is a p-trap plastic makes life easy unless you've got an exposed like a pedestal sink that's when you'd use a chrome okay but otherwise this is what you use this goes up and connects the one with the nut out this had to be a flange but you put this on to extend it down to the trap and then the trap goes into the wall straight in might be on an angle but that's how you make it work very easy to do it's not always easy to line up but you've got to try to make it usually if there's a if it was newly plumbed that they will put it on center of the drain not any more than two inches off center right or left so it kind of makes it easy and it's made to go right into the trap adapter that's in the wall you'd cut it off here for the distance between the wall sometimes you have to put an extension on but you use an extension that does not have that coordinate on it okay if you have an older one there a lot of times there'll be a pipe you can cut it off you can put maybe an angle on it a 22 degree to make the angle go off a little bit and make that easier and put the pipe but you try to make sure that you can hook it up as easy as possible or the offset catches too much debris this you don't want to catch any debris one thing too is a p-trap never plugs i mean they're so rare to have a trap plug they only plug on tv when they're trying to sell drain cleaner okay we're going to talk about the kitchen sink drain and the garbage disposal here's your garbage disposal right here and then you go and if you have another compartment okay this will hook up the other basket strainer it comes out of straight out of the garbage disposal over to this tea which is called a baffle key and then this the other basket drops in here a baffle tea we can show you is a tea that has a divider in one for the top the drain is coming down from the top and then it shows the one for the side coming in so you have the top drain coming in and back this is stops when you run the garbage disposal the water the waste water will not back up into the other sink now if you have a one hole kitchen sink you're going to use a 90 degree elbow that comes with the garbage disposal when you have a two compartment sink with two basket strainers on this is the device that you would use on it okay the one would come down from up on the one side into here and then the other basket would tie into here and then you go out with your trap okay your trap if you're re-plumbing your trap you want to either make it you go from center right to one basket about eight inches left to the other basket which is eight inches you find out the size of the kitchen sink the sink is usually a 32 inch sink is normal and the baskets would be eight inches right of center and the other one would be eight inches left of center and then tie it up put the bat p trap on it and into the wall so that your drain is off centered on either the right side or the left side once again these are what you don't use you don't use these accordion connections i mean you're going to use them i know you're going to use them because i you know i can't trust you but you know make life easier but you make things you know at least keep the drain cleaning guy out of your kitchen okay and if you don't believe me ask the mailman he's usually there every day [Music] [Music]
