skateboarding and today we're doing nines the nines that we are doing today is a number nine and it is the one that we are doing it's the ninth it is the nine most iconic skateboard artists of all times get this it's numbered from most mediocre to the absolute best and that is the number one and the number one is the number one there's nothing you can do about it as always with these nines videos we are putting in our absolute personal opinion and get this clearly you guys have an opinion sometimes we care sometimes you don't but let us know below who would have made your list and whether our number one should have been the number one number nine ed templeton ed templeton's art career started with the new deal cat graphic at that time ed was one of the first ones putting his own art on boards he was designing his own pro boards on new deal but then eventually left to start toy machine with toy machine he's always done all the art for it which is probably the main reason why toy machine is so successful even to this day is the artist consistent and it's awesome you can see ed templeton's doodle art in most of their graphics and ads and one of the cool things is that even though he's still doing a ton of skateboard art he's also transitioned into fine art he's had his art in some of the biggest and most well-known art galleries all over the world as well as he's well known by a lot of the big artists in the world ed has also had multiple art books published and coming up he's got a book with his skateboard photography from all over the years coming soon the book is going to be called wires crossed number eight is evan hecox evan has done a lot of the chocolate artwork over the years and his art is kind of synonymous with the brand he's well known for it they're well known for it he's known for his bold lines and poppy colors and a lot of his art is well known and collected by most skateboard collectors over the years he's also famous for drawing the chocolate font which everyone knows and loves number seven dawn pendleton pendleton's artwork is sewn into the dna of alien workshop you've probably seen it he started working for them in ohio as they were blowing up in the late 90s after becoming famous for his art with alien workshop he then left and went to work for element for a while you might have seen these element boards and thought that they had a hint of alien workshop influence and that's because of his artwork he's also done work for vulcan oakley stance and mountain dew he's now started a brand called dark room and it has a cult-like following with huge fans of his artwork number six neil blender skateboarding hall of famer and one of the first ever pros to do their own graphics neil blazed the way for many pros to follow because he had music art skateboarding all blended together he had this persona or this culture that he had built around him everyone wanted to be like him and everyone wanted to be him it started in his original pro board in 1982 with gns skateboards and ever since then he's done his own pro graphics as normal of an idea as it is right now for pros to design their own boards back then it was a crazy idea and the cool thing about it is his art became as famous as his skateboarding did neil was the first writer for alien workshop and he did a ton of graphics for them nowadays he started his own brand called transportation unit number five sean cliver sean was originally hired by pal peralta in their heyday to do our work for them the ray barbie rag doll graphic the frankie hill bulldog graphic as well as many others he later defected and he went over to the world industries camp if he knew anything about that story that's a big deal he then made a lot of their iconic boards in the 90s he did the chico nude beach the 101 charles manson a bunch of boards for hookups and blind and he also designed stuff for supreme cliver now uses his poppy artwork on his new little board brand that kind of has a cool following called paisley skates number four is jim phillips the man behind the santa cruz logo and a lot of their early artwork he's famous for the santa cruz screaming hand the roscott face and the controversial independent logo he also created graphics for crazy well-known skateboarders like jason jesse jeff grosso christian de soy salba nattis and many more he's also kind of famous in the music world for doing band posters most notably for people like jimi hendrix number three is vernon cortland johnson or vcj he designed the very first pro model paolo peralta board he drew the skull and sword graphic for ray bones rodriguez he continued on by designing some of the most iconic skateboard artwork of all time including the tony hawk bird skull mike mcgill skull and snake lance mountain future primitive pear willender nordic skull mike valeli elephant he created the look and feel of the brand in early paolo peralta he created the art culture that was behind it later on he left but now he's come back to the brand and is doing graphics for them creating super awesome graphics most notably recently is the andy anderson graphic number two mark gonzalez you might know mark gonzalez for pioneering street skating but he also became famous for his artwork later on in life over the years mark gonzalez art has become super famous he's published art books done paintings he's done photography books poetry art installations and he's most famous for his sculptures and paintings he's also partnered with deluxe to start his own skateboard brand called crooked which features all of his artwork he's also one of the very few skateboarders that does art that has transcended from putting his art on skateboards to fine art that is in galleries all over the world a lot of his art even sells for tens of thousands of dollars and it's featured in upscale new york art galleries donald trump is actually rumored to be an avid mark gonzalez artwork collector but mark hasn't commented on it number one you can argue it even if you comment below we probably won't even look at it the number one most iconic skateboard artist of all time mark mckee his skateboard art has been some of the most controversial skateboard artwork of all time and his art has actually defined an entire generation of skateboarding in the 90s you could pick out his artwork by the bright poppy cartoon looking artwork that was almost an offensive version of disney artwork he even made it under our wall of fame at the back here over the years he designed the natas devil warship board the deer george series with blind skateboards guy mariano accidental gun death board jason lee american icons mike valelli barnyard he's also the creative genius
