- [Dave] Well the nest is an issue. - [Jamieleigh] The bird
has taken over the cat toy. (laughter) - [Brian] The thing is, it
just recently started, right? And we don't-- - [Girl] She's a sweetheart. - [Brian] But I wanted you to see it. - [Dave] No, that's all. That's really beneficial. (upbeat music) - [Jamieleigh] Wow, look at you. (TV plays in background) - [Brian] That's where she
started (muffled speaking). (muffled speaking) - [Brian] Rio! Better work it out today. Okay, so let's change
the environment in sip. Ashley and I will step out. - [Jamieleigh] Okay. - [Brian] And why don't
you grab, you have treats? - [Dave] Mm-hmm. - [Brian] I'm just going to shut the door so that's not even an issue for her. Hey, sweetheart, what you doing? Come here. Rio! (Whistles) - [Jamieleigh] It's probably
just the dynamic of everybody. - Hi, here you go. Good girl. What you doing? - [Jamieleigh] If you
have target trained her I would probably suggest
targeting her original cage if you asked her to come over. I would probably do that and
see if she's even receptive. 'Cause I agree that she's just giving you aggressive behavior. She's definitely not receptive. Okay, I'm gonna try leaving
and see if that changes the dynamic for you to
have more success with her. - A little bicycle-tricycle
thing and going down the hallway and seeing if free-flight
centrally is the ultimate goal. But just being that
extra family pet that's-- - [Jamieleigh] Able to
be included and more. - Able to be included, to cuddle-- (Parrot screeching) - And just be a part of the family. - [Jamieleigh] Yeah. - Really, essentially. I know I've taken her from a better place, 'cause that was her cage that she was in. The one in there. We do have a cage outside too. - Our hardest challenge is trying to match your expectations with-- - [Jamieleigh] The allotted time. - With the timeline and what's realistic. - [Brian] Sure. - And based on your
travel schedule and stuff, some people, we had one that was like, "Well we just thought you'd show up and the bird would be better." - [Brian] No, no, no. (laughter) - When I'm home, it's more than me. So she knows that I'm
potentially the mate, per se. - [Dave] Yeah. - 'Cause she will do the
regurgitating on me and not Matt. - [Jamieleigh] Mm-hmm, okay. - And that's one other
thing that I've noticed too. She wants to grab your
dumber finger and do the-- - [Jamieleigh] Yeah regurgitate on it. - Regurgitate to on it, yeah. - [Jamieleigh] Kind of do the feeding. - Yep, do the feeding. So, wow. I can probably get her out now. She's-- - [Jamieleigh] Okay. - I don't know if you want to watch too. - [Jamieleigh] Yeah. - And we're actually good. - [Jamieleigh] That's cool. We can actually watch on here, babe. She's super hormonal. - [Dave] Almost seem like
the room's not helping. - [Jamieleigh] We could get her outside. I think that would be the very
thing to snap her out of it. I think she moved away from him. (Laughter) - [Brian] Not a chance in hell, no! (Laughter) - [Jamieleigh] I can't see that from here. - [Ashley] All right, Jamie, your turn. - [Jamieleigh] Oh man! - [Dave] There's no way. - [Jamieleigh] What did she do? - It was as aggressive as if
she'd had babies in there. - [Jamieleigh] Oh, wow. Okay
- Yeah. It was like no possibility. - I'm going in now. - [Cameraman] Tag team right here. - Well, if she doesn't like you, she just doesn't like you near her area. Golly. Hey. Actually, maybe we should do that stick. Can you grab me that target? Hi. You come over here. You can videotape on
the actual camera thing. Hi. Can you come here? Hello. Hi. Will you come? You're here. You're all the way right here. Will you come? Hi. Wow, look at you. She's like communicating to me to pet her. Can you see that? - [Cameraman] Mm-hmm. - Do you wanna come? Will you come? Look what I have. Look what I have. Well, she's the master. - [Cameraman] She's like, thanks for the free head scratches. - I know, right? - Can you come? She really does love those head scratches. Hey, can you come? Okay, let me change this up. What happened? What happened? What was all that? Can you come? - [Brian] (muffled speaking) Since May. End of May.
- [Dave] Since May. When you first said it, it sounded like you had her and you got rid
of her and then took her back? - [Brian] No, we've always had her. - [Dave] Okay. - [Brian] We re-homed her. - [Dave] Got it. Okay. - [Jamieleigh] Yeah, so she's
not super happy about it. - Yep. Wanna come up? - She just wants to be pet. - [Brian] Come here. Good girl. Rio. - [Jamieleigh] She's like,
are you up to something? - [Brian] She's never that (mumbles). - [Jamieleigh] He did it. So, did she step straight
onto your shoulder? Not onto your hand? - I went, I extended it out the branch. So she went here. - [Jamieleigh] Okay, she
walks herself up there. - [Dave] Will she go down or
you have to scrape her off? - I have to scrape her off. (Dave laughs)
Ready for this? - Yeah.
- Even if she is. Come on, come on. We got a new one. Come on. - [Jamieleigh] Can I help? - [Dave] Let me at least
get a little more video. - Actually you know what, the mic stand one. That perch will probably. - Will you come to me? Come. Good. I'm sorry, I don't allow
the shoulder thing. (laughs) No, I don't trust that. But you can give her one if you want. (laughs) - Rio. - [Jamieleigh] Yeah, I don't think so. (Dave laughs) Sorry. I'm like, "I'm not doing
that, but if you want..." Sorry. - [Dave] Hello. Oh, you don't like me. - [Jamieleigh] She
really doesn't like you. I don't really see incentive
for wanting the treat. - I love the smell of
Macaws, blue and gold. You need to bottle that and spray it. - [Jamieleigh] She doesn't
really seem to care about the treats right now. - Have you played around
at the top treats? Like favorite treats?
- [Jamieleigh] Yeah, he has them over here. - Yeah, I see you have many. Do you know what her favorite is? - [Brian] Top is the almonds. - [Jamieleigh] That shelled almond, yeah. - [Brian] The shell
that she loves to break. - Okay.
- [Brian] Yeah. Usually she'll break the shell. - [Jamieleigh] Eat it. - [Brian] Little ones
is a (muffled speaking). - [Jamieleigh] Yeah. - [Brian] But you gotta be really good because she'll take your hands off if 'cause they're small, right?
- [Jamieleigh] Yes. - [Brian] So by this point in time, no. - [Jamieleigh] Okay. And how have you guys gotten
her to fly in the past? Is it just been something
that she just does and you guys are like, "Oh wow!" - [Brian] Yeah, just like, oh shit. (laughs)
- [Jamieleigh] Okay. It's not something that
there is a specific thing that you did that made her go? - [Brian] Nothing, no. - What is the, is it a closed leg band? It is.
- [Brian] It is. And I can't read it. - [Jamieleigh] Oh, is it just really rubbed off or something? - [Brian] Yeah.
- And it's, look at it, Jamie. I've never seen one like this. - [Brian] Is that where you want to go? - [Dave] She's like, "Yeah." - [Brian] Yeah, see? - [Jamieleigh] Yep. We just don't see this with pet birds. Not like this. - [Brian] Yeah. - I really want to pet you.
(laughter) I do. I know you don't want it, but. - [Jamieleigh] Come meet the dog. (laughter) Are you still nice here? - [Dave] With her people.
- Huh? - [Dave] When she is with her people? - Yeah. I think she's-- - [Dave] Does not include me. (laughter) - [Dave] She likes you. - Yeah. - [Brian] Told you,
girls with blonde hair. (laughter) Does it every time. - [Dave] Got me. - [Ashley] Another life, maybe. - Another life. Oh my gosh. She's acting so much more normal. Like sadly, normal in this situation. She's staring at her feet,
she's like doing typical blue and gold Macaw behavior. - [Dave] She's almost like more interested in interaction with you there. - I wonder if I could get her to target. Wanna target? No, no, no, no, no. She doesn't trust that at all, here. - [Dave] Did you want to put-- - Okay, over there. - [Dave] Do you wanna do
the shelled sunflower? Easier for her to grab so it's not. - It's associated aggressively for sure. - [Brian] The stick?
- Yeah. - [Brian] Which I think
is potentially something that happened with the previous owner because then we could never get her... - There we go. Good job. - [Brian] We're stuck in helping her try and use the perch. - You know what? Let's try to use the other stick. Let's try to use the one we brought. Because (crosstalk) has that association? Yeah. - [Brian] Try something different. - [Dave] Do we have a colored one? - [Jamieleigh] No, they just (crosstalk). - [Dave] Not totally. - [Brian] Then, okay. - [Dave] They can see a
full spectrum more than us. In fact, they can see
the ultraviolet spectrum. - [Brian] Oh, really? Wow. - [Dave] So, what they look like to us, nothing like what they
look like to each other. - [Brian] That's crazy. Could do it too, right? - [Jamieleigh] I'm just going to see, because she immediately got aggressive when she saw it. So I'm just kind of like,
how do I start there? I'm gonna start with something new. Ideally I'd love a metal
one or a plastic one. But. Hey, girly. Hey, Rio, come back. - [Dave] (muffled speaking) It didn't associate with the aggression. Or the abuse, I guess. Is that any better already, babe? - [Jamieleigh] Little bit. - [Dave] We can get there. She's... (muffled speaking) - She didn't, I didn't get all
the like, fluffed craziness. So that was good.
- [Dave] This is progress. Hey, that's the same place. So we ended up at the
same bubble tea place. - [Jamieleigh] Good. - [Ashley] That was really good. - [Brian] She didn't
tell me you were here. I thought you were down south still? - [Dave] We've been up here
I guess for three days now. - [Ashley] I drove 37 hours to take him up climbing Utah. So to me, it's like, (muffled speaking). - [Dave] This is big improvement. If you can just slowly
peek her head around. Ashley's funny cause
she started as a client. And she's like, "I know math." And we're like, "We suck at it." So she started. - [Brian] And that's a sapphire (muffled)? - [Jamieleigh] Yeah. I'm changing it, but yeah. I keep changing it. - [Brian] 'Cause that's
like the lowest one. - [Jamieleigh] Really?
- [Brian] Yeah. - Nice. - [Dave] The point that
she doesn't ever know when she's getting the favorite, also makes her try harder. Flies over and this might be the time, and they try (muffled speaking). So we use that. And then also taking advantage of, if the bird's calm, which triggered, pissed off on cue. And you can phase that out, which is what she's doing now. So she's transitioning to a soft target and the calm motions. So now-- She seems like she wants (crosstalk). - [Jamieleigh] I know. She
does seem like she wants to. She's kind of initiating. Okay. Oh yeah. - [Dave] We don't quite see it, but we do. - [Brian] (muffled speaking) Really soft. - She didn't grab the treat
with her tongue that time. She just stuck her tongue
way out and I dropped it on her tongue. - [Brian] She does this
(muffled speaking). - [Dave] Yeah, how does that go again? (laughter) Yes, that's good. Slowly take the relationship forward. Yes, that's a good target. - [Ashley] Get the target and then yay. And then I went and took the target away. - [Dave] Does that make sense to you? - [Brian] Yep. You want to keep it out of eyesight. - [Dave] A lot of people are like, they'll do that and they'll
try to get the treat, where it's like-- - [Brian] But it's still out.
- [Dave] Yeah. It's easy to stay (mumbles). - I'm going to try a hard one and see if I can get her
to fully move down here. - [Dave] As you see, she started far and is
coming closer and closer versus having... The bird start coming down
and pulling stuff away. - [Brian] You were right. - [Brian] (whispering) - [Jamieleigh] Ah! (laughter) Can you reach? Can you reach? - [Brian] So did you
see that hesitation and gripping and stuff? - Not as much. I was kind of chalking that up to, when I see birds on like furry textures, they get so funny about it. They get very like, obsessed with the feeling of the texture. But, you feel like there's a
lack of accurate grip there. And she's kind of...
- [Brian] Or just hesitation-- Like, see how quick that was? Now. - [Jamieleigh] I knew you could do it the whole freaking time. - [Brian] I knew you could do it. (laughter) - [Jamieleigh] You're going all the way. - [Brian] Usually she never (muffled). - [Jamieleigh] She's proud of herself. - [Brian] You can't have cat toys though. - [Jamieleigh] So, she's
never explored up here before? - [Brian] (muffled speaking) She's never really climbed herself all the way up there. - [Ashley] Why are you doing this? - [Jamieleigh] You know
the other thing is, we can powder the pallets
and put it in this. - [Dave] Keep in mind too, after (mumbles) family-friendly, that might be what she wants. She might want you to leave. So, with behaviors that
are becoming annoying. Try to look for patterns. So if every time she
screams, you leave the room she might be screaming
to get you to leave.
