ah I'm in the field today photographing one of the most hated and misunderstood birds in Australia the white ibis over the years Ibis have descended into cities and landfills to much rage and judgment so much so that they've been given wonderful nicknames such as the bin chicken or the tip turkey but let's be honest these birds wouldn't be eating our garbage if we weren't constantly destroying their habitats now I don't want to show these birds feeding on waste so I thought I'd capture them in their natural habitat such as a stagnant lake or a pond much like this habitats like this provide Birds such as the Ibis painful space for nests as well as some peace and quiet from many man-made things Ibis are quite relaxed birds and when in their normal habitats they come out of their shelves they might not be the sharpest of birds but they do have a better character I imagine other birds view the Ibis as part of the furniture where they don't make a fuss and quietly blend into the background I suppose that's what makes them perfect garbage scavengers in cities are monogamous slaying two to three eggs and once the chicks are hatched stay with their parents for 48 days I get the feeling this might be 48 days too many for some Ibis definitely aren't the most agile or coordinated of birds but when they get to a level spot on a branch they generally stay there and completely relax to see these birds in their natural habitats places where they're meant to be living it is quite a delightful thing but on the other hand it also gives me a slight tinge of sadness the thought of these parents needing to scavenge around dumpsters and other garbage dumps just to fill their babies bellies is a tad bit Grim habitats like this are unfortunately shrinking due to Land Development and progress the inevitable destruction of wetlands creeks and Woodland areas and the merging of Wildlife and cities is all our doing but let's finish on a lighter note look at this guy trying to get on the branch as the book says feet for waiting are not made for branches thanks for watching [Music]
