what's going on everybody welcome back to the vlog on today's episode we have a very very special inlay going in we're just about to start laying some deck boards so we're gonna get some of those down and once we get to the inlay we are going to have some really fun stuff coming up so stay tuned I'm gonna walk you through the entire process don't forget to hit subscribe subscribe subscribe subscribe stay tuned we are now on to this herringbone detail we have all the field boards surrounding it this is gonna get pretty complicated I'm gonna show you what we got going on to make this go in seamlessly with as minimal effort as possible so here's our center of our inlay we have a line marked ear you can barely see it it's in pencil we're gonna have three intersections of herringbone here and we're gonna start at these two points here and we've measured back we have a nine inch border so we have a five and a half inch dark slate a three and a half inch tundra and then our sierra boards start here so this is gonna be our starting point and we want this first board to just just get past this line so that when we cut it we basically have a full board and we don't have any small pieces right here so we're tempering up our first piece here we have everything figure out correctly this piece should also work over there and we should have all the same cuts so what we want to do to get our first piece in here we have this big collapsible square we want these to be running on a 45 from our decking so we have the middle of this board marked right here so we're right on our center line and we are really close to 45 so I'm gonna hold this here we'll mark a line on our square and that's gonna be our starting point and you can see we have this edge coming right up to our cut line so our next one come in here and we're not gonna have any little tiny pieces right at this scene so we figured out this side and it actually worked out same measurement is there works here so that means our math is going pretty good so our next step in the middle we are gonna have a breaker board in here so we have the basket weave pattern a basket weave pattern and then a breaker board that's gonna go through the whole deck so this measurement is gonna be a little bit different but we have this all temps up this is in the right spot we've squared it up to make sure that we're coming off 90 degrees off of that and then we're just gonna mark this right by our center line we don't have to make these perfect right now because we can cut it with a track saw and then slap our border in there so we're just gonna get these miners pretty close but not super tight even though we had all this figured out we still wanted to cut one of each piece and make sure they all fit together so we have our four starter pieces and you can see this is gonna be basket weaved that is gonna be basket weave and then we're gonna have a breaker board three-and-a-half inches going up the center these are the two areas that we're really concerned with but everything works out so we can just cut them they're all the same length bunch of cuts get going right Pat all of our measurements for these are the same going back so we know what to cut these at but what I did was just square cut the end of these four boards because those are gonna be finished our miters on three sides those are gonna be cut again with tracks also those don't have to be perfect so what I like to do because we have all kinds of different that's your long point that's your long point is kind of mock it up okay I know our long point needs to be that side there you go that doesn't need to be pretty bing-bang-boom so I'm just gonna set up like this if you want you can mark it down and figure out what's your long point flip around on the miter saw but I prefer to do it like this look at it boom this one goes like that cut needs to be like that [Music] [Music] we've got our full pieces in there we only have four pieces that are the full length there until it hits a corner and then they're all gonna be smaller so what I'm doing is measuring these corners I'm gonna cut both sides at the same time just to make it a little bit easier so this is like 27 inches right here it's got a 54 inch border and I have all my marks on here so just like this there you go show them that there you go Pat swim yourself [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] just like that they're even pretty close to the same size these are all running well because we're gonna use tracks all to cut those finish so the miners don't have to be perfect on that it just needs to be pretty close it is coming together beautifully you can see here this was our starting point so we've ran most of the board's long and we will snap a line here cut right into that so that it's a full piece it's gonna look really nice almost all of our pieces are in so we're ready to cut in that border we have our tracks all set up so I'm going to show you how we're gonna figure this out so that that fits in perfect and our screws land right where we need them so we have the track set up new track fresh out the box and this is a 10-foot track so we're gonna be able to this in one pass which is very nice so we have our mark right here we've set up our track and then we are squaring everything off of these boards which we've been doing for the whole thing so nice and tight we are set up set up the tracks all zippedy Zippity zap let me show you we got going on we have a brake report that's gonna go through the entire deck and it's a three and a half tons apiece so we are cutting this in now and then we can start on our double border around the inlay not to be confused with the double border that's going on the deck it's gonna be epic [Music] we've got our borders going in here what we have is the dark slate and then we're gonna have tundra and obviously the herringbone is Sierra so a lot of times we will basket weave these corners as well so like this one was real long that one would run long but here we want both of these sides to run into here because I don't want to putt joy anywhere on the deck so we're breaking up like this these two legs run long we still in between then we're gonna cut that nice lighter piece in here we're still awesome let's do our tracks all is absolutely amazing look at that you cannot do that with your arm we're now going with this lighter double border because you have dark slate tundra Sierra herringbone and we're gonna have this board tight to our field boards then there's gonna be a small gap dark slate and then runs into our field boards so everything is looking oh so beautiful yeah baby [Music] we have all of our boards in here but we're a little bit short on this corner it ended like right here so we're just gonna leave that open and hope that nobody notices oh wait no we're not gonna do that look at that so we used five and a half inch boards for this and the nice thing about that is they also sell it in a seven and a quarter board so the five and a half was gonna leave us like right here so all we had to do get a piece of this board bing-bang-boom she's a beaut measure once I don't know I messed up wise words there anyway and it's cutting in this last piece and we have the same thing going on here we're gonna cut this out of a seven and a quarter board so that we have a full piece here you can see it's already done over there it looks beautiful and now we've been doing a lot of thinking on this inlay and making sure that everything works out and we're just about done with that so I need some stupid work so I'm just gonna lay here and put in all these clogs which is gonna take a little time but it's definitely needed right now measure twice cut twice measure once cut three times scale on sexercise back and forth so you never cut it too long decorators coming out with a board stretcher soon though so it should be good once that comes in so trick with these plugs you can see we've countersunk these screws that scrolls oh look we've got screw hole we've got screw holes all over this deck we didn't use any hidden fasteners in here because we like to fasten the ends and there's only one joist in between so we just face screw to everything and the key to this you see I have the plug sitting in here it didn't tap them in yet the key is pre drilling these holes you're gonna want to do that with pretty much all composites but it's really important so we pre-drill that with what three sixteenths three sixteenths and now I have the plugs in there and let's see how they go now you see them now you don't always use a rubber mallet as well not only does it look like a toy but it's fun to use so that's pretty much it for this inlay we are all wrapped up with it it looks really nice but my brain is kind of tired so that's it for today on the next vlog we are going to be building a crazy custom bar and privacy wall so stay tuned for that but until next time enjoy these drone shots and this is premier outdoor living [Music]
