The Most DISGUSTING GameBoy Restoration!

oh look the screws stick to my finger oh oh this makes me feel unwell hello everyone and welcome back to the retro future today we're going to be trying very hard to make this look less disgusting uh this yellow gameway is what we're gonna be cleaning in this video it's a part of the play it loud series i've got a couple of um player loud game boys here uh this one is disgusting it's the worst game boy i've ever probably laid my eyes upon it's not discolored in any way that is dirt that is absolutely dirt and grime and gunge and i should be wearing gloves but i don't have any look at the bought and i paid a total of 2922 yen for it which is around about 30 dollars which is around sort of 23 24 pounds or something like that so this is it um i've actually got a mint condition one of these this is a brand new uh game boy that was a part of the power swap exchange program i've actually made a video on this check that out in the card uh this is basically a brand new game boy it has actually been uh remanufactured by nintendo which essentially just means everything's been replaced other than the motherboard so it's brand new uh if we can get this thing looking like that i'll be very happy so yeah i suppose we should see if we can turn it on because uh it's gonna probably work but it's not the fact that it doesn't work that's the problem the problem is that it's absolutely disgusting oh oh the power switch is so gunked up no we've got a couple of horizontal lines you can see the horizontal line there that's not too bad oh it has actually gone away yeah it's a bit temperamental also the contrast wheel needs to be clean because it's just not functioning properly did sound like we had sound let's see if we can turn that off and on again yeah we do have sound there is just grime and gunk everywhere it's just revolting look at that i really should be wearing gloves for touching this so let's just get into this thing i'm very excited to give it a clean because i'm sure it is going to come out looking uh absolutely mint condition at the end of it let's start off with the tri-wings man this is really really revolting there is some black gunk inside the screw post as well oh no this is awful i think i'm probably going to leave this to soak in the sink for probably about half an hour in some really hot water with soap because yeah this is just absolutely disgusting okay and then lifting it up what will we unearth oh my lord look at the state of the inside of that oh god it actually makes me feel unwell i hope no one's eating whilst watching this this is awful look at all of the like blackness around the edge as well and then look what's all of that oh i should so be wearing gloves what even am i doing right now let's go ahead and remove the 25 gajillion phillips screws from the front motherboard okay here we go let's try and take out the motherboard oh there we go goodness gracious me the screen's actually not too bad and the motherboard isn't too dirty it definitely needs to clean though um and yeah look this is a very well-loved game boy can you see how shiny those membranes are that's because it's just been so used and it's just worn down uh yeah very nasty where's the there it is oh yeah that's what i want to see look at the collection of dirt down there and around here as well and in that d-pad what even is that stuff so the final thing to remove is just this bottom board as well and then we can just set the stuff in the sink for half an hour and we'll give it a nice clean which is going to be very satisfying i wonder why the power switch is so sticky i'm kind of nervous come on out you come there we go and the little daughter board as well lovely so yeah this is actually quite an early version as well because look at the uh the inconspicuous black blobs as opposed to the chips um okay yeah this is definitely seen a little bit of a spillage at the top you can see the residue there let's see if we can figure out why the power switch is so sticky here we go take that out look at all of the grot down there oh god we just need to get this in the sink come on enough chitchat oh it's all so sticky oh look the screws stick to my finger oh oh this makes me feel unwell what is that what is that congealed on the screw oh man i do not feel well look it's stuck oh oh right this is going in the sink immediately [Music] do [Music] do [Music] [Music] oh [Music] and that ladies and gentlemen is a cajun chicken rap god that was a bad joke even for my standards i've done it it looks pretty good i'm really pleased with how it's turned out it looks it's pretty much as good as it was going to get um it turns out there was actually a tiny little bit of discoloration you can see where the stickers were that the you know the original color is sort of showing underneath but i'm really not too fussed about that it does look absolutely fantastic the screen has some really deep scratches in them uh i was able to remove some of the scuffs and stuff but ultimately i'm gonna take that off and put a nice glass screen lens in there at some point um everything is looking pretty good i'm i'm really really glad um i got my hands on this so i could give it a new lease of life um let's have a quick look at a game this was actually sent to me by a musician who has released his latest album daimyo's jukebox in a game boy game which is really cool they've made this whole gamewear game it's got a beautiful box and everything with it and some posters and whatnot inside if you want to check out some this is that there's lost soundtracks uh in some sort of a museum i believe and you have to go into each of the different worlds and find the soundtrack i think that's roughly uh the kind of vibe and as you can listen or hear i don't know what word is there's some cool music to it and obviously this isn't the actual soundtrack this is just you know the background music until you find the soundtrack so uh yeah and if it sounds that good already then i think i'm gonna be in for a treat so yeah i'm going to sit down and have a little play with this super excited about this game boy man it has really come out looking fantastic um i don't know what i'm doing i need to sit down and pay some proper attention to it but yeah the screen's working perfectly i didn't have to replace the screen in the end um obviously it just needed a little bit of power going back into it and everything's woken up again so yeah look i'm really pleased with this hopefully you have enjoyed if at any
