- [Steve] You know firefighters
sacrifice many days and nights to keep their community safe, but one in particular, didn't think his wedding day would be one of them. Please welcome Jeremy and his wife Krista. (applause) So Krista, you got engaged, and you started planning this wedding. tell me how that went. - It was crazy, our original venue fell through, kind of last minute, I
had probably two months, when it fell through, so, we'd decided to do it at the fire station. (applause) (applause) [Steve] So Jeremy, as a volunteer firefighter, how often are you called
to the scene of a fire? - Well as a volunteer,
it could be anywhere from once a week to three times a day. - So, let me ask you this man, what was going through your mind and what made you decide to leave your wedding, to fight a fire. - Well, the ceremony had just concluded, and we were about to go
outside and take some pictures and one of the alarms went off. A couple of guys came down and hopped in one of
the trucks and took off. And as time progressed, we kept taking more pictures and more pictures and it was September 1st, so
it was Labor Day weekend. A lot of guys were out of town. And as, like I said, time progressed the call kept kind of getting worse. They started doing what
they call, mutual aid calls. We need to get this city out there, get that city out there because it's starting to get bigger. And with everybody being out of town, there really wasn't that many
responding people coming in so, we just kinda looked at each other and we didn't even really say anything, She's like if you need to go, go. So, at that time I was thinking, man, I'm gonna leave my wife at.. at my wedding. Over the intercom, you can
hear the county dispatch and the people on scene talking. And you can hear the
severity in their voice, we need to get more people here now 'cause it's getting out of control. So, once she said go ahead and go, I just ran to my locker,
took off my clothes, put on my bunker gear and
got on the first truck out. (Applause)
- Wow. - [Steve] So, Krista, how did you feel about Jeremy's decision
to leave your wedding. - Well, before the wedding, I totally... I told him, I'm like,
"Don't even try to leave, If there is a fire call-" - She even gave me one of these. - Yeah, I was like,
"If there's a fire call you better not even try to
leave and don't make me look like the bad guy 'cause
I would have you tell you can't leave, just don't go." But, like he said, you could hear the severity in their voices. I could hear the other
firefighters that were there just talking about how like, we need all the help we can get. There's not enough guys there. The house is gonna be a
total loss, this and that and I lost a niece and nephew to a house fire two years ago. I would have never even, in such a severe situation,
it wasn't a second thought. - [Steve] Right. [Steve] Well, I gotta tell you, both of you, you're some pretty selfless human beings, to
- Thanks give your day like that. (applause)
- Thank you - [Steve] A lot of
people wouldn't do that, I'm gonna just be honest with you so you've made sacrifices in your life to help other people so, to get you started off on your new life, we want to give you a wedding present. - Oh man. - Yeah, so our friends
at Bed Bath & Beyond who have the number one
wedding and gift registry in the nation, they
heard about your story, and wanted to honor your
self-less act on your big day. So they're sending you home, with a $2,500 gift card! (applause)
- Thank you guys so much. - That's good, you know, that's a small token of our appreciation! - Thank you so much! Get you some nice gifts for the house! - Thank you! Thank you so much! - Make it look real nice!
- Oh my gosh! Thanks for being here. Jeremy, thank you for your service, buddy. - [Jeremy] Thank you! - Hey, we got more coming
up, stick around everybody!
