he's so fast [Music] today welcome back to reaction University I'm Corey and I'm Dana and today we're we are reacting to The Last of Us season one episode one so this has been a long time coming um I've been really anticipating to watch this uh I play the game my wife probably watched me play I watched him play a game most of the game but uh and it's one of those things that I I've played several times on the PlayStation 3 and originally came back when it originally came out and then the remastered version that came out and then of course they redid it again um from the ground up and I haven't played that one uh because I was like I played the game like three times already um it came out on the PS3 PS3 yeah it came on 24 2013. came out in 2013. stop it's 10 years old yeah it did not come out 10 years ago no 2013 10 years ago I'm a huge fan a huge fan of the last second you played the second one I played the second one let's not talk about it the last of us was another one of those huge change to the game industry really taking the source material seriously and able to tell a compelling story um from beginning to end and very emotional yes definitely emotional storyline I'm very curious to see how this translates into a live action retelling and a TV show right um how much do they stick to the sources yeah the source material how wealthy actors do portraying the characters because sometimes that can make or break a show right well I say let's give it the you know a good try we're going in with a relatively open mind we're gonna see HBO's Take On The Last of Us and you know as always you guys will get to see our reaction and here are responses to the show so I feel like that's a pretty and if you like our reaction don't forget to like and comment below we biggest word yeah it's any kind of virus but most probably something similar to influenza because verify just to be clear you you do think microorganisms both a threat or even the most dire terms bacteria no you like saying no yeah okay many species no otherwise because there are some fungi who seek not to kill but to control viruses can make us ill but fungi can alter our very Minds there's a fungus that infects insects gets inside and for example travels through its circulatory system to the ant's brain and then floods it with hallucinogens thus bending the ant's Minds to its will so it begins to devour its host from within replacing the ants flesh with its armor it doesn't let its victim die no it it keeps its popping Alive by preventing decomposition that actually understand fungal infection of this kind is real but not in humans true fungi cannot survive if its hosts internal temperature is over 94 degrees but what if that was a change what if for instance the world was yet slightly warmer my city candida ergot cordyceps aspergillus any one of them capable of borrowing into our brains and taking control of millions of us billions of puppets with poisoned mines permanently fixed on one unifying goal to spread the infection to every last human alive oh preventatives no cures they don't exist it's not even possible to make them so if that happens we lose what do you think honestly I thought it was I thought it was so well done I watched you play the game so I know the storyline and the show still had me on the edge of my seat the way that they just kind of like Drew out each scene the I don't know the anticipation the build up everything it was so it was good I think it was very well done I'm excited to see what they have more you know what was coming in like a more recent episodes or the next couple episodes but of course I have like a lot of notes I don't know if we just go ahead and yeah go ahead go through your notes all right cool so we'll go Bam Bam all right so one of the things I thought was really good because you know for a lot of people you hear zombies you hear post-apocalyptic world and you're like yeah whatever it's not super realistic some people really believe it they really buy into it other people they're like it's not realistic at all so I love what they did in the beginning about having it in the having the intro where it's like what was it yeah the 60s showing like the talk show where they kind of nobody's smoking because that's what Jules able to do on yeah um but explanation about like the fungus the whole concept of a fungus being the thing to fear more so than a virus and just I think they did a such a good job detailing how it can play out with hallucinations mind control and then even the theory of like yeah right now the fun guy can't you know um survive right in a temperature right of 94 degrees their threshold but like then play into the example of the concept of global warming if the Earth itself is getting warmer well then a lot of these things are having to naturally adapt anyway so you fast forward and you bring that forward a period of 40 years four decades like how far can this adapt Neil druckman is actually directing the second episode as well no he didn't he didn't wreck the first episode that was great do it so this one said it started off like this was in 20 2003 yeah so why don't you look that up to confirm right I don't think that's what the game was start off I also I also want you to look up and confirm did the game really come out in 2013 because I feel like I watched you play the first game no you watched me play it multiple times in this house sweet and then you also watch me watch people play the game and that but I feel like the very first time you played the game before time I play the game we weren't married that's not true Tony was in 2013. oh my gosh okay convince me convince me because I'm not convinced so why so why you look that up and why you look up to Steve I know I'm just I'm telling you I will just say while you're looking that up for the first part of it I really liked the banter that they have yes Mommy Joel and Sarah what show me show me convince me 2013. developed when was it released 2013. it was released it was no it would look it takes years to develop these okay so look what is this and it came out on the 2013. the 2013 actually developed Sprint yes I know this so what they did was because the game started off in 2013 which makes it off into anything the game came out in 2013 and that was when all hell broke loose and then they fast forward so like literally the game came out in 2013 they were playing off of that but then they jumped 20 years in the future yeah so instead of doing that they're like let's dude let's make the outbreak as far as like where Joel is in today's calendar which is 2023. in order way to do that is 20 years 20 years yeah right anything you want to say about like the dynamic between Joel Joel is 36 years old yeah okay so this is where it comes like the best part of the show was for me was the first 30 minutes why because of the old lady so that old lady that was actually a good seat I'm creepy loved her in the back that scene oh that was nah like that is beautiful like this haunting like creepiness that just like it just gets to you it really works but you can't turn away you just want to like what is happening I enjoyed that scene but more importantly I really enjoyed all the way until Sarah's death that was obviously so let's talk about Sarah's death yeah so personally being a parent puts so many things in perspective when I'm watching something because whether I'm watching something like through the lens of a kid I'm like thinking about it through the lens of my children or if I'm watching like this here playing out like him as a parent trying to get his kid his family to safety and having to own that right and then to the point of an accident like I felt like I was watching Ella like for a minute like I was watching Ella I was like after the accident trying to get her out like them responding to being in pain and you're like this is a life or death critical situation and I know you're trying and I know that there's a lot you don't understand but like I need you to keep moving like gosh was this hard to watch and when that one um infected person like yeah you could be fit for yourself but can you carry a teenage kid through an obstacle course with people chasing you like hyped up on you know who knows what type of fungus and get you and your kid to safety and then to like get to the point of like feeling like okay I can breathe we made it to the people that are gonna help us and they won't help you and then to her getting shot and Joel like gosh that anguish like I can't imagine literally with my own body trying to physically run my children to safely only to watch them die helplessly in front of me and like you're literally fighting to the end so hard and I'm sure there's plenty of movies and stuff out there but this one just this particular one always gets me yeah yeah I think again to just recap I think the show did a good job implementing a lot of those scenes that you played the game like you're like oh yep that's that scene up yep that's like you know there's this Easter egg there oh there's that thing oh that's pretty cool about that um and then there's some scenes again just focus on the first 30 minutes of the of the show you know like the scene where they're trying to get out of the city the game should get the car gets T-Bone yeah um here they actually teased it they were you like you're expecting the T-bone like a vehicle to come out of nowhere and hit them and they tease that the car coming and the vehicle showed up and you're like oh here it goes and the car stops and like oh okay that's not happening and then the airplane come down and I was like okay if you're gonna if you're not gonna do what's in the game just make it better and I think they made it even epic with a plane coming down and debris flying yeah basically causing the car to turn out and flip over and so yeah well done what has Joel become to this point right he's able to toss that young boy's body into the flame when another woman couldn't but he was a father himself that's how 20 years from now Joel has different set of girls he's callous he's like listen I'm a seller what do I need you to make money you want me to sell some drugs on the side whatever is going to get me what I need like I just it's just what do I need to do what do I need to get I'm doing it I'm doing my thing I did just want to say that I was really happy Marlene replies replies her role I really like Meryl Dandridge yeah she played in the game yeah and I thought the Woodline she said you don't have an effort I thought she was talking about telling the girl you ain't listening because all the time follow orders and she literally yeah does not have an ear on her head so I thought that was hilarious and she's like yeah take time to discuss it but I am bleeding out right now so I really liked that I I'm I'm sure that I mean I'm confident that the actress um Bella is gonna do a good job portraying Ellie I did appreciate seeing her kind of coming in hot from the beginning as soon as you see her she's cussing people out and kicking stuff um just to kind of like bring on that like yeah the spunk that the Hot Head kind of nature that Ellie had so I'm curious to see how all that you know plays out but that's about it for me so I think you wanted to move you could give it to rating what would you give it I would probably give I would probably give it a 9.5 9.5 it took me on a ride it took me on a ride even with knowing what was gonna happen I enjoyed the ride did enjoy the episode and I also enjoyed the fact that they were trying to be as true to some of these characters and show some of those same beat for beat moments in the game but they're not trying to reinvent the will guys I enjoyed it I enjoyed the hell of it you only enjoyed 80 of it apparently but it's an eight for me not even 85 I don't want to do the 8.5 Maybe you know decimal places and your percentage are totally fine guys don't let them tell you otherwise I'm all about them commit don't even let me bring an eight point eight seven
