The Japanese Pokemon Market Landscape has Changed...

so like I talked about in the previous video the environment buying things from Japan has totally changed totally changed and it's because of certain factors PSA being more available in Japan sellers realizing and this was probably because of the summer boom realizing the actual value of their cards and the increase of value graded versus ungraded and the heightened de demand for the by grade Flip byr Flip byr Flip from the United States from anywhere else in the world buying things from Japan exporting it to their individual countries everything has kind of changed and I'll start this video by talking about my experience back way back in 2019 when I started first buying from Japan using from Japan not sponsored at all I use Bay sometimes when they have good coupons but majority it's from Japan because they know how to pack their stuff well and I like their system anyway so the environment back then buying from Japan Japanese was always more available uh obviously in Japan go figure but as in it was cheaper and more available in Japan uh back in 2019 um than it ever is today all the expensive cards they were cheaper in Japan you could very very easily buy raw cards about around market value have them shipped over from Japan and then grade them and they would pretty much come back PSA 10 like a lot of the time a lot of the time I mean Japanese Japanese people first of all take really good care of their cards but second of all Japanese print quality is phenomenal so so you really are ex not expected but you're pretty much like 90 90% Chew in of getting a PC 10 if you assess the you know card right uh on the pictures and everything but things were more readily available you can buy things at you could you could buy things at so much better of a price in Japan um and things were just a lot Chiller uh things didn't move that fast in Japan where over the years you know if you didn't buy a card nowadays if you don't buy a card like within 30 or an hour of it being posted it pretty much would be sold pretty much would be sold and it's because more and more people are getting to the buy grade Flip byr Flip not only that has changed but the qualities coming the quality of cards coming from Japan it's really bottom of the bucket there are a lot of people especially since PSA has established itself C established themselves in Japan a lot of people are taking their minty minty cards grading them and selling them as a huge upcharge huge price difference that has changed and was CH and had changed for a while but in recent times what has changed is now because of that there are a lot more PC 10 and PC graded cards in Japan and on marui and on Japan marketplaces which you didn't really see that uh back you know even a year ago even I would say maybe two years ago you didn't see that at all it was a very occasional oh PC 10 they have something in stock whatever uh very very rare you would see that but now it's like all over the place because everyone's doing The Bu grade flip bu grade flip but it's created a unique opportunity and and unique in the sense of it's like a self-fulfilling type of thing if you have a lot of bu grade flip people and you take a c that's you know maybe 3 four years ago would sell at that price um sell at a certain price let's say $400 uh but nowadays you can find that card valued maybe $400 and then the PC 10 version because of the thing that happened in the summer price is coming down Japanese you can find that PC 10 price for maybe $500 and the pc9 would be $400 the same price is pretty much the raw cost because Japanese people do not like nines they only like 10 it makes sense because their grades their their cards are very easy to grade so it's gotten to a point where the risk of you buying a raw card from Japan having shipped to America and maybe getting an 8 to n on it is just not worth it anymore it really isn't it's worth it now it's a great value Buy because now you can buy PSC 10s from Japan cheaper than in the united states in the United States they are more expensive and this is even outside of taxes you can even incorporate that in you because it's not even like it's it's cheaper than the Buy It Now price not even with taxes buy now if a buy now price was $400 in Japan it would be $350 or it would be $300 I mean it's significantly less because it's significantly more available over there and there's a lot more buyers a lot competition over there to sell their cards so it's really uh created this unique environment where PSC 10s now are a are are fantastic Buy in Japan because a lot of people are binder collectors in Japan not this is not all of them but I would say a large majority are binder Collections and a lot of them don't want PSC 10s they don't want uh you know these these cars they're they're encased or whatever they would rather have a car in the binder and maybe I'm summarizing them a little little bit too generally but I would say there's a lot more people doing that in Japan than they are doing in the United States um for like mint mint cards and everything so there's a lot less demand in Japan for uh graded PC 10 cards and that creates you know now the sellers are having a smaller and smaller smaller buyer pool so they're they're they're they're fighting over the buyer pool and they're lower than the price and honestly I've bought uh three or four PC 10s from Japan now bought a Yokohama p uh Pikachu not the world's Pikachu but the the other one that came out in 20 2019 um I bought some uh player player ceremony cards um from Japan as well and they were steals I mean they were literally buy now eBay like the the bottom of the barrel prices I was looking at $300 even in Facebook groups they were maybe 250 I could buy it from Japan for $200 and this is just a snap Ario it's not specifically the player ceremony is not specifically the player ceremony uh but that's just the value it's it's it's crazy right now um if you are a if you are a collector and not an Optimizer but a collector is phenomenal buy to buy PSC 10s from Japan and like I said before they keep really good care of their raw cards and everything and they keep even better care of their PC slaps and it's it's a phenomenal time right now like I said um I'm not really buying any raw cards I'm very very hesitant on buying any raw cards from Japan because I know it's it's going to be pretty bad like I'll give you a scenario like I bought uh I I got I got really burned I bought five of these Poncho Charizards right here from Japan they said mint mint no obvious flaws uh type of description and lo and behold you know get back from Japan scratches dings whitening um all the minty minty cards are being graded and encased and if I just spent uh maybe $100 more I could have gotten three of those cards pc10 from Japan and instead I bought those all scratched dings probably p say six to seven five of them uh for a a good price but just if I spent a little bit more I would have guaranteed PSA 10s in my possession uh but that's just the risk you're running man that's just the risk you're running for buying from Japan raw seriously um so I would not suggest buying raw from Japan unless it's like over market value and this is the thing I would buy over market value like I'm getting a good uh not so much a good value but I know the Japanese person more than likely they're getting over market value for the card so and they're priced it at that uh price so they know like okay yeah this is a really really minty card um but now it's just not worth it anymore it really isn't so I'm buying sealed product from Japan I'm buying uh a slabbed uh slabbed um cards from Japan and I'm buying some unique promos as well but that's all I'm doing that that's really all I'm doing I'm not uh I'm not risking it like I did back in the day um I would risk a lot of stuff I I bought like two uh mysterious pearls uh from Japan huge risk uh one got a PC 10 thankfully and then another one got a PC8 so kind of broke even on those the valuation type of thing but that is what I've seen in Japan uh in in recent time for those who are buying from Japan that's what I would suggest uh with um with buying honestly the best thing especially I would actually say especially with sealed product buying like a like I did a few videos ago buying from a middleman in the United States because more than likely they're getting it they're competing against the Japanese market and they are priced significantly less than any eBay price any whatever Tik Tok Shop's a whole another story um you can get some really good deals but it's it's insane the valuation because you get it faster you're it's more reliable you won't get any juice or whatever in your boxes and you have a you know uh a recourse of action if it is a scam like you can charge back on PayPal whatever so that's what I would suggest and that's what I've seen with uh buying from Japan and uh I'll
