I think people focus too much on if she was a scammer or not when that was never really the most interesting part of the story imo.
After the Cut article I was so fascinated by Natalie / Caroline for a short while. But I think the most interesting part of the story wasn't the scamming but that it was a well written portrayal of a toxic friendship falling apart. Natalie was pretty thoughtful of her own faults in the relationship (obviously Caroline had more) and it was way more personal than just an influencer scam. Natalie had really built Caroline up and was initially envious of her - then the emperor had no clothes.
I know I'll get roasted for it but I genuinely think it would make a good short form tv series. There's so many classic ya tropes. The conventionally pretty popular rich girl who becomes semi-famous with the more "plain jane" poorer best friend. Then they hang out with aristocrats in Europe while writing a book and shit goes very badly with drug addiction / lies / break ups. It's frustrating Caroline will never finish anything because it's genuinely a good pitch.
I still can't believe she sold snake oil (mix of random essential oils) and passed it off as skincare.
What I donโt understand it why didnโt she just hire a ghost writer??? Plenty of celebrities do it. You have a book deal already, just go full stream of consciousness and have someone edit it. I donโt know enough about her but I f she is a scammer sheโs not a very good one.
I don't really know who she is and at this point I'm afraid to ask
The smolbeansnark sub is one of the worst place on the internet. Sheโs just a messy bitch who barely posts anymore but they act like sheโs a Madoff level grifter and theyโre doing important work by being in her business all the time. Itโs a stretch to even call her an influencer, sheโs basically a permenant main character of the day people follow because they love mess of they stopped blowing everything she did into a mini scandal she would have disappeared by now.
Why do we glorify scamming now? We elected a con man as our damn president. Lock these thieves up donโt feature them on vice news
For everyone out of the loop r/smolbeansnark will explain everything you need to know
she hardly had a following before the cut article
