The inside of this Red Oak log was INCREDIBLE!

[Music] [Music] so welcome back guys there's a lot of y'all have probably seen I had a couple of videos on a quarter saw in red oak and this is the rest of those this is part of the rest of that tree that we tried to quarter sawed and I got a lot of good suggestions from y'all about how to quarter sawed stuff and things to do differently and if you remember we built some jigs for you know to make some good quarter sawn lumber but I really decided that the LT 10 is a little bit small to get any decent amount of quarter sawn lumber out of vlogs because you can only really use smaller logs so we're gonna take this log this is a really nice red oak log and we're going to plain saw it and we're gonna see what we can get out of it I'm really excited to see what's in this log this um this should be a special log I've got really high hopes for it so let's see if we can get the mill uncovered get a sharp blade on it fill it up with gas and I see what's inside of this thing for the first cut I think we're gonna go in just use the old blade and the whole blade is fairly dull but there's a good bit of dirt on the top of this log so we're gonna go ahead and use the old blade to get rid of that dirt and then swap it out to a new black for the rest of the log [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so I decided to cut off all of the slabs with this old board instead of just the first one now we're gonna put a new blade or get our boards out of this long I'm sure I'll get some questions about why I'm leaving my water on during this process and the short answer is because my water delivery system is broken wood miser has already made it right I've just got to get in here and fix it so [Music] [Music] [Music] alright guys well here is my favorite part digging for the prize get on down deep into that heartwood cause this is what we were looking for a little soft spot right there but that's alright there's more here we're gonna go ahead and finish it up and then we'll spread them out in the back of the truck and put a little water on them and see what we've really got so guys that's all I've got I really appreciate you watching this video that log turned out some really beautiful lumber and I know that it's got quite a few knots in it and to somebody who makes what makes cabinets or furniture or something like that those knots would probably be a problem but you know what I think those knots are beautiful and I think it's going to add a lot of character to the floor in the house that we're remodeling right now but that's all I've got I really appreciate you watching I really do appreciate everybody that's watching these videos and subscribing the channel is quickly approaching 6,000 subscribers and that is really more than I ever imagined it would do in such a short amount of time so thank you for doing that keep on subscribing keep hitting that like button and I will keep Melon lumber and sticking videos on YouTube but until next time I really appreciate you watching and I will see you then one more thing before I go I've had a couple of people in the comments ask me about the hat that I wear this is a Columbia Omni Shield hat I don't know about a model number all it says is Columbia and Omni shield on it right after I bought this one they discontinued this particular model it's been probably eight years since I since I purchased this hat so that's what it is it's a Columbia I'm the shield hat I check Amazon check eBay maybe you can find an older model that's just like this one I'm not sure but these are great hats and if Columbia is making them the same as they used to make them man they are this has been a phenomenal hat so that's what it is Columbia I'm the shield if y'all are interested [Music]
