this video is going to sound crazy and like yeah it is it's completely bonus to say that some YouTuber is the smartest Minecraft player but wait Minecraft YouTube has thousands of different smps with tens of thousands of creators all making content on what makes Mumbo different why is this mustache iconic to Millions when the face behind it doesn't even have one why is Mambo the most subscribed SMP YouTuber on the platform there's a lot more going on here than you think and you need to hear the full story here because I've been piecing this together for months and it's crazy you see Mobile's videos are addictively fun to watch but I've been thinking about this video for months with absolutely no results I couldn't tell what number was doing different and I bet fire breath man I'd like to give a shout out to my Sensei fire breath man yeah that guy that I'd be able to make an entire video about this problem that I've literally been stopped on for four months before he won MTC and uh so uh we're building a bit of a time crunch here okay I think that either consciously or subconsciously mumbu figured something out literally just years ago about Minecraft that made him incredibly good at making interesting videos I had some ideas but I wanted to make sure that I was on the right track and although I made a few Redstone tutorials hello welcome back to episode 3 of redstone explained yeah okay well no let's ask someone who actually knows about this stuff so I know I'm just not running in circles get get it get it because I'm I'm I'm asking guys I'm asking Mystic app and they they made this the circle okay sorry but listen this is super interesting I actually use a personal Discord which I'm the only person in and one of the channels is specifically for YouTube titles where I keep about a hundred at a time this is my first YouTube book all of the ideas I came up with went into this book first even the ones I didn't end up creating are you noticing any uh similarities yet wait keep listening that's why I think all the Redstone YouTubers that try to have a lot more like relaxed fun and like and not really explaining what's going on but just messing around and seeing what happens they don't care if they get something sub-optimal I think those are typically the best Redstone videos now before all of you smart people start shouting at me down in the comment section that there are tons of one wide 3x3 piston doors I'm well aware of them and and I do like them because they're incredibly compact but when it comes to the three by three door that I actually want to build in my base it's always going to be one with a nice opening sequence whoa okay we're definitely on to something here but before we go let's look at one last really interesting thing that Misty said well the most important thing to keep in mind is that you can make videos for the algorithm like people think you have to make videos for viewers that is where this all gets really interesting because Momo said that no matter what he always tries to make the best videos possible not the videos that I get the most views but the videos that he's most proud of it's why he made an entire film Channel because he was passionate about it but it's also what caused this Common Thread that runs through every single Mamu but you look at this right this is mumbo's most popular video with nearly 87 million views and it's him putting 20 Doors which take real creativity and time to come up with and get working in 100 seconds you see what I think one more realized here was that to make fun and engaging videos you want the viewer to like actually be thinking about something they're a way to deliver ideas that video was hours and hours of new and fresh and innovative ideas packed into 100 seconds so you're always thinking about something fresh and different and new you don't need heavy editing or on-screen tricks to keep people watching if the video they're watching is cycling between Concepts and things to think about faster than you would even on Tick Tock you're not seeking out the ideas they've been curated and presented to you it's like why Reddit recap do so well and using Redstone mobile comes up with multiple ideas within every video what if giants could do red status things first entrance feeding tubes I really want to be able to look the Giant in the eye what I want to do is create a giant shrinking device it's a similar concept that makes videos like 50 things you can make in Minecraft or 50 stupid mistakes I always make in Minecraft it's the concept which makes those videos do well as well because it's so many different ideas packed into a small video 50 steps to starting a new Minecraft world problem 30 extremely satisfying moments in Minecraft 50 most frustrating things in Minecraft already things you should never do in Minecraft there are so many ideas in these videos that you really just can't get bored and I feel like Mumbo made these changes not consciously and not to satisfy the computer algorithm but to entertain you as a viewer and that is where the next part of this comes in you see when every video is made at the time to just be the best it can be to be entertaining and informative and not take anything too seriously that's when no matter the algorithm the audience will enjoy the video and naturally when you like a video you well yeah you're like you might like the video but you also you're gonna watch it till the end you're gonna click on more in the future what I'm trying to say is instead of trying to appeal to specific algorithm instead of trying to increase watch time or click through rate mumbo's charm transcends that by appealing to what the algorithm is trying to satisfy he cuts out the middleman and just tries to make good videos for the audience in his video making process but this doesn't feel like enough and shame fire breath man just posted this tweet I'm running out of time what else is Mumbo doing different uh Minecraft died didn't it how did Mama get through that okay okay wait call me The Lorax because I'm about to speak for the trees basically half of mumbo's entire channel is what you'd call Evergreen content no not not the cargo ship that got help set bro I'm stuck in the Suez Canal costing the world billions of dollars no I'm talking about a Minecraft Redstone boy I bet you're glad I could clear up the difference between those two just extremely similar things for you are anyway Evergreen content is basically content that's well Evergreen it's interesting forever videos like this or this or this you could watch those in 2018 or you could see them in your recommended now and there'd be basically no difference I mean yeah it's not a drama video which makes you much more interested but over time and especially when you build up a lot of those videos videos they add up really quickly and wait also if Redstone videos or Evergreen content from Momo if they kept driving views over time that means that hermitcraft videos were kind of the opposite videos that loads of people watched the second they come out to keep up to date with the server that might drop off over time but videos that helped Mambo put a bit more of his signature bombo mustache Swagger out there in the world and get people watching his videos because well he made I think it probably also helped that he mentions his Redstone videos in hermitcraft episodes a lot and vice versa so the audience is sort of crossed over like that's literally how I found Mumbo I looked up a wrestling tutorial I watched the Redstone video I heard about hermitcraft and I was hooked let's try again I'm not going to lose Faith just yet I might be about to lose faith and also like how can I how could I forget this okay so I was watching this like really interesting video by crafty Mastermind who actually got shouted out by Mumbo like twice which made me realize something that's kinda stopped recently but if you went back like three years before Minecraft blew up again Mumbo was and probably kinda still is the absolute face of like Minecraft Redstone like you can watch any video with mentioned in Redstone and Mumbo would be in the comments you couldn't make a single thing a single Contraption without a Mumbo joke being made or a reference being the top comment this man had a Stranglehold on Redstone one of the things that Mojang itself considers so important that it deserves its own official Minecraft guide it didn't hurt one bit that later he started collaborating with green who might not be the face of building another pillar of Minecraft but he was pretty damn close leading to a kind of gross pollination I guess of their audiences with the two main aspects of Minecraft Survival kind of converging and basically doubling the number of people who could spot that mustache from a mile away and like Mumbo himself says he definitely isn't the best At Redstone but he was on the ground talking about it a lot earlier than everyone else and in addition to be genuinely very talented and knowing his stuff mumbo's real skill is in how he packages that information how he makes you sit there and watch him Place little bits of dust on the ground for 20 minutes without getting bored oh and wait I completely forgot this as well mumbo's ideas are usually also like really simple which is not not that's not a disc like hear me up simple ideas are very easy to get across in titles and thumbnails and I'll talk a bit more on thumbnails later but because these ideas are so simple it's very common that the average player who's you know just messed around with redstone a little bit would come up with the same idea but not know how to implement it like it's all well in good thinking of like pushing around cows to make an automatic cow Farm or making an automatic weed farm but if you've just picked up the game it's genuinely pretty hard to make a decent attempt at it I mean I found my attempt when I started playing and behold automatic wheat farm yeah anyway what this means is that although the concept is simple and easy to understand the implementation is hard which draws people in and gets them interested especially when Mama was basically covering one of these Concepts every other day I had on to all of this that mumbo's filmmaker brain caught on to clean eye-catching bubbles way before they caught on on YouTube and you can see that not only with these Stand Out Among thumbnails with tons of text or other obnoxious features but that he used simple Concepts to make people interested I mean who wouldn't want to see what 2 million looks like in Minecraft you know it seems like Minecraft doesn't want me to see two million things at once which I think is a little bit ridiculous personally although there was that one time he might have taken it a bit too far on the hovercraft server there's the perfect circle that we have created in Minecraft I'm gonna take a screenshot of that but that's a story for another day I think that explains bombo's success I hope Shane's happy with that at least or at least a bit of it it does because I didn't even touch on hermitcraft or that entire Rabbit Hole speaking of which though hermitcraft is super interesting and having a ton of fun talking about his members and the server itself which just doesn't seem to die like ever even when Minecraft died her crop is still going strong which is kind of crazy if you think about it and if you're interested about that you should definitely watch this video where I talk about it a lot more it's see subscribe [Music]
