studio book club jeff mills right here on the cdl book club grounds and we are getting ready to perform the greatest pre-trip inspection class a for mva merlin license holders and i'm starting my keys in my pocket my wheel is and i'm going to enter the vehicle using three points of contact see you inside so i'm entering with three points of contact and i am going to i'm gonna get the key out my hand i'm gonna put it in the ignition and the first thing i want to do is put my seat belt on so now i'm going to turn the vehicle on but i must turn it on using a safe start so i'm gonna i'm checking my abs light abs light went out it probably worked i'm waiting for my heater coil to go out waiting on the heater coil to go out so i can safely start the truck it went out so now i'm gonna turn the truck on i'ma let the air pressure build up to the governor cutout rate so i can perform my air brake test so while i while the air pressure builds up i'm gonna start with my city horn my air horn they properly work my mirrors my hood mirror spot mirror and flat mirror they're not crack now broken and secure no looser missing parts and the mirrors are clean the windshield is not cracked now broken and secure no obstructions no outdated stickers the windshield wipers are flush to the windshield and the windshield wipers are not cracked not broken and secure no illegal wells no new submission parts and the blade is not dry routed afraid now my left turn signal indicator my right turn signal indicator and my four wheel my four four-way flashers they all properly work that that sneeze there was meaning that my vehicle has reached the governor cutout rate so now i'm gonna turn my four-way flashes off i turn my lights on so i can turn my high beam indicator it's on and properly work and my i have enough fuel to perform my test and my def tank i have enough def to perform my test as well now i'm going to i'm going to say that my three emergency equipment a fully charged abc fire extinguisher three reflective triangles and spare fuses are secure okay now for my vents i'll turn my vent on defrost and i'll turn it to the feet and i'm going to fill at the top and i'm going to fill down the bottom it probably works and then i'll turn to the vents and i'll fill the vents and they properly work so i turn that off and now the vehicle has reached the governor cutout rate so now i'm ready to perform my air brake test my parking brake test will be first and that would be the tug test so i'm going to push in my parking brake put my vehicle in drive and tap my accelerator tugging on the trailer brake starting now so i'm pushing the parking brake i'm gonna put my vehicle in drive and i'm gonna tap the accelerator i tap the accelerator the trailer brake help it properly work i'm gonna pull i'm gonna leave my vehicle in drive i'm gonna pull my parking brake out and push in the trailer brake to tug against the parking brake now i'm going to tap my accelerator now i tap the accelerator the parking brake held it properly work so i'm going to put my vehicle in neutral pull the trailer brake out and now i will explain my service break test for my service brake test i would drive five miles an hour forward apply the brake and it should not pull to the left or pull to the right no unusual filler now i have enough well i'm going to go ahead and build up my air pressure back to the governor cutout rate all right so i have enough air to perform my air pressure test my low air leak assess so i'm going to do three things i'm going to one turn the truck off two turn the key on so the dash lights up three push in the parking brake and trailer brake starting now one turn the truck off two turn the key on so the dash lights up [Music] three push in the parking brake yellow pushing the trailer brake red let the air settle give my time i'm gonna hold down the service break and i'm gonna hold it down for one minute and this vehicle should not lose no more than four psi within that minute and i'm going to start now holding the brake down i'm looking at my time and i'm looking at the gauges making sure that the truck does not lose no more than 4 psi within that minute so we're going to say we're going to say a minute is up so i'll take my foot off the brake i took my foot off the brake and i say that the vehicle did not lose no more than 4 psi now i'm going to fan my brakes down to 60 psi and my low air pressure indicator and buzzer should come on and then i will continue to fan my brakes down to 40 to 20 psi and the parking brake and trailer brake should pop out and if at any time you think that you don't have enough air for the brake to pop out you continue to fan that brake down until the brakes they will pop out all the way starting now my low air pressure indicator and buzzer came on it properly worked now my eyes are on the parking brake and trailer brakes and waiting for them both to pop out they both popped out so they both properly work so now i have my i have my lights on and i'm gonna get out the truck and we're gonna i'm gonna turn my four-way flashes on and we're going to check all everything outside now all right now we're going to check the exterior so i'm going to start with the id clearance lights they're not crack now broken they're secure on the truck they're amber in the front red to the rear and no condensation the turn signal lights they're not cracked not broken and secured hammer in the front red to the rear no condensation the headlights they're not cracked now broken and secure clean and clear the tag is properly mounted to the bumper with no outdated stickers the suspension is balanced if it wasn't balanced i'll place the vehicle out of service no leaks or puddles or broken glass or hanging wires underneath the vehicle if i had that i would place the vehicle out of service all tires are properly inflated to the manufacture specification now we're going to the passenger side so on this truck here um the windshield washer fluid reservoir is not cracked now broken and secure no leaks and we'll go on to the driver's side so i'm going to start with the air compressor it's not cracked not broken and secure no leaks and it's gear driven underneath the air compressor is the power steering pump it's not cracked not broken and secure and no leaks and it's gear driven the engine oil dipstick is not cracked now broken and secure and no leaks and how i would check it i would check it with the engine off and i will pull the stick out wipe it off insert it back in and pull it back out and it should read between the add and the full mark now the coolant reservoir is not cracked now broken and secure no leaks and it agrees between the ad and the full mark the went the water pump is not cracked now broken and secure no leaks and it's belt driven now my steering system so i'm gonna start with my power steering fluid reservoir it's not cracked now broken and secure no leaks and reeves between the ad and the full mark the steering shaft is not cracked not broken and secure no illegal wells no looser missing parts and should have no more than two inches of play free of debris the gearbox is not cracked now broken is secure no leaks the hoses they're not cracked now broken and secure that driver out afraid and no leaks the steering linkage is not cracked not broken and secure no illegal wells no loose emission parts and they're connected back castle nuts and cotter pins now to system number two is the braking system so my abs line and the brake hose they're not cracked now broken and secure not drive rider free no leaks the brake hose go to the brake chamber it's not crack now broken and secure no dents and no leaks if this truck had push rod and slack adjuster i would say push rod and slack adjuster is not crack now broken and secure no illegal welds no looser missing parts and when you pull on it by your hand you should not be able to pull on it no more than one inch by hand with the brakes released inside the wheel the brake drum is not cracked not broken and secure and no dents and no brake contaminants such as oil or metal shavings the brake shoe lining they're not cracked not broken and secure no illegal wells no looser missing parts and that worn dangerously thin now to the system number three is suspension system come on in i have the leaf springs they're in that crack not broken and secure no illegal whales no looser missing parts they're not shifted or missing the u-bolts they're in that crack now broken and secure no illegal wells no looser missing parts the axle is not cracked not broken insecure no illegal welds no looser missing parts the hangers in the front and in the rear they're in that crack now broken and secure no illegal welds no loose and missing parts and the frame is not cracked now broken and secure no illegal welds no loose and missing parts no extra holes this shock absorber is not cracked now broken and secure and no leaks and no loose or missing parts now my front steering tire is not cracked not broken and secure and not driver out of and has no leaks no cuts of bulges on the side walls the tread is evenly worn and the tread depth should be no less than 432 in tread depth front steering tire cannot be recapped the the how i will check the tread depth is with a tread depth gauge how check the air pressure is with a rubber mallet or air pressure gauge the rim is not cracked now broken and secure no illegal welds no looser missing parts the valve stem is not cracked now broken and secure no leaks has a metal cap all lug nuts on that crack now broken and secure none of those are missing if they were loose or missing they would show rust or shininess the oil hub come on in the oil hub is not cracked now broken and secure no loose emission parts and no leaks now i will close up my hood and strap it down on the passenger side first strap it down strap it down on the passenger side then i'm going to come on to the driver's side let me strap it down right here that's good now my def tank is not cracked not broken and secure no leaks the fuel tank is not cracked now broken and secure no leaks held up by metal and rubber straps the fuel tank has a cap that's hand tight with a rubber seal and a metal chain my air tanks my air tanks on my truck and on my trailer is not they're not cracked now broken and secure no leaks drain daily free of condensation now my my lines the electric line service line and the uh the uh the emergency line they're not cracked now broken and secure on my truck and trailer they're not cracked now broken and secure not dry rod afraid and no leaks now go to my fifth wheel come on in come on in the fifth wheel apron the apron sits on the fifth wheel it's probably the fifth wheel skid plate is properly greased no gap the fifth wheel is not cracked now broken and secure and no illegal welds no looser missing parts the fifth wheel sits on the platform the platform has mounting bolts and the release arm and the lock pin are in the lock position which means that the lock jaw is locked around the kingpin and the kingpin is securely mounted to the apron and all of these parts on that crack not broken and secure no illegal wells no loose or missing parts now to the d.o.t tape on my truck and reflectors and on my trailer they're in that crack now broken and secure clean proper color my left turn signal right turn signal four-way flashes and brake lights red in color they're not cracked now broken and secure and no condensation the reverse light and the tag light they're not cracked not broken and secure white in color with no condensations now my landing gear is not cracked now broken and secure no illegal wells no looser missing parts the arm is in the locked position the pad is in the raised position now i have clearance of three feet so that the truck and trailer don't hit now my trailer frame come on underneath my trailer frame and the cross members they're not cracked not broken and secure no illegal wells no looser missing parts and now we go to the abs light is not crack not broken and secure amber in color no condensation the d.o.t tape on the rear of the trailer is not cracked now broken and secure clean and proper color the id clearance lights and the left turn signal right turn signals four-way flashes and break lights they're all not crack not broken it's secure no condensation red in color the tag light is not cracked now broken and secure and it's
