hey everyone so it has been about two weeks since our last upload for those of you wondering yes we are home from Hawaii but we do have we had a wonderful experience but we do have a couple more videos to share from that trip but um the reason it's been a minute is because we kind of sat on this video for a little bit uh debating whether or not we wanted to release it after some thought we decided yes let's do it because you guys know us we don't want to be negative we definitely don't want to drag a restaurant needlessly but we do like to be honest with you guys and we want to share our experience in the event that maybe some of you guys are going to a Maui and so you know maybe steer clear in this place I don't know this video is not going to be for everyone I definitely recommend you don't eat while you watch it and um you know maybe watching an empty stomach I did have a little fun with this I titled the video the good bad the ugly we had some good food in Hawaii we had some bad food Hawaii and we had one situation that got really ugly as you know we usually release our videos chronologically we decided for this one let's just like kind of couple a few of our dining experiences together just to kind of give you some perspective I'm gonna be jumping in from time to time just to give you guys a little bit more clarity something big happened we didn't capture it on video when you see you're gonna understand you're gonna be like thank goodness you didn't grab the camera either you have bigger priorities elsewhere um but yeah uh I think without further Ado let's just get the video going look at us all freshened up we have gotten ready so fast we are at the mercy of Ubers right now uh if you don't have a rental car we're not joining ourselves which is probably a good thing but we are on our way to monkey pod kitchen which if you don't know is a merryman's restaurant so we're so excited um yeah this is what we're doing today right off the bat I do want to point out that our terrible dining experience did not involve monkeypod this is actually one of our favorite little spots um it's just up the street from where we were staying at the Four Seasons Resort um there are monkey pod locations all throughout Hawaii whether you're in Maui the big island or Oahu um but yeah I just wanted to put out there it wasn't monkey pod all right so we have sat down we're here at monkeypod we really didn't need a reservation we made one but we really didn't need one but right off the bat we were greeted with like the sweetest host here is a look at their culinary cocktails as you can see these are handcrafted culinary cocktails for 17 each right at the top we've got the monkey pod Mai Tai and then we've got a white walker I don't know what that is but that sounds like a lot of fun we've already put our order in for the monkey pod Mai Tai both Steve and I are we are both doing it yes and Caleb wanted some lemonade but our server let them know that there are actually three types of lemonade here there is classic lemonade a strawberry lemonade and a coconut cream lemonade look at that oh special that's your lemonade whoa creme de coconut lemonade [Music] good good thumbs up awesome I just took a drink of Caleb's uh coconut cream uh lemonade I'm not sure if that's the official title he's taking the Sip right now it is so good it is actually great so if you are not I know we do a lot of cocktails here we don't do a lot of non-alcoholic beverages but if you're looking for one monkey pods this is a great one oh my God this is delicious all right and first thing we're gonna look at is the kids menu and this is the Kiki menu so this is going to be exclusively just for kids like Caleb we're actually going to do the King Kong cheeseburger this includes Maui beef cheddar cheese and house cooked fries we always gonna love this so we're gonna start that for the rest of the minute okay so here we have the monkey pod Mai Tai this is what we have come for especially Steve and this is hula organic silver and dark rum Lime House made macadamia nut or jot bowls orange Curacao with a honey little quiet foam and I know that's what Steve comes here for is that little white foam once again like we had this last year at merryman's this is a merryman's restaurant so it doesn't surprise me that the mic Thai is very similar um it looks fabulous but I'm gonna let Steve give the review [Music] it's great it's good it definitely still it's very lime forward Mai Tai still so I know we've been saying that but the macadamia nut or shot is what really kind of differentiates a bit so the macadamia nut or jot is what makes it elevated in my opinion much better than we had so far here in our first second third trip come out let's start with appetizers we've got some roasted chicken wings some poke tacos pumpkin patch Ravioli and lobster deviled eggs oh my gosh everything here looks amazing to start we have the Poke tacos this is raw Ahi ginger shahoy cabbage avocado cream sauce with crisp wonton shells now as you know I am not a huge like seafood fish poke anything like this kind of a person but this looks delicious I'm actually never afraid anytime we're in Hawaii on the islands because I always know it's Super Fresh super flavorful I'm very excited about this so let's do it yes which one do you want me to grab this one yeah that's fine are you gonna do lime on top of first I can yeah yep all right and then grab the one closest to me ready wow that is really good very very fresh you always know Seafood is fresh when you don't get that like seafoody taste it sounds kind of weird when you say it like that but this is so good you can taste the crispiness of that shell and then the flavor of like the aioli on top very very good so Mike and I actually were just talking for a couple seconds before how do you describe fish so you describe fish when it's typically bad yeah or when it's like crusted or like when it's been like overly flavored if it has that seafoody taste exactly but when it's like fresh off the boat like what you're really focusing on is going to be the freshness so this has like a really great mouth feel it's got that great like that flavor to it because it's like definitely like that poke flavor that you know is just like it just has like that a nice like high quality it almost tastes like a like a filet mignon on the fish side right so like that's where you get from that but like mixed with that avocado Crema and the nice crispness of a taco you get the texture you get the nice like fattiness on it and you get the nice like elevated flavor with the avocado crab I like it okay so as we know everybody comes here for the monkey pod Mai Tai so we asked our server if we're not here for the mai tai what's the next best cocktail he did tell us that it's kind of hard at that point yeah because there's so many different ways you can go but he did recommend this drink this is called the White Walker Fifth Street Hawaiian gin Creme of coconut lime lemongrass cardamom syrup and Caper limely I always say Caper light I think it's something the fur life right that was our last video um this is very very nice it kind of tastes like something from like Galaxy's Edge so if you're going for that Vibe I highly recommend it but yeah interesting the White Walker okay little man has just completely passed out to no one's surprise he's been in the pool he's been in the ocean he went back to the pool he's been having a great time but lunch has shown up the Maui Cattle Company cheeseburger Maui beef Dijon aioli sauteed onions Fontina Vine ripened Tomatoes butter lettuce and housemate quick pickle this looks incredible and so Steve and I we decided to upgrade from the hand cut fries to the Truffle garlic aioli fries I think it looks fantastic but I'm gonna let Steve give you the review just as I expected this is going to be the burger that I've been dreaming of to go with that perfect Mai Tai having said that I finished my type before the burger but it is delicious they have those grilled Maui onions that definitely add the Elegance to it um it is a char-broiled burger patty so just know you're going to get that flame kiss all over it and then on top of that I noticed that it only has like a little bit of like a mustard seed like red red olive oil I think it adds a little bit of a different flavor profile which makes it stand out from the breast so I think it's a great burger I think it pairs well with the rest of their food and those fries are pretty flavorful that garlic aioli truffle oh it's really good for my second cocktail I ordered the new style so admittedly I have admit I'm a little bit over tarted from all the tropical drinks I had to go back to one of my favorites which is a close rip on old-fashioned it's called the new style it's made with more Roses Bourbon 100 Proof made with a house made orange vanilla shrub with angostura and Bitters tastes like a great a little bit of a sweeter old-fashioned but it's hitting the spot right now all right so we are back from monkey pod yeah and I had a great time did you I did like everything was really really great but I did want to come in and say something um I didn't review my burger there because it wasn't as good as I had remembered yeah he actually took a bite of mine and mine was far better than his that's what was so strange I was like your burger tastes totally different than mine but what you remembered from monkeypod right so mine was what you held as it yes for sure I don't know what was going on I we were kind of joking we were calling it The butane Burger because it tasted like um maybe it was a little too char-broiled maybe a little too close to the broiler I don't know had a very fuel taste to it yeah it was and it was completely overpowering everything else it did so but I just wanted to say that because I want to give you guys an honest review so I think my burger I just caught an off day but like Steve had a great time so um the the tacos were great the cocktails were awesome so I love that lemonade so overall well most of us had a great time yeah for sure so that wrapped up our lunch at monkeypod um the next day we hung out at the pool we just got pool food I had a burger that was absolutely incredible we wound up ordering it two different times on this trip because it was so delicious but that night was going to be a big dinner for us and this is where things got ugh just so dicey you guys um we got ready and we went to the andaz resort and that was that's like two Resorts down so we had to Uber there uh but we went to Morimoto as most of us know that's a restaurant you can frequent in Orlando at Disney Springs we've actually never been there but we have done um Morimoto in Maui before this exact restaurant and when we had been there previously this and granted it was years ago it was long before Caleb was around but we went with a big group we did this long drawn out dining experience it was kind of like a chef's experience everything was So Fresh So Delicious so that's what we we went in that's what we expected one thing I want to point out is if you can see in the footage Caleb is very animated he had a lot of energy he was in good spirits he was feeling good um but take a look for yourself all right so we have made our way over to another Resort this is the andaz resort tonight we are having dinner at Morimoto so we know we can have this in Downtown Disney Springs but here we are currently here in Maui we've actually only had it here in Maui so this is our second time trying it we're excited about retrying it it's not nothing better than fresh seafood right here in the island so we're definitely excited about that and so is Caleb so we'll see okay in a world of offices tonight I'm doing the martini tonight and Mike is doing the old-fashioned so tonight I'm doing the moromotini and this includes Japanese vodka and some sake as well so kind of interesting combo but it sounded kind of interesting so I wanted to try it it's not your straightforward um Martini it's definitely a sake forward so I'm not upset about it I knew what I was getting so it's gonna be a nice you know Japanese style cocktail here so I have tonight the smoke Bowl fashion this is Knob Creek bourbon orange and carpano Antica with bitters very good it is a classic style old-fashioned it did come it's very very smoked you definitely get that smoke like Pro what do you call like a profile Aroma oh that's what it is yeah you gotta be a robot oh okay um the nose and everything yeah he brought it in this little dish I didn't have the camera ready so I forgive me um but he lifted it up and the smoke came out I really like it all right so as you can see we've got these sticky ribs now when we're looking at our menu they immediately caught my attention but we also got an Instagram message from John you said don't miss out on the sticker so that's what we got here they smell so good like I think there's like some Hoisin glaze on here this has got a poison sweet chili glaze some cilantro and chili threads looks phenomenal these sticky ribs are properly named aptly named they are very sticky but with good flavor that sauce is very very good it's um you know flavor isn't very crisp and it just melts off the bone so much so that Caleb is loving this there's no chew at all ever whoever recommended this great recommendation we'll have to get this every single time we're here little man is going to town on these sticky ribs but he's such a gentleman because he doesn't want to get his hands dirty right so Caitlin's dinner has shown up this is the kids it is pork belly with some white rice but what's funny is that Steve and I we ordered the pork belly on the bow like when they sat this down Caleb was like I want that so I mean we're doing this kind of Tapas style so we're doing a lot of everything so we're all about sharing everything tonight all right you do love the bounce you do it's so tasty right you can have some of the Bell button for sure I love that you're eating and you're loving this okay so our first little I mean is this Sushi this is sushi right yeah sushi but the way we know sushi rolls the way we know right they call it Maki here and again that's probably the proper terminology but the Americanized version is sushi rolls so that's what we ordered today because that's what I know Mike likes and I want to make sure we're not venturing out too far out that's going to get them scared off with our dinner here yeah so I ordered uh spicy Yellow Tail and I also ordered their signature roll which is a soft shell crab um signature Maki roll so very excited about that and Caleb here is chowing down on his pork belly good morning [Music] oh gosh um let's work through it not my favorite I like the sweet Wings better oh yeah there's no comparison to sticklings to this it's fine it's fishy it's tasty it's too fishy for me all right let me give it a try yeah [Music] now nearly arrived is our vodka soaked beautiful sushi rolls they are so decadent so delicious I'm enjoying every bit of it so yeah real quick vodka sushi rolls when we first sat down Caleb spilled his water and it went all over the table so we were like oh no well our Sushi came Steve ordered himself a vodka martini and a fly comes and he tries to swat the fly with his Chopsticks not just martini right into this Sushi as you can see here I mean it's it's definitely a bit of vodka so we're dealing with a um we're done with a laced Sushi situation soaked and it was at this point where we kind of just stopped vlogging we capture a few things here and there which I'll show but um we could kind of tell that this was going downhill after a few more bites of that Sushi I had no more um but after a few more bites Steve conceded and he kind of looked at me and he was like okay it tastes kind of funky but the next sushi we got we didn't even Vlog it and it was a soft shell crab one I almost wish just just out of morbid curiosity um I kind of wish Steve had vlogged it because you guys I took a bite and like a child I had to spit it out in my napkin it was so bad and Steve took a bite he agreed with me there was just something funky about the sushi that night it was just not good it was not fresh it just had a really bad nasty flavor but we did wind up getting um a steak and that was fine I think I enjoyed that more than Steve I think Steve really needed that sauce um but as we were um about halfway through the stake little man put down his iPad and he just looked at Steve and said dad I don't feel it just went everywhere it was everywhere you guys and I would say at this point it was probably about 40 minutes maybe 30 40 minutes after he had finished eating and for those of you who want to say like oh well that's why you don't feed your kid pork belly let me just say Caleb eats pork belly all the time we have a place out here in Gilbert called Clever Koi which is where we go have our ramen he eats pork belly Ramen all the time and he well we saw the footage he was enjoying it at the dinner so I do want to put that out there what's odd was that we all had pork belly now his was served differently right it was over the bed of rice ours was in a bow bun but yeah it just did not agree with him um he threw up all over the table and uh Steve quickly grabbed him to kind of clean him up real quick and as Steve put a napkin to his face it just and if you've ever seen a five-year-old just there's no stopping it it's just gushing out I I'm sorry to be so graphic but um so I quickly I was I was at a position where I could get out easier so I grabbed Caleb and I rushed him to the bathroom and of course it never fails their bathroom it's one of those like a single bathroom you know there's no men's and there's a women but you lock the door and you're the only people in there so while I'm in there with Caleb trying to clean him up trying to console him trying to calm him down of course you know people are knocking on the door people have to use the bathroom it was a nightmare you guys um but while I was in there with Caleb cleaning him up he threw up a third time it was not fun so luckily Steve texted me he's like the check is settled just I got I grabbed everything um just meet me in the lobby like I said we were not at our home Resort so we had to wait for an Uber to drive us back but what was unusual was that Caleb was like he was a little kind of slow and just kind of like you know icky at the beginning but by the time like the Uber came around he was in good spirits again I think he threw everything bad up um that night he actually had a fine night he wanted to stay up late the next morning he woke up just fine he ate breakfast so I firmly believe he just got a really bad piece of pork belly I think it was not handled properly in the kitchen uh yeah so that's what happened as I mentioned at the beginning of this video we kind of debated as to whether or not we wanted to put this out there but I think when you take into account the fact that our child got sick it was obviously something he ate and then two different orders of sushi that we had um they both tasted funky like I We're not gonna go back um and it's up to you as to whether or not you will go after watching this video but so aptly name the title of this video works perfectly The Good the Bad and the Ugly yeah I had a good experience at monkeypod to the point that I actually convinced Mike to go later on our vacation to retry it so you'll see a video of that again in the future but um I don't think we will ever ever go back to morimoto's here or in Disney or recommend it to anybody we just had a really really bad experience and we just we don't want to relive that right for sure so well I hate to end this video on such a downer but um as I mentioned earlier we do have a couple more Hawaii videos coming up we had some really great dining after this we did yeah the overall the experience was fantastic and I'm really happy that little man was able to rebound so quickly so that he had a great vacation and it didn't have like a negative impact for the entire trip so with that I'm excited to show the rest I'm excited to show Mike's excited to edit the rest of the footage that we filmed for this trip we had such an amazing time and we're excited for you all to see it we hope you like this video a thumbs up don't forget to
