the Formula One paddock is where all the action happens I'll tell you more in just a moment I spent most of my time in the Formula One paddock except when I'm out taking photos on track so let me run you through some of the interesting things about the various paddocks around the world for a start this is where you want to be this is the entrance into the Baku paddock and Azerbaijan to get in you need to go through these swipe gates to get through the swipe gates you need a media pass or a pass that allows you access to that paddock now you can't buy these tickets you'd love to I'm sure but you can't people who get access are working people media teams personnel guests of teams like Red Bull and Mercedes but certainly it's not a ticket that's freely available so once you get into the paddock you're into this marvellous world now if we take this one here this is Barcelona and there are two separate types of paddocks I'll run through the European paddocks they differ from the other tracks in so much as the teams bring in their own motorhomes so in the case of Barcelona on the left-hand side of this image you can see here that these are motorhomes which handle a Woods house the engineering side of things on the right-hand side here this is all hospitality and they run from one end of the paddock to the other it's probably a distance of I'm thinking two hundred and fifty two to three hundred metres Barcelona again a tighter shot as you can see the structures on the right are quite huge and I'll run through those in detail shortly here's a wide-angle shot here of the French paddock this is where are we here we are in Italy at Monza once again you have on one side of the paddock the engineering on the left and the right we have the hospitality Suites kicking forward is another wide shot in Monaco completely different normally it's all condensed into one separate area but in Monaco because of space constraints all of the engineering staff sit above tract on the main straight here in the pits and all the hospitality is down here in fact it's it's even it's even out of this shot isn't it goes right underneath here but that the beauty of that for a photographer is that for the drivers to get from hospitality to the engineering or to the garage it's a very long walk it's over this bridge here this Casino de monte-carlo bridge and that gives us a great opportunity to shoot them out in the open with fans around here's Silverstone on the left-hand side you have the the garages and upstairs some hospitality not for the teams but for corporates and that sort of thing on the right-hand side of this picture you see the engineering motorhomes which is now on the left of this picture and on the right are the hospitality suites now it's not definite where each race each of these teams set up it depends and I gather then I'll take a punt on this that the higher you are in the hierarchy the better your positioning will be so Mercedes would typically get the best spot here's the paddock in Belgium on a gray morning last race this year's race but the Belgium paddock is different in so much as down here on this level and I'm standing on some stairs looking down are all of the hospitality upstairs to my left here in this photo up some stairs is the the pit straight it's where all the garages are and all the engineering motoring homes so these structures are brought in on trucks for instance this one here this is a three story high Mercedes hospitality suite is fantastic on the ground level there is a dining and we have the opportunity as if want photographers on Friday Saturday and Sunday to be treated to a meal on the ground level there at Mercedes and it is a beautiful feed I promise you Ferrari have two separate hospitality suites on the left is for their staff and corporate customers on the right is for media on the ground level once again Ferrari serves a great meal at lunch and it's typically Italian this is the glamour structure this is the Red Bull energy station new for this year and it houses two separate teams on the left Toro Rosso on the right Aston Martin Red Bull and by day you can see the height of the thing it's a monster structure it clearly is the dominant feature in the European paddocks except when you get to Monaco and they ramp it up even further with this monstrous structure here which has its own pool and this is a pool where winner Red Bull drive all wins they go for a dip in at the end of the race in their race suit and of course you get that marvelous backdrop of Monaco renault has two large motorhomes either side of a stretched out area for their hospitality here's the motorhome for McLaren I happen to know that recently because I spoke to Sid and some of the guys that work on packing this up and setting it up that they had to get this from Spa to Monza in a day they had to take it down which they start work once the race finishes sorry once the race starts on a Sunday these guys are in there working feverishly to pack it up and then they have to transport it by Road to Italy and once it's in Italy they then reset it up so they have three days I think to get this all done and they even take a sleeping bus to get down there so that's the beautiful McClaren structure at night looks pretty flash huh Hoss not quite as lavish but still nice it's a good home to have this is racing points three story structure there's some entertaining areas up on the open-air roof Alfa Romeos looks classy with that sale type effect and then the final one in the pit is Williams or in the paddock there's Williams but then on top of that you get Pirelli which has this marvelous structure FIA have their own trucks and occasionally DHL bring in this other magnificent looking structure on the left so those are the motor homes that are used in Europe that's nine races this year so let's move away from that now to the other tracks his Melbourne and Melbourne has some structures that are put up for the Formula One Grand Prix on the left-hand side and on the right are the pits Abu Dhabi has permanent structures here and they are quite lavish and beautifully built structures on the left on the right you have the garages and this is a view from up on high Singapore on the Left garages on the right we have these two-story what would you call them Suites there okay and in fact these were new last year and upgraded from the year prior in Baku they're harder structures almost contain alike and the teams have one or two of those per team and on the right hand side here you see hospitality on the left-hand side you see the entrance to the garages I think the bahrain paddock is probably one of the nicest it's wide it's got permanent structures on the Left garages on the right or vice versa in this particular picture but it really comes alive at night when all these trees have lit up with fairy lights and of course lighting on the left for the garages go to Mexico we've got these structures on the right here and the garages on the left it's a nice paddock and a very beautiful shot to be had first thing in the morning it's it's quite glorious and with that orange light that comes through this was a rainy day in Austin garages on the right and the hospitality suites on the left they're nothing special they're probably the most ordinary of all the offerings around the f1 circuits and this is Sachi with some hard structures on the left and on the right we have the garages well in fact this is Japan and their their hospitality suites are probably on par with the other one I just mentioned they're ordinary but it is what it is Brazil quite a small paddock in width with these structures on the Left well now on the right for a hospitality and on the left the garages and without a doubt the most solace paddock of all is China it's this wide expanse with absolutely nothing in it except last year they had that F 1000 logo printed on there so that gives you an idea of the different paddocks around the world but certainly that is where all of the action happens it's where you see the drivers going to and from the garages and and and at certain races there is a long walk from the hospitality suite to the garage and other races it's a short walk we like the long loss because it gives us an opportunity to snap pictures of the drivers in the paddock interacting with fans interacting with others other team personnel I hope you've learned a couple of things about the different paddocks around the world
