months this is a film starring Bruce Willis and Mila yovich and guess what it also has Gary Ol Man in it that cast sounds absolutely amazing obviously we love Bruce Willis we're a huge fan of his movies mil yovich you know she's always had our hearts since the Resident Evil movies as well and Gary Oldman is obviously iconic and like the cool thing is you know this has some sci-fi elements and nobody wants to deal with his mom no the mom doesn't sound very pleasant hey hey The Fifth Element who new wow whoa okay this this felt like a crazy fever dream I have to say there's elements of this that worked for me and there's elements of this that didn't quite stick The Landing elements that worked for me were definitely the fifth one just kidding just kidding elements that worked for me I would say the visual aspect of this film is superb I mean it looks it really looks out of this world it has this you know futuristic aesthetic very colorful and Poppy very you know very much of its time what I think the '90s would imagine that the future would look like and I think uh it's a great contract especially after watching Back to the Future too how different decades envisioned the future right this is very much like very like cybernetic kind of cyber Punky aesthetic to it and it kind of reminded me of like what the Total Recall was doing especially with the set design and with the costume design like these guys really got the makeup and the visuals and the set design like they they really nailed that aspect of the film yeah I absolutely agree the visuals of this were stunning I love the practicality of the set design I love that they put in the effort to you know make the sets and like the spaceships and all that it felt very real added a a depth to the world which made it feel very lived in I I can imagine it existing you know what I mean it it felt very real that's quite a beat if you think about it especially considering how over the toop some of the elements of this war um I genuinely enjoyed you know like the moments where they really acknowledge the seriousness of the situation especially in the moments where you know where we get to kind of see lelu discover the world and understand the humans and kind of try to understand how we work and what about us is worth saving it it's a fair question to pose granted cuz you know a lot of bad things happen a lot of good things happen I would have I would have loved more of that you know I would have loved um to see more of her seeing some of the beauty as well as the violence I feel like you know she she got a little unlucky you know she got a whole lot of violence she got a whole lot of the bad side of humans you know like there's also the good side you know she had a bunch of people who were trying to help her just people who were put into this circumstance just by pure chance and they made it work and they ended up helping her out and like that core of this I I genuinely did enjoy yeah I agree with you I would have liked to see more of that theme throughout the film like they do show it but but it doesn't really play a role in like we see lelu reacting to it but I would have liked them to really delve into the whole the film is clearly trying to State a message which is like you know we humans are not always great especially when we you know deal with war and violence and so much unnecessary loss really and I think you know that's a pretty cool theme to tackle I just wish they would have taken their time a little bit more to Del a little bit deeper into you know those serious moments like you stated you know I felt like a lot of this film clashed with itself during certain segments like I feel like some of the comedic moments kind of cut through more of the dramatic tones and I feel like you know some of the the comedic moments could have waited a little bit longer to uh be executed I think they kind of interrupted some of the more serious things happening in the film and I think they they could have just waited a little bit longer and that goes both ways I think some of the comedic moments could have been a bit more effective if we didn't get hit in the face by something like severely drastic that was about to happen so I think you know in terms of pacing this wasn't really the best one out there normally we complement the pacing I think this is the first one where we're like some of it felt kind of you know sto and go and and felt like it was competing against itself I can understand what they were going for I just don't think it it landed with me personally especially like how they executed certain you know sequences I did enjoy however Bruce Willis and Mila yovich like their chemistry their interactions Mila killed it I mean her uh being this being that's not from this world and and understanding our planet and our people getting to learn our language that initial interaction when she crashes through the cab I thought that sequence was exhilarating I mean that whole cab scene and and seeing you know Bruce Willis trying to like make sense of this right like a woman just landed through the roof of my cab like it's not a normal day you know yeah I liked his interaction with her throughout the entire film and you know how he was just Smitten by her as soon as he saw her like he saw an angel I would say about like the first half of the film for me was absolutely great I think there was a great balance there um where we still got the campiness cuz I understand that that is the point here there is supposed to be that over-the-topness the campiness it makes sense especially because the world surrounding our characters is also kind of crazy and things are Bonkers C some parts of the humor maybe it is because it felt a little dated preference wise I would have I would have loved if they had taken just a little bit more of a serious tone because when the humor and is so over the top plus the visuals it's like said it it did compete with itself and then in in the end it felt like a little overwhelming for the audience where you don't really quite know which part of it to take and what emotion to feel so it's like do do we laugh at you know for example like Ruby being absolutely insane and just so fabulous in this situation while there's a whole bunch of you know Mayhem going on or do we look at the fact that you know we're running out of time and there's a bomb that's about to go off you know um I feel like there they could have taken just a little bit of a pause on and some of the humor um I think comedy is tough to nail especially when you're trying to combine it with a deeply dramatic theme like this performance-wise I absolutely love Mila yovich in this I think she brought such a wonderful Purity and genuiness and vulnerability to the character which is the perfect antithesis to someone like Bruce Willis right someone like Corbin who is Jaded with life he's he's kind of done with everything he's just trying to make it to the end of the day he's just trying to get a new job right now that was really the drawing Point that's what locks in the movie and that is one of my favorite parts of this it's it's their characters kind of learning from each other I wish they could have leaned a little bit more into that all in all I think you know this is a a mustat for everybody that's a fan of film making just purely because you know the visual aspect and also the that performance that Mila brought to the table with Bruce and like like you mentioned like that innocence that she brought was really interesting to see like she I really bought that she was this person who's never seen anything about our planet before and and you know she was experiencing everything for the first time I loved her performance in this I think she's really the standout the soundtrack was great too it's so interesting like some of the sounds that they utilize like again they transported us to a different universe and they did that you know very effectively I think the set designs like they really put in a lot of attention to detail to make this world feel alive like you mentioned before it feels lived in and you know I I like that you can start to see the mesh right now in this film you know between the Practical the makeup and all and all that with the CGI you know and you could see that obviously it's it's a little bit dated now it's been like 20 plus years but I think at the time it could have been you know such an amazing feat to start to combine those features and until this day like I we always say we really enjoy when films take that approach and they do something practically but they always combine it with the CGI cuz we you know most of the time we get the best results uh when we do that so I really did appreciate this film for that um you know the whole Fifth Element being you know true love per se and her being the perfect being I thought that was pretty cool you know like a bit on the nose maybe for the theme that they were going for but I think it works you know because like you mentioned it's it's all Campion and it's a bit over the top so yeah it makes sense that something as pure as genuine love that would be enough to save you know the world from Evil so you know I thought that was kind of cute and then the end there with them just you know having a good old time you know he's he's still trying to find the Fifth Element yeah they had a couple more minutes to go so you know hope they made the most of it guys thank
