TFW born too soon to live in a matrioshka brain
For some reason watching this video made me realize that aliens would never come to earth to seize our resources. There are so many planets out there that are already barren, orders of magnitude larger then earth, and chock full of whatever you could want. There is certainly no shortage of unclaimed resources in the universe.
Unless of course intelligent life is a resource.
It is more likely for us to be contacted by biological aliens, or by artificial intelligence created by biological aliens?
-Edit
so my next question is - if this AI spreads and it adds mass to itself - when it encounters sentient life maybe it feels morally obligated to avoid it? Since it is stealing up all the stars - planets - and Non-Living mass in the rest of the universe - it allows us to not be incorporated into itself out of respect for life - but if it contacted us and said "yeah , I am the entire universe you were planning on conquering now" it would be a little too mind blowing.

I certainly lean more towards advanced civilization exploring inward (internet universe) rather than outward.
It's so fascinating to me that as individuals, we know we're only going to make it to around 70-80 years old, or a couple decades longer if we're really lucky.
But humanity as a whole, nobody has the faintest clue if we'll be gone in 50 years or still sticking it out in 5,000,000.
I like the idea of a great filter and we can't be sure if we have survived the filter or if its still ahead of us
