just when I think I can't possibly be surprised by a new way in which Chinese manufacturers are putting out motherboards we get this in the mail [Music] today's video is brought to you by brilliant.org because well I'm not so brilliant like a lot of you I didn't retain a thing from high school math was for losers computers were for dorks but now the losers and the dorks are running the world see yours truly but it's not too late for you or me thanks to brilliant.org they say math is just another way of seeing things like putting glasses on your brain which makes brilliant an optometrist fitting you for bifocals but without the eye drops or the puff of air that makes me really uncomfortable they've got thousands of interactive lessons the types you wish Miss Dent had back in the fourth grade when she told you if you didn't sit still and do your mad minutes you'd be sweeping floors for the rest of your life best of all it's built for busy people blending a better balance for beginners making it a breeze to boost your brain without busting your balls brilliant visit brilliant.org craft Computing to try everything they have to offer for free for a full 30 days and the first 200 people will get 20 off Brilliance annual premium subscription encryption again that's brilliant.org craft Computing and thanks again to brilliant for sponsoring today's video welcome back to craft Computing everyone as always I'm Jeff and this is going to be one of the weirdest motherboards I have ever reviewed on the channel and that's saying something now this is not a New Concept at all with having a desktop motherboard fitted with a mobile CPU that's right this does not feature a standard desktop chip but rather a mobile Intel tiger Lake CPU mounted onto a Micro ATX desktop motherboard so what is this thing all about well like I said this is an Intel tiger Lake although it is a engineering sample that is supposedly similar to an 11 900h which is an I-9 overclockable unlocked mobile variant but an engineering sample of said uh this is gonna be weird I don't know if overclocking is enabled I don't know if the video ports work I don't know anything about this other than man if we're able to get this to like four and a half gigahertz this could be an incredible value as this motherboard and CPU shipped to me from AliExpress for 160 dollars so if you're looking for high-end High single threaded performance you're going to want to pay attention here as far as these Chinese market motherboards go the contents of this box are actually a very pleasant surprise not only do we have the io shield and the standard one Sata cable there's actually also some thermal paste included as well as a full user manual and the user manuals in English so this is already on better footing than just about any of these motherboards that I've reviewed in the past thanks for purchasing iring motherboard which provides excellent performance and quality assurance package contents One matx gaming motherboard two SATA cable I only saw the one uh one user manual and one i o Shield uh erieing matx motherboard is based on the Intel hm 570 z590 chipset uh so again that's a variant of mobile and it's probably a mobile chipset on here that they're pretending is a z590 or maybe it's none of those and maybe it's another like c612 or something supports ddr4 2133 through 3200 uh and has one PCI Express 4.0 x16 slot a PCI Express 3.0 X1 slot 2ddr4 memory slots and two m.2 ssds and one Wi-Fi slot so I actually didn't notice this looking at the motherboard at first there is an m.2 right there and I'd seen the Wi-Fi slot but there's a stacked m.2 for storage on top of that so yeah two SSD m.2s so let's go ahead and get our CMOS battery into place and get this thing together today we're just going to stack this onto a test bench but to eliminate any kind of GPU bottleneck we are going to pair it with a Titan XP go and install our storage first we're using a patriot p310 240 gig gen 3 SSD not sure if these slots are going to be gen 3 or gen 4. I know the x16 slot is a Gen 4 but the m.2 slots are kind of a mystery for game storage we're going to be using a silicon power a55 one terabyte SATA SSD for our memory I've got a pair of adata 3200 ddr4 sticks so these should be fully supported at their native speed this is a 16 gig kit and for our cooler I'm going with for an I9 what would normally be a woefully underpowered cooler but considering this is a mobile CPU with a 45 watt TDP I'm going to go with a 92 millimeter Tower cooler in the Scythe biaco now this is an older cooler that you can't buy anymore it has been replaced by a couple of different models also you can look at the be quiet BK 30 in a similar form factor for about thirty dollars so fairly inexpensive nice and compact size and should do more than an adequate job on this CPU now one of the most interesting things about this CPU is the fact that it's not socketed this is a BGA soldered CPU and they've gone ahead and installed this uh aluminum plate with a copper slug in the middle to act as some heat transfer as the mobile Intel dies are direct dye cooling so they added a little bit of a shim so you can install a standard 1150 size CPU mount foreign [Music] [Music] little fan extension because this is one of the Titans that I modified the fan to have an external pwm header so I could control the fan speed from my server and with that we're ready to plug in some cables and see what happens all right so not only is it all assembled and turned on it actually posted as well so let's take a look at our bio screen uh here on the main page we can see it is reporting an Intel hm 570 chipset it does say it is a tiger Lake CPU and genuine Intel which is not overly surprising uh speed is being reported at 2.6 gigahertz although let me take a look at the 11900h and see what the base clock is supposed to be doesn't actually specify interesting uh so I know starting with tiger Lake they started doing some weird things with base clock overclock Etc um so and it's all TDP dependent uh this chip is designed to go up to 45 Watts so I'll be really curious to see if we can actually hit that even on this engineering sample but let's go ahead and continue on down our list our memory appears to be running at 20 666 out of the box a little surprising that it's not just at the base of 2133 with no other configuration required although I do need to see if I can get this up to 3200. jumping on over to our Advanced menu and the first thing that caught my eye is that overclocking is enabled on this motherboard so that could be a fun thing to play with I don't know if we're going to dive too much into it today because I'm not overly skilled in perklore overclocking which is usually the BIOS level overclocking without the smart switches and things like that I I'm not an overclocker it's not something that I do a lot but I am so thrilled to see it inside of this bios what I want to see though is if I go to memory configuration and let's see maximum memory frequency interesting it says we can do 2667 2933 3067 or 333 I don't see a 3200 configuration uh tell you what let's do the 3.06 and see if that's able to work and before I change too much let's go ahead and just see if the memory will post and let's get into windows okay nice custom eerieing bios screen and just like that we are into windows let's go and see what Hardware info and cpu-z have to say about this thing all right cpu-z it is being recognized again as a tiger lake mobile CPU with a Max TDP of 45 Watts that's a good sign uh 10 nanometer 8 core 16 thread and what catches my eye in both of these panels is that this is boosting all the way up to 4.8 gigahertz out of the box that is more than a little encouraging uh if we jump on over to our memory uh we're still running at 26.66 so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to modify that at all I I looked all through the BIOS off camera I can't find a way to enable the xmp1 profile it's running on the xmp2 right now which is why we're at 26.66 but that might take a little bit more digging to find that exact option but beside this being an engineering sample uh this is all extremely encouraging for what could be a pretty fantastic value CPU we're idling at 34 degrees when nothing's going on we're jumping upwards of 40 for you know system idle tasks our low has been 30. so again with only a 45 watt TDP this heatsink is more than overkill for this processor I'm gonna go and fire up cinebench R15 now I should say I'm not expecting the world out of the CPU what I'm expecting it to do is perform very well in games and maybe okay and some more professional tasks again it is a laptop CPU so let's go ahead and see what happens now a ryzen 1700 is kind of my base level for a multi-threaded 8 core 16 thread CPU I would expect somewhere in the neighborhood of about 15 to 1600 points out of a CPU like that uh let's see what 45 Watts a tiger like can deliver 2103 2103 that is tied with a ryzen 7 3700x that's an Intel I9 9900k I don't know what to say about that is this going to sustain that are we going to eventually dive off the thermal head I don't think so with this cooler because this CPU will not throttle until 105 degrees Celsius Under full AVX workload we're hitting 81. there's a 2106. let's run it again yeah we seem to be peaking right around 80 degrees and we're holding a 4.1 gigahertz clock Under full AVX workload 2102 this is nothing if not consistent that's three straight runs within five points of each other well there's a little bit of a dip we went to 3.5 we went to three five this is going to be a slower run 1928 okay yeah 1895 slower still so our temperatures didn't increase but Intel boost technology the the way Intel does its boost is it will boost us to a certain level of power until it hits a certain uh temperature in most cases it's 105 or even sometimes 90 for a second tier uh down clock but then it's also a factor of time where it will only hold a boost for a certain length of time uh and I think we might have triggered that be interesting to see if we can get around that in any way because man if we can hold a 4.1 gigahertz or even higher if we're considering gaming workloads this thing's crazy 1895 it's still crazy I mean we're beating gen 1 threadrippers and even second generation ryzen chips with a 2700 X that's a Zen plus CPU uh 1774. I'm shocked I shouldn't be that shocked but I'm a little shocked I'm not going to make it run R23 but what do you say we give it at least one run in R20 and then we check single threaded performance in R15 all right here's an R20 run I have a lot less of my CPUs archived on here but we do have uh threadripper 1950x16 core we've got the ryzen 3800 XT uh I9 9900k so again a similar set of CPUs that we were comparing against on the last test let's see how this holds up in an even harder workload again jumping right up to that 4.1 gigahertz Mark ah see there's your uh your limit uh this is actually pulling upwards of 82 watts of power so that Intel boost is only able to run at that TDP for I believe it's 90 seconds and then there's a timer which allows it to down clock I think it's like 30 seconds and then it can go another 90 and and run at that same level again and yeah you can see the longer we've gone it's now down to its 43 watt TDP that makes a lot of sense so it looks like 3.5 for AVX is going to be your extended work time and frequency to run on the CPU but it will burst upwards of above 80 Watts but not that that's a Shabby result at all considering we just scored a 48.93 just barely losing out to the ryzen 7 3800 XT and still beating out some pretty heavy hitting processors in the 7820x the 9900k this thing's cool and one final test let's run cinebench R15 in single threaded mode and see if we can actually hold a higher frequency without boosting all of our TDP away so yeah you can see a couple of cores jumping upwards of 4.6 4.7 gigahertz which again bodes very well for gaming because we're only using 17 watts of our TDP at this setting so again in theory this isn't going to be the most tremendous workstation CPU although seeing as how it's tying modern desktop chips in multi-threaded workload it might be uh but for gaming it's going to be able to hold those boost clocks a lot longer I think this is going to score above 200. yeah we're finishing up the Benchmark we're still running at about 4.7 on the fastest core here we go 2 36. wow that beats out my overclocked 9900k that split the difference between an overclocked 9900k and a 5950x holy well going into this I thought this was going to be a pretty solid deal but I was expecting a good number of quirks just based on the cinebench benchmarking alone I 160 dollars shipped for eight core 16 thread man tiger lake is legit even in an engineering sample that doesn't have all of the extra horsepower or binning that a final production and consumer chip would all right man if there's a way to get this thing to run 80 Watts full time we need to figure that out but for right now what do you say we go ahead and just uh fire up a game and see what it does so here we are in Tiny Tina's wonderlands uh let's go ahead and set this to 1080P and we'll do medium settings to see if we can stress that CPU just a little bit more than I might normally uh and let's get into this uh we are running at hold on why am I not shooting like back to you as soon as I can figure out why my gun won't fire so I'm only about 60 seconds into this game and I think my theory about this being a phenomenal value gaming CPU are going to hold true uh we're easily peaking up to 4.2 even 4.4 and 4.5 gigahertz at times at around 30 watts of TDP which means it's going to be able to hold this boost clock indefinitely we're not stressing this CPU in any way shape or form and we're sitting at about 55 degrees Celsius I'll be damned it was the polling rate on the USB 2. fix the mouse yeah here we're running at 150 FPS at 1080p this CPU is not even breaking a sweat man the really crazy thing about this entire setup when you're talking about a off-market motherboard that runs an Intel engineering sample of a mobile overclockable CPU uh the crazy thing about this setup is just how incredibly affordable this could be even with a Titan XP even with a 32 gigabyte ddr4 RAM kit nvme storage one terabyte SATA drive uh you could in theory be looking at a sub 500 build that would easily be a 1080p 144 Hertz gaming PC I sure hope the toasty Bros don't buy up all the stock of this because holy crap I want some of you to be able to play these yeah 58 degrees Celsius 4.2 gigahertz 120 FPS what more could you ask for if it wasn't immediately obvious I am completely blown away that this platform works as well as it does and that pretty much everything on it is exactly what was advertised so many times I have purchased Chinese market motherboards and yes they're supposed to be a little bit odd and they're supposed to be a little bit hacked together but they'll advertise an x79 chipset when actually it's a c602 they'll advertise as having full DDR or PCI Express support and then it comes and it's half baked this is actually an Intel hm 570 chipset we've got dvr4 that in theory could be supported up to 3200 although again I didn't find that menu option but something tells me it's there uh we've got PCR Express 4.0 x16 we've got dual nvmes plus a dedicated uh m.2 for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity now I will say on the rear of the motherboard the connectivity options are not phenomenal we've got four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0s we do have gigabit Ethernet onboard audio and the outputs for the uh built-in GPU on the Intel which I did confirm work but I did have one issue with the USB 2.0 that does need to be addressed here when I was trying to play a couple of different games my mouse would not fire the left click didn't seem to be working now this was only a problem that cropped up in games at least that I noticed and I don't know if it's an issue with polling rate I don't know if an ish if it's an issue with power or what but this happened multiple times where I would try to fire my gun at an enemy and it just wouldn't moving the mouse onto the USB 3.0 controller solved the issue it's worth noting though that there's only two USB 3.0 ports on this board now as far as front panel options you do have up to two more USB 2.0 headers but those are likely using the same USB 2.0 controller and then a single USB 3.0 front header for two additional ports if you are looking at getting this motherboard it might be worth investing in a 1x PCI Express card to add maybe an extra four ports and an additional controller where you won't have this particular issue even with that negative on this board though I've got to say I am so so thoroughly impressed and so stoked on the value of this platform a hundred and sixty dollars for a motherboard and CPU combination that only draws 30 to 45 Watts from the wall that can straight up beat a ryzen 3700x or an Intel I9 9900k the value here cannot be understated in what you're getting even with a couple of quirks but what do you guys think is some slightly flaky USB connectivity that you can totally work around for about twenty dollars worth the trade-off for the amount of power that you get on this motherboard let me know down in the comments below also be sure to check the video description for the eerieing 11900h motherboard and CPU combo I do have an affiliate link down there please go give that a look on your way down there make sure to drop this video a like And subscribe to craft Computing if you haven't done so already follow me on Mastodon for daily Shenanigans like this and if you like the content you see on this channel I want to help support me in what I do consider joining the patreon link is also down in the video description that's gonna do it for me in this one thank you all so much for watching and as always I will see you in the next video cheers and I'm really sad this beer is gone beer for today is in French but it has one of my favorite words ever in Amaretto uh so this is the Amaretto truffle uh dark chocolate and almond Pearl nine percent extra strong ale it's having a really hard time since the can is dented but uh Amaretto is at the Rendezvous in this rich and untight what's funny is now it says Tangy all right Amaretto is out the Rendezvous in this rich and tangy Chocolate Stout the delicious bitterness of chocolate combines with the natural complexity to the perfect liquid dessert nine percent 40 IBU uh served between 11 and 16 C I'm actually a little a little on the war or a cool side for that I my fridge is set to I believe it's 4C but uh let's see what this does I mean this could be Dove chocolate or Dove the body wash bar it's equally as smooth I will say it's got that that cherry Amaretto finish it's it's got that that almond liqueur way hidden in the background uh most people when they try almaretto for the first time they go oh it's like a cherry liqueur no it's almond but there are some cherry presenting notes that kind of make it that distinguished flavor this is ending with that flavor it's perfect all that chocolate right up front and yeah kind of a kind of sweet kind of Tangy incredibly smooth and Incredibly rich ah that is a good beer foreign foreign
