you you it is a thornbush its own trees with the whole aim of the other hedge Lakers is to form a barrier to prevent sheep or cattle it's getting through unless we realize that we are ourselves very much a part of nature and not just separate from her which is what people would being brought up to believe the Prince of Wales had a vision he wanted to try organic farming so when I've came here 24 years ago and was asked my interview for the job would I be prepared to try some biologically sustainable farming and I didn't really know what that meant but I said yes course it's an interview USA yes 30 years ago Prince Charles and his charismatic farm manager David Wilson started an unconventional agricultural project it's political and ecological topicality are undeniable but His Royal Highness was met with ridicule and disbelief you could imagine it was considered mad and to suffer the usual ridicule and abuse do you somehow track through the fifth suggesting that the conventional world view might not necessarily be the only way of looking at before we started you could pick up a handful of soil it was I don't know it had this sort of funny dead feeling but the moment we went through the process of conversion and started to build nitrogen in the soil naturally who started to notice a change one of the first surprises to me was really occurred when we planted clover and grass in a mixture and looked and put no fertilizer on it at all and to my astonishment he grew incredibly well and that that was the first stage of my eyes being open to an alternative way of producing grazing and food a lot of people have said it's all very well for the Prince of Wales you know he can afford to do this which I guess is to some extent is true it can be underwritten so we can afford to take some risks but the farm is run as a business it needs to be financially sustainable as well as biologically sustainable so the aim here is to make a profit after we've paid our rent and we do do that they very often have a complete change of attitude because they've got the wrong end of the stick if you know what I mean from reading things or whatever else 120 hours of raw footage 5 years of shooting and privately financed against all odds Bertram Fahad lets us take a look behind the scenes to discover the only form of Agriculture which will secure survival on our planet for future generations everyone who eats and still wants to eat tomorrow should see this film it was always a bit unnerving when you heard about certain products that were withdrawn from the market because they were found to produce cancer in rats or birth defects in rats I had a young family had two young babies at the time and it's often those things that make you start to think a bit more deeply about what you're eating and what's going on in the environment I suppose so the whole the whole thing needs to be seen as a whole the trouble is we've divided it all up into separate compartments so we no longer see the the unified picture and all I be trying to say is that we need to remember that one thing has an effect on something else yeah and his minions will always have a little judge when he's just come back he he's not a manicured Prince he's a dirty Prince in the sense of dirt and soil being part of both his physical being as well as a soul I'm just opening up this wheat plant you can see the ear he's already formed just got beyond the embryonic stage it's funny to think that in a few weeks that little wheat ear made its way all the way up here and out the top and will be growing and then it will flower and then it will start to fill with with starch with carbohydrate all I wanted to do is to heal villains restore lost habitat and again I've battled and battled to training her to understand how important the small family farmer is all around the world the development and protection of a small farmer is crucial but everywhere all around the world they are being driven off the land as we speak if I haven't ended up here what would I've been doing I don't know but there we go you don't know what David is is it he's a remarkable person I'm very very fortunate to have somebody who who is so sympathetic and so believes and in what I want to try and achieve thing is I I'm not the expert he is he's the technical expert so a lot of what he says now is is picked up by others because there are always those who say it's all nonsense but they'll go on saying that I am very full you can feed the world with organic farming have a look
