really don't socialize now you know when they say money don't change you it just multiplies whatever you are you gonna buy someplace to hide now i'm sure most of you guys have heard how kendrick lamar is coming back after a long unexpected five-year hiatus some people had to figure it out the traditional way through academics or something i saw it through kendrick quoting this twitter user's tweet from february saying he's officially retired nonetheless the greatest rapper of all time is back but why did he leave the hiatus began in 2019 after he was officially done touring off his most successful album titled damn and the only source i need for that one is how many units outsold drake's 2017 project more life by no hey i'm just saying drake although there's not a specific answer as to why kendrick decided to distance himself from the spotlight there's a lot to pick apart in his lyrics various interviews and tweets on why he probably decided to do so is there a person you lost who you'd want to tell me about someone who really felt close to you yeah definitely um chad keaton he was like my little brother we grew up in the same community i was actually best friends with his older brother which is incarcerated right now on september 4th 2013 kendrick lamar took to twitter to tweet a photo of him in what seemed to be a close friend captioned rest in heaven little bro watched you become a man you fought bro the city stole your life but not your legacy it turns out the name of the guy in the photo was chad albert lee keaton a 23 year old male who was wounded in a drive-by shooting as he left the home of one of his closest friends on a friday night it happened on the corner of comstock street and parmalee avenue a compton neighborhood known to be plagued by gang violence things happen where you know sometimes the good are in the wrong places and that's exactly what happened what happened to her he got shot [Music] although i believe most people who click this video know exactly who kendrick is and where he came from i think it's important to jog your memory real quick kendrick lamar was born in the late 80s in the city of compton california so he's no stranger to violence and killing matter of fact he said he witnessed his second murder at the age of eight like literally washed it with his own eyes do i have this right you saw your first murder when you were five years old yes sir what happened it was outside my apartment unit when guy was out there serving his narcotics and somebody rolled up with a shotgun blew his chest out we're kids playing in this apartment unit you know riding our bikes or whatnot so immediately it does something to me right then and there to let me know that this is not only um something that you know i'm looking at but it's something that maybe i have to get used to you did what i'm saying rather than becoming a product of his environment kendrick chose the path that led to much success he was first signed to top dog entertainment in 2005 but didn't really start popping off until he dropped a mixtape called overly dedicated in 2010 and caught the attention of dr dre together they helped create good kid matt city and album kendrick premeditated dropping from the very early stages of his career good kid in the mad city that's something that i represent that's something i represent for the whole city of compton i feel that we are good kids in a mad city you know i mean it's just the circumstance that's around us turns into this the evils that the world i mean puts upon the adolescents that's growing up in the city whether it's gang violence of course whether it's uh police brutality whether it's drugs whether it's women you know i mean it all stems from being a kid and it's just the [ __ ] you exposed to y'all i mean i was exposed to it too his plan was to tell the untold story of thousands of people who lived a similar traumatizing life as he did and be an example that anything is possible and here he is in 2013 touring the world off the same album and living a better life than he ever has yet some of the stories he was telling on the same album were being rehearsed over and over not only in the songs but also in real life tour prior to that before that when i went overseas i got to get off stage and almost face the madness and get these calls you feel me like it's real man three of my homeboys that summer time yeah it was murder close ones too not just somebody that i hear about these people i grew up with so this leads us back to the story of chad keaton could this have been the one event that really started to weigh down on kendrick a lot more is revealed on the track called you off to pimp a butterfly leading to one of the most heartbreaking moments on the album where kendrick sets the scene as being overly drunk and trying to escape the pain that death has brought him since he feel like he didn't put much effort in being there for him and instead was on the road having fun touring [Music] in some cases you're losing them yeah they're losing lives my closest friends i probably lost more friends in this past summer than any other summer it bugged kendrick to know that although the album performed really well he got a ton of success off it he still wasn't powerful enough to stop the violence happening in his own city even to some of the closest people to him he even says this himself on you reflecting on how it all started with his little sister having a baby as a teen from my sister to my little cousin other other siblings around me that that's coming up how can i be a voice for all these people around the world and can't reach them like like i want to and they're the closest to me that's a trip that's that's truly a trip to me and uh every everybody go through trials and tribulations and make mistakes but for me personally somebody else's mistake i i tend to fault myself he pulls off although this is as heartbreaking as it is we can't conclude that this is the overall reason kendrick lamar hates being famous it may have been a part of it but i think that kendrick really began having a distaste for the spotlight only one month before the tweet was even made when a kendrick song was released that led kendrick down the path of becoming one of the most controversial rappers in the game rocky drake big sean j electron tyler macmillan i got love for you all but i'm trying to murder you [ __ ] trying to make sure you're good big sean dropped this song out of nowhere to promote his upcoming album hall of fame and this was a hell of a teaser because afterwards both guys featured on the song j electronica and big sean began to beef with kendrick for this verse kendrick will bite you look you couldn't pay kendrick a million dollars kendrick wouldn't tell you kendra could tell you himself he couldn't body me kendrick look kendrick is my son kendrick is my baby kendrick what she said he could be me what did he say name dropping every rapper who was really making noise at the time and saying he was the king of new york as an artist from the west coast probably wasn't the best decision at the time for all that was going on rap music was kendrick's escape it's the one thing it could come back to time after time and smile at how great he's gotten over the years to kendrick it wasn't that big of a deal he was just having fun but to the rest of the game they didn't take it too easy was he's giving people like moments you know like that verse was a moment to talk about um are you listening to it now at this point in time okay and then but it was it was real cool for like you know a couple weeks but like if i asked you for example like how does that verse start let's be honest this is the real reason kendrick stopped using social media because everyone couldn't stop talking about this at the time all the artists mentioned were getting interviewed about it people were disen kendrick left to right he got yelled at by diddy and j cole was there to break it up i mean sheesh it was at the point where kendrick started becoming a demon and seemingly willing to burn any bridge with other successful artists in the industry even ones that he's friends with he was suddenly seen as everyone's enemy kendrick made it clear that he didn't like the energy of this he said it multiple times that it's all love and it was nothing more than a small bite at the competition but that didn't work and people just kept dragging this on specifically where are you at like with the j cole specifically where you're at with drake or so on and so forth i respect the music for sure i respect them as individuals and creators and uh i think what the media tried to do is is it's insane because they take these black you know young brothers and really try to clash it and make bump heads and um that's not right till this day people still compare and debate these two and claim they have an ongoing beef but both drake and kendrick have claimed that they were cool with each other and that it was all fun and games day one kdot fans know for a fact that he's here for a deeper purpose and doing rap beef is cool and all but it's just not what kendrick came to do he wants to rap about what's really going on in the world this is really what led him to making the song hood politics onto peppa butterfly claiming rap beef isn't something he worries about even claiming jay-z weighed in on the situation saying it's funny how one first can [ __ ] up the government day one as you can see in 2013 and 2015 the following years from good kid mad city to fimba butterfly this is really where kendrick started to experience his peak at fame and success but it was also the time the most growth as an artist was made you can have the platinum album but you know when you still feel like you haven't quite found your place in the world it kind of gives a crazy offset when you go inside these places no matter how much money you have no matter how much success when you still feel like you you're not comfortable where's the feeling in that after dropping to peppa butterfly the album seemed to have served kendrick more therapeutically than it did financially kendrick started becoming woke after this like the transition from designer clothes to wearing stuff like this type of woke like doing interviews with rick rubin outside of the sun type awoke you guys get the point but it makes sense that at this stage of kendrick's career 2017 he seemed to have been in a better space than ever mentally and physically he was writing some upbeat bangers like dna and humble his album had rihanna on it ninth wonder was producing some tracks and he was back in demon mode calling out all of his ops on the heart par 4. oh yeah and he was packing out shows left to right and won a pulitzer prize things really seemed to be going good for kendrick and that he was ready to take this freaking game over until he disappeared again for another five years after things got even worse for sure my knees getting weak and my gun might blow breathe as you catch that uh lamar state his views on police brutality with that line in the song quote and we hate the popo want to kill us in the street fosho kg ah please oh i don't like it i got i got [Music]
