hi blender fans are welcome to this new and exciting tutorial how to make a starfish this is a quick and simple tutorial and we'll be making this starfish most starfish have five legs with the can of as many as 50 also did you know if they look alike they'll grow it back let's begin this exciting tutorial first of all what we're going to do is I'm going to actually start a new foul and actually lose this starfish that I've created so no general don't save so what we've got here is the cube we don't need the cube so I'm just gonna get rid of the cure and delete the cube in a minute the music should stop right but quite like this piece of music it's by Chris Hogg Hagen and it's called easy C's mates it's a very nice children right right the mesh what we'll do is we'll set up our screencast so let's just set these up and I'm going to actually such a screen casting and everything so give me two minutes just to sort this out just listen to the music now with life so we've got the screencast keys and also at my logo to the screen there we go first of all to make this object we're gonna add in a mesh and the mesh we're gonna add in is a cylinder alright so we add the cylinder in the cylinder it needs to be just ten sides so the way I did that is I wanted to add cylinder in fact we'll start again and I'll be a bit more descriptive in the way I'm doing this so so what we've got up here is we got object select add object so we go add a mesh and the mesh we'll be adding is right and the cylinder as you can see we got cylinder down here as a default this has 32 sides but we only need 10 so change this to 10 and there we have it so we've got a 10 sided shape and this is gonna make our staff and our starfish so that's what we'll do is we well going to edit mode by pressing the tab key and all we want to do is select the ring outside so up here we've got point select a line select and face select president we're going to actually select face select so select face select and then why did the is press the Alt key down and the left click as it shows in the picture down there and that just highlights the outside edge then we're going to do is select check a deselect and what's that that has done is actually selected every other shape and then I am going to scale this by point to not sorry I did that wrong control-z undo thing if you did it wrong what we need is we need on here we need image individual origins to work so what you've got there is up here next to the global you've got these two little loops stuck together so what we do is put the one with the two dots on it which is called individual and up origins and then we scale that down and as you can see we're scaling it down scaling it down what I did there is press the S key and I'm moving the mouse from left to right to scale this down so I'm going to scale it down until it's quite small and then what I'm going to do is press the a key to select all and I'm going to scale it up in the Z direction why did there was press the S key then I press the Z key the Z key is up and down if you press scale on Y you to do it left and right control-z unders everything and if I wanted to do it in the X direction then you would press so s scale in the X direction and that would make it wider that way so control Z because we want to actually manipulate this shape here the next thing we're going to do is we're going to select these edges again sorry select check a deselect and as you can see we've now selected all those edges because this is on the individual origins here we can now extrude this by say 5 and quickly we've got the actual legs of a starfish and then we scale them down by pressing the S key customer on individual origins scaling them down until we get a starship a star shape I'm just gonna move this up slightly so G and C just move this edge up slightly just to give it a bit thickness there and I'm gonna take the bottom up slightly G + Z just so we get that kind of shape you know so G + Z and we've got the starship so we've now already got something that looks a lot like a starfish but not exactly I'm gonna do now is we're going to take this leg yeah control our press the two key and I'm gonna do the same for each one of these at legs so ctrl R then press 2 and right click will actually make it stick so ctrl R 2 and right click sorry will undo it ctrl R and to left click then right click so try that again ctrl R to left-click there right click control our to left-click and right-click and now we've got the legs overs starfish but we're gonna use this for as point the next thing I'd like to do is I'm gonna split this control ah and I'm gonna split this by four and as you can see we've now got all them going all the way around the sides faffing fast - and money so I'm just control see that again select the edge by selecting a select so I'll select that edge control R and I'll make it three yeah I think three mark me better so and the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna select each leg in turn so I did control R and then I'm gonna type 25 which splits it up 25 times so do that again for excellent control wah 25 then left click then right click again to actually solidify control are 25 left click right click control ah 25 left click right click control ah 25 left click right click and as you can see now we gain more to the shape of a starfish like we had in the actual starting image I'm just gonna actually shrink this down because it's getting in the way a bit alright so we've got a starfish so what we want to now do is put some of the lumps back into it so what I'm gonna do is God to face select select this edge absolutely none it by pressing the mouse Texas forwards and backwards and select that edge there and then and what I'm gonna do is select checkered deselect again as you can see because we actually focused on that one is deselected that that central one so we've now got all the way round face is selected then what I'm going to do is control I'm sorry I'm not gonna do that I'm gonna then extrude plus an e key point - in fact I think that's too many so I'm going to ctrl Z that extra point one and then I'm gonna press the S key then move the the mouse from left to right to actually shrink them down and slowly but surely this is start to look like a starfish I hope you agree now the next thing we're going to do is we're going to select face select again and I'm gonna rule alt press the Alt key and left-click to select all them edges and then I am going to actually this this is where it becomes quietly slightly complicated so select check and deselect and that's like that and then go into actually press the oaktree hold the shift key down then press left click again and then select and check it deselect that's gone slightly wrong because what we should do is be selecting that top line so I'm ctrl Z to undo that control V so shift alt select that top line and then select check it deselect and I've done it run again control Z I will try this again this is not working very well all right so start to go so control so press the Alt key down left click selects that line then select checkered deselect that's better all right select that top line but now I'm pressing the shift key the old and I've selected that line and I'm gonna select check a deselect all I'm doing is keeping down elde down in between so shift I'll select the line and select check it deselect now you just keep doing that so I select that line left click so I'm pressing the shift the old kid is not showing up is it shift alt and left click don't understand why it's not showing up on the actual on the thingy but I am actually pressing ctrl CC I press the shift key the Alt key and then press left click which gets that and select check a deselect you can do this individually if you wanted to select check your deselect and I'll show you the alternative way so check a deselect so what we've got there is is we've got the actual check and deselect points so fo to e extrude point 1 again and then we scale by point 5 that's done that you could do it leg by leg by just pressing Alt + left click select check and deselect and then ei1 sorry see e by point 1 and then scale by point 5 so we're still achieving the same thing the way that I'm doing the ear by doing the shift then alt and then select the line and then select chickadee select I think is quite quicker and I'm just gonna select - deselect it's just I find it a little bit quicker so I check a deselect select select check a deselect I just find it quickly so I shift I'll select it so like check it deselect and then just to finally finish II point one and scale s55 and we gain something that looks a lot like a starfish what I'm gonna do is get a bit of shape so I'm just going to G I'm gonna go onto proportional editing now this is where the magic starts to happen so hit the proportional editing button which is up here select that edge and aide II he proportional editing doesn't appear to be working I don't understand that no I'm just try that I'm doing that again and just so G and C that's why the actual proportional editable the actual circle so small all I'm doing is moving the mouse wheel there and that what that I'll do is it allows you to drag up different areas so I'm just dragging that up slightly just to get a bit of shape then I'm gonna extruder and scale that down ctrl C II scale point 5 and G and C just to move it up slightly out with it by shrinking the wheel I altered the way I'm doing it so as you can see I'm getting a starfish you can't shape but it doesn't look very organic yet it just looks a bit like a machine oh what a machine at thinking actual starfish - e staffy should look like so the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to go under the spanner or the wrench if you're American and I'm going to add a modifier and the modifier I'm going to add is the sub subdivision surface modifier so add the subdivision surface modifier and add smoke shading and as you can see we've got starfish there but unfortunately it looks like I must have actually extruded therefore before so what I'm gonna do is ctrl V this and keep control C in it until I repair it back to the way it was there we are so what I did there I'm added an extra face so extrude C and I'm gonna scale that down extrude Z and scale that down again that should make it better starfish so then again add the modifier again so divide surface by two and that's much better into it as you can see you've got a slight bit of shaping their smooth shading just make you look a bit better but as you can see that looks very much like a starfish and the most of divisions you add the more detail it adds but I think for this two will be enough one might even enough depending now it's simply you want to make your object just making it one means that we've got fourteen thousand faces here and the more you subdivide the more face you have if you make this too big a computer's not powerful if it will crash your machine but let's just leave it at one so looks like starfish but not very real is it so what we go is click on proportional editing again go back into edit mode select a point so at this point it G and all I'm going to do ctrl z select proportional editing G key scale it up slightly and then I you can do he's had the bends to make you starfish look real G I just couldn't move that in a slightly I'll move G and moved that over slightly and G it's entirely up to you how you went starfish to look and if you want the legs to be up in the air are down at the floor Judy what's the I like tentacles now you can just move them to where you want and we'll add a floor in so I see mesh add mesh plane ride a plane in Upsy Daisy I made that part of the actual object so going back into edit mode and X to the late this is tech proportional entity enough add in a mesh plain scale it proportionally I'd change back on again scale it so there we go all I do is pop this into edit mode move up and as you can see we've now got starfish this could be sand or anything like that get better color just to make it show up so all I did there was went up to materials put new material starfish is usually red so I'll make this one red or orangey red and there you have it your very own starfish please subscribe if you like this tutorial and scale it down or change it about however you want you could also even um and animate this by moving it frame by frame to actually make the starfish walk if you wanted to hope you enjoyed this tutorial quick and simple tutorial please subscribe I'll press like on my channel this is blended TC signing off Cheers
